Prediction on the Trend of Dengue Cases with Decision Support System Using Statistical Formula
An accurate prediction model for dengue incidences months in advance of an impending outbreak could prove useful in enhancing decision-making for health establishments and reducing the morbidity and mortality rate of this tropical disease. Therefore, a prediction model was developed to predict the trend of dengue cases in the future based on historical epidemiology cases of dengue and using the statistical formula of mean+2 Standard Deviation, where mean is the average of all the past cases and standard deviation of all the number of past cases taken into factors for the prediction of the future trend of cases. The prediction model was able to draw alert thresholds using the statistical formula and was also able to predict with an acceptable level of accuracy using the actual data as a benchmark for the predicted value. However, the system cannot predict the anomalies or exceptional cases, rather serving as a guide for Digos City Health Center operatives to create preventive measures for this alarming tropical disease. In the conclusion of this study, using the model developed and taking historical epidemiology data as the basis for the prediction of a future trend could prove as a viable source for enhanced evidence-based decision support for the Digos City Health Center operatives
Code-switching in instruction among language teachers and students and communicative competence of second-year students of UMDC
This study comparatively analyzed the relationship between the code-switching of teachers and students and second-year students\u27 communicative competence. The comparison between teachers and students code-switching and communicative competence of second-year students was carried out through a descriptive correlational method. This study\u27s respondents were those teachers and second-year English major students of UM Digos College officially enrolled in the first term of the first semester of the academic year 2016 – 2017. Based on the statistical results, there is no significant relationship between the code-switching of teachers and students and the second-year students\u27 communicative competence. Moreover, the interpretation shows that the level of code-switching of teachers and students is both high. On the other hand, the communicative competence of the second-year students is interpreted as very low
Distractor analysis of teacher-made multiple-choice test in Math 1B and Math 2B in UM Digos College
This study aimed to perform distractor analysis on teacher made Math 2B MCQ test for the final examination test of UM Digos College. This descriptive study employed to UMDC students who were currently enrolled to MATH 2B course. Based on the findings of the study, the teacher-made test distractors in Math 2B final examination as described in compliance to guidelines, 46% id found to be no error. Moreover, based on the index of effectiveness/discrimination index, more than half of the distractors (53%) formulated are functioning. In the characterization of distractors, 68% is found to identical syntax in the syntactic homogeneity part. In the semantic homogeneity part, particularly in conformity type, 79% is found to be conformed type. Whereas in the named entity type, 69% is found to be identically named entity type. Consequently, most of the students believe that the distractors are homogeneous. In terms of the correct answer, most of it can be found in either choice c or d. The alternatives are free of grammatical errors. However, the alternatives were not logically ordered. Thus, this research recommends that since it was found that 46% of the distractors were not arranged in a logical order, it is recommended that the teachers of UM Digos College, particularly in Mathematics, should make their alternatives of MCQs in a logical order. Secondly, based on the correct options\u27 inventory, 43% of the distributions were on option C, and based on FGD, most of the students believe that the answer is found in either C or D. It is recommended that the teacher should avoid pattern in the correct answer. Since it is important to evaluate and assess distractors\u27 effectiveness, it is recommended that the teachers conduct distractor analysis as part of item analysis not only as compliance to accreditation requirements but as a standard operating procedure. Lastly, for future researchers, it is recommended to conduct the further study using the results presented, and this study must be applied to other subjects and standardized tests in DepEd

The practice and primary function of code-switching among selected interviews of Philippines rational politicians
In political discourses like debate, speeches and hearings, these need a clear communicative relay. Language have also been influenced in terms of their usage and practices. Code-Switching, the alternate use of more than one language in a discourse, is one of the language phenomena where such changes can be traced. This research investigated the occurrences of code-switching in selected previously recorded interviews of the Philippines National Politicians by taking approach in examining the various types, functions and reasons of codeswitching. The data consisted of previously recorded interviews of five (5) currently running politicians. Data was then analyzed based on the integration of Poplack’s (2013) Types of Code- Switching, Appel and Muysken’s (2006) Six Function of Code-Switching, and Malik’s (1994) Ten Reasons for Code-Switching. Findings suggested that code-switching occurs in interviews of politicians mainly to serve referential, expressive and phatic functions. For more substantial results in the future, researchers may consider large numbers of participants to observe the occurrences of code-switching in interviews
Factors influencing students’ membership on fraternities and sororities in UM Digos College
This study aims to determine the level of factors influencing student membership on fraternities and sororities in UM Digos College. The descriptive method was used to establish the significant relationship in the factors influencing student membership in fraternities and sororities in UM Digos College. Descriptive statistics and Pearson (r) were the analysis measures to arrive at the findings and conclusion. As a result, the peer pressure factor that influences the students is high. The curiosity factor that influences the students is high, and the sense of belongingness factor is also high. Lastly, the difference in the factors influencing students\u27 membership in fraternities and sororities when analyzed according to age is not significant, to gender is also not significant, and there is a significant difference according to program
Biodiversity index of corals in the shallow reefs of Brgy. Bitaug, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur
This study aimed to identify the biodiversity index of shallow reef forming corals in Bitaug, Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur in terms of physicochemical parameters of water, taxonomic classification and biodiversity of the observed species in the site. Corals belong to Kingdom Animalia and Phylum Cnidaria which include three classes: Hydrozoa, Schypozoa, and Anthozoa. In this study, the researchers used qualitative and quantitative approach. The species were observed by number as well as the quality of the water. Based on the result using a PAST software, the research team concluded that transect 3 was the transect which had the most diverse corals species found in the three-sampling sites in terms of the number of species, followed by transect two and then transect one. Corals in the shallow reefs of Bitaug, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur were more diverse in the shallow part of the seawater than in the deep seawater. Furthermore, the research team concluded that, these corals were more tolerant to the stored sediments, pH, temperature and chemicals from industrial factories located on the nearby seashore of the sampling site

Rhetorical moves structure employed in the research article abstracts: A genre analysis
Writing in academic genre is the most challenging part of the non-native student writers. Research article abstract have been a growing research in the past two decades. Thus, the aim of the present study was to examine and investigate the rhetorical moves employed in the research article abstracts. This study utilized Bhatia (1993), Santos (1996) and Hyland (2003) models of rhetorical moves of abstract written by the undergraduate students under the Liberal Arts departments of UM Digos College during the year 2017-2014. The results shows that there were 15 move patterns found in the 29 research articles abstracts being examined and none of the 15 move patterns were compatible with Bhatia (1993), Santos (1996) and Hyland (2003) models of rhetorical moves of abstracts. This given the idea that the Liberal Arts department thesis abstracts do not follow or adopt any of the three influential people in the researches of abstracts. Ergo, the findings of the present study have pedagogical implication that the non-native student researchers need to realize the importance of applying any of the three proposed theory of the rhetorical move structure of abstracts by Bhatia (1993), Santos (1996), Hyland (2003) in their abstracts writing since these model’s convey important information that should be available in the research abstracts
