Koncepcja „wolnego rynku idei” i perspektywy jej dalszego rozwoju

Owing to the Internet the concept of a ‘free marketplace of ideas’ is thriving. Although even today it is difficult to decide unanimously whether the Miltonian principle of the self-righting process is a theory reflected in real life, or rather a ‘rhetoric myth’, it is beyond any doubt that the conviction that under the conditions of free exchange of information and opinion truth is able to triumph over falsehood still intrigues people, who feel compelled to verify this conviction over and over again. How much the ideas referred to at the beginning of this text, namely the free marketplace of ideas and self-righting process, have taken possession of the imagination of a contemporary information recipient is demonstrated by the fact that they are echoed both in the academic studies devoted to the issue of freedom of speech and in introductory, journalistic or educational publications. It seems that in the future it will be the Internet that remains one of the main instruments to verify the rightness of the self-righting process. One should not doubt that it will be a never-ending process, as predicted by Milton. One can assume though that the concept of a ‘free marketplace of ideas’ will continue to exert a significant impact on the development of international standards of free speech both in Western culture and elsewhere.Owing to the Internet the concept of a ‘free marketplace of ideas’ is thriving. The most recent presidential election at the time of writing, the term of Aleksander Kwaoeniewski, everyday political life and the recent presidential campaign have demonstrated how important the role of a politician’s wife has become. That a wife may act as the president of a foundation, as an advisor, as a chair of an association, as an activist defending the rights of children and any related activity, is one of the elements of the image of the husband – a politician. When asked whether their decision to get married would have been different if they had known many years ago that their husband would become involved in politics, the answer is „No”.Women are satisfied living with a politician, although they generally admit that this requires sacrifice. When something important is happening, everything else has to be neglected. Then they have to be patient, persistent and wise, because only such an attitude can advantageously influence the political images of their husbands. The most recent presidential election at the time of writing, the term of Aleksander Kwaoeniewski, everyday political life and the recent presidential campaign have demonstrated how important the role of a politician’s wife has become. Rynek jako czynnik ograniczający wolność słowa

The author attempts to consider the relationship between freedom of speech and the principles of the free market in three aspects. Firstly, economic recession reduces the market offer and restricts access to newspapers and magazines. Secondly, the concentration of capital in the media and dropping of prices results in a limited number of titles circulating, thus restricting the amount of opinions and news releases reaching the readers. Thirdly, the dependence of editors on the advertisers makes „the one who pays dictate the terms, i.e. select the information and opinion and present himself in good light”. The opinion is frequently encountered that „freedom of speech is the freedom of the editor as opposed to that of a journalist”, which is mainly voiced by the former. The author attempts to consider the relationship between freedom of speech and the principles of the free market in three aspects. Maskulinizm, radykalna polityka i pożytek z wyobraźni: pragmatyzm a feminizm w ujęciu Richarda Rorty’ego

The author devotes the present paper to Rorty’s statement that pragmatism offers a significantly better support for the feminist movement than any version of metaphysical philosophy. Thus the author is preoccupied with the issue of what tangible advantages feminists might obtain (according to Rorty), if they refer to the rhetoric created by American pragmatism in their disputes with their intellectual opponents and their attempts to alter social reality. However, not all feminists will find the pragmatism promoted by Rorty useful. For example, feminists operating within the framework of the Catholic Church would certainly not be able to use it. The gap between this type of spirituality and the proposals of American philosophers is too wide. What seems particularly valuable in Rorty’s version of feminism (and what constitutes an integral part of its neopragmatism) is a strong emphasis on the role of imagination opposed to analytical reason, and the superiority of the former. The author devotes the present paper to Rorty’s statement that pragmatism offers a significantly better support for the feminist movement than any version of metaphysical philosophy. Droga Austrii do członkostwa w Unii Europejskiej

In the Author’s opinion the case of Austria demonstrates at least two highly significant issues in the context of obtaining membership of the EU. Firstly, even an economically highly developed country (GNP in excess of the average level of the EU member states) as well as a considerable degree of integration with the EU even prior to the accession (EEA member) did not suffice to prevent Austrian society from experiencing negative consequences immediately after the accession. This is strictly related to the other significant phenomenon. A considerable increase of negative approaches towards membership, emerging among Austrian society, to a significant degree resulted from the excessive expectations of the merits which were supposed to be shared by the society following the accession. In the Author’s opinion the case of Austria demonstrates at least two highly significant issues in the context of obtaining membership of the EU. Is Poland open to new religions? The answer to this question is a complex one. From the legal point of view every denomination or religion is guaranteed equality. However, when we consider that 90% of Poles are Roman Catholics (at least in statistics), we should note that Catholicism decidedly prevails and the remaining denominations are far from popular. Reaching back in history to the year 966, the Catholic faith has become a part of Polish culture over the centuries. Irrespective of the schisms the Church has experienced in the West, it has remained rather homogeneous in Poland. Yet its strong position has not hindered the representatives of other denominations in reaching Polish territories and winning over believers. Is Poland open to new religions? The issue of nuclear security will be narrowed down to the realm of energy and environmental protection (that is to obtaining and using nuclear energy, as well as treating it as an alternative to other energy sources, including the harmful ones), and to the selected problems of international law (nuclear objects and facilities, fissionable material, MAEA security measures). Nuclear energy is treated as a cheap energy source and, primarily, an infinite one when compared to the finite resources of crude oil, natural gas and various forms of coal. Producing and using nuclear energy has its advantages and disadvantages. The former involve the protection of air, ozone layer and climate, the latter – a potential for breakdowns and damage. The opponents of nuclear energy pay particular attention to Chernobyl, which in 1986 witnessed the most dramatic breakdown in the atomic industry, both in terms of its ecological and social impactThe issue of nuclear security will be narrowed down to the realm of energy and environmental protection (that is to obtaining and using nuclear energy, as well as treating it as an alternative to other energy sources, including the harmful ones), and to the selected problems of international law (nuclear objects and facilities, fissionable material, MAEA security measures). At present, innovation has become mainstream in creating competitiveness, whether at the level of local governments and enterprises or at the national and European Union levels. Moreover, innovation is believed to be much more than a one-off transfer of research results into the small and medium enterprises sector. Nowadays, innovation is perceived as a peculiar philosophy which concerns everybody, where local government has a particular role to play as an institution to grant financial support in the new financial perspective of 2007–2013. Today, in the process of globalization, margins for products and services, lower gross profit, and the need for revenue growth and cost reduction – innovation is essential to ensure the competitiveness of the region. Innovation is the catalyst for the region’s growth, and supporting it must become a significant task for all levels of regional management, including the scientific world, business support institutions and the whole community. “Europe has a proud tradition of inventing solutions that have improved people’s lives all over the world… innovation is the key to tackling the main challenges we face now”.At present, innovation has become mainstream in creating competitiveness, whether at the level of local governments and enterprises or at the national and European Union levels.
