Tales of Homosexual Daughters: Insights and Lessons
This study aimed to explore the experiences of homosexual daughters from the lens of criminology students. It specifically determined their coping mechanisms and insights as homosexual daughters which they can share to the community in general. The study used qualitative-case study using interview guide. Through snowball technique, a total of five (5) students who were identified as homosexual daughters were requested for an interview. Thematic analysis utilizing the Miles and Huberman Framework with three main components: data reduction, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusions was used for data analysis. Results revealed that the homosexual daughters had both positive and negative experiences which are the peer support and verbal discrimination. It was also revealed that they develop a sense of motivation, and seeking advice and support to cope with the challenges they experienced. The general insights of the homosexual daughters include gender mainstreaming at the workplace, gender equality at church, gender sensitivity at school, and self-acceptance
Medical Tourism in Davao City
The aim of this study was to determine the perception of the tourism stakeholders towards medical tourism as well as the factors influencing the development of medical tourism in Davao City. A qualitative research method was adopted to collect data from representatives of Department of Tourism Region XI, Davao Doctors Hospital, Ricardo Limso Medical Center, City Tourism members, Locals, Educators and Medical tourists. The results revealed the in terms of services respondents’ perceived that it is existing and effective. They attest its effectivity through patronizing cosmetic product and appreciating prices of the product. On the other hand, In terms of benefits, respondents believe that medical tourism benefits are indeed helpful. The respondents thought that these benefits are visible especially in the economic growth of the City. In terms of Challenges, the respondents perceived challenges as factor that needs to be considered for it affects medical tourism as a whole. A number of respondents emphasized the lack of promotion as the major challenge in pushing medical tourism in Davao City. In terms of future development, respondents’ perceived future development as something that should be implemented for the betterment of medical tourism in Davao City
Tourism For Visually Impaired
This research sought to develop additional understanding to Tourism for Visually Impaired persons in Davao City through qualitative case study, evaluating the expectation, experience, reason and barriers of participation of a person with visual impairment. This study aims to understand and respond to their needs by focusing on the accessibility of tourism in all aspect. The eight primary respondents of this study were from the Word Opportunity towards Reformation and Development for Person with Disability (WORD – PWD), an organization in Davao City which cater the needs of the visually impaired persons. The result of the in-depth interview showed that the participants are more concerned about unequal treatment of the establishments. Accessibility of attraction sites transportation which was the reason for not involving and participating in tourism activities
Davao Backpackers: A Profile and Motivational-based Segmentation
The purpose of the research was to provide a motivational-based segmentation analysis of one particular tourist group in Davao City, commonly known as \u27backpackers\u27. This research was undertaken due to the lack of understanding and knowledge of this market in Davao City, Philippines, specifically their needs, wants and motivations. Exploratory Factor Analysis was used to identify backpackers’ motivation. Test of differences were then used to determine variations in their motivations. Results revealed that Davao backpackers are motivated by six primary factors: novelty and experience; social/self-development; relaxation-relation; altruistic networking and; attendance to event. While there were no demographic-based differences in backpackers’ motivation, purpose and frequency of travel were found to have influenced Davao backpackers’ motivation. The results of the ANOVA tests also revealed that, based on the six factors, two motivation clusters can be distinguished: social seekers and destination seekers. The aim of this article is to provide a wider understanding of backpacking tourists in Davao and provide useful marketing and promotional strategies for tourism operators and marketers of the backpackers’ market. Findings of this study provide significant implication to tourism planners particularly in terms of giving more attention to the potential value of budget-style tourism, such as backpacking. Study findings also contribute relevant information to the lacking literature on backpacking tourism in Davao City, and in the Philippines as a whole
Narratives of Domestic Violence against Women: A Multiple Case Study
This qualitative-multiple case study was conducted to investigate the lived experiences, coping and insights on domestic violence of women in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. This study employed case study design utilizing In-depth Interview. Five women were interviewed identified through the snowball technique. Using the Miles and Huberman framework in the data analysis, it was revealed that domestic violence as experienced by women having an abusive partner include physical abuse, sexual abuse, verbal and emotional abuse, economic abuse, and grave threat. These abused women cope by giving attention and focus to children, and seeking social support. Further, the emerging themes on their insights in addressing these abuses comprise provision of livelihood program, seminar on women\u27s rights and protection, and counselling and moral recovery program
Performance of the Local Government Units as a function of Internal Control Implementation
Internal control is a broad concept that covers the entire range of procedures, methods, and control established by an organization to improve performance. The objective of this study was to determine the domain of internal control implementation that best predicts the performance of local government units in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, Philippines. The study used a quantitative, non-experimental research design using the correlational technique. A total of 300 respondents were surveyed for this study, of which 50 were employees from different LGU departments and 250 residents of the different barangays in the study locale. Mean, Pearson r, and Regression were used as statistical tools. The result showed that the implementation of internal control and the performance of the local government unit services were high. There was a significant relationship between the implementation of internal control and local government units’ performance. Risk assessment and control activities can significantly influence the performance of local government units, but the control activities was found to be the best predictor
Evaluation of Green Practices Studies In Hospitality Industry
This study was conducted to evaluate the different studies from the University of Mindanao that focused on the idea of Green Practices. Using the comparative methodology of Pickvance, 2005, the results revealed that as the years go by, the awareness of Green movement was slowly spread all over the community especially to Hospitality industry. Different ways were used that helped to spread the awareness conveniently. Some of those was includes the government who conducted seminars, social media advertisements, flyers, etc. Also, it showed that each research met in one point. This was to sustain the implementation of the Green Practices and Solid Waste Management in order in order to protect nature and improve the quality of life. These revelations helped the researchers to conclude that these ways should be kept or enhance since they were relevant in order to spread more awareness to the people about Green Practices
Light and shades: Political life of Vice Mayor Reynaldo S. Hermosisima
This study aimed to scrutinize, learn and mark out the career of Vice Mayor Reynaldo S. Hermosisima as a public servant or government official in Digos City. This includes and highlights his experiences about the personal, professional, and educational aspects, work experiences, challenges, contributions, and accomplishments during his term. Using the qualitative-biographical approach, the researcher was able to profile his biographical sketch. The research used person–to–person or actual interview with the subject for primary data and a series of triangulation, which includes information from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the secondary data. Based on our findings, the political life of Vice Mayor Hermosisima as a public servant for 24 years ad as a human rights lawyer, according to him he undergoes public and personal criticism with regards to his leadership. He struggles to serve as a public servant and a father. But he became more resistant in long years in public service in adjustment to his political will and goal of being a public servant. During his years of service, he successfully implemented numerous bills and ordinances and implemented countless projects and programs for welfare and beneficial to Digos City citizens. Among his projects includes concreting of the farm–to–market roads, drainage, construction of barangay halls, barangay sites, giving livelihood projects, and financial assistance. He also supported scholarship grants and several programs in assistance to Digosoñsos. Moreover, as a part of his profound devotion as a public servant, Digos City was awarded various awards and recognitions to distinguished Digos City as stepping up to its progress. One of the glorious recognitions obtained by the City of Digos is the "Seal of Good Governance" during his service
Client preference of coffee shop in Digos City: A conjoint analysis
The purpose of this study was to determine the clients’ preference of coffee shops in Digos City and to determine the relative importance of the following attributes in determining the client preference of coffee shops in Digos City – location, price, and ambiance. It also aimed to determine the aggregate utility model of clients’ preference for a coffee shop in Digos City and, lastly, to determine the preferable combination of attributes of a coffee shop. Results revealed that most of the respondents were female, ages from 15 to 25 years old, single, college graduate, and employed. The coffee shop\u27s location is the most important attribute, followed by the ambiance, and the least important is the price. Moreover, the preferable location for a coffee shop is along the highway. The preferable ambiance for a coffee shop is a regular coffee shop with music. Lastly, the preferable price for a coffee in a coffee shop is within the usual price. Using the conjoint analysis, it was revealed that the combination of attribute levels for a coffee shop that has the highest preference is Card ID 10, which is a coffee shop located along the highway, a regular coffee shop with a music and has the price that is within the usual price. And the least preferred combination of attributes is Card ID 5, a coffee shop in the mall, a themed coffee shop with music, and a price that was higher than the usual price

This study aims to develop and implement a system that can help the students and faculty search journals easily that would help them for research purposes and reference. The system is online research that can be accessed using the web and through a mobile application. The "UMDC M-Journal" is a study that focuses on catering to the UMDC Office\u27s need about its manually operated journal. The proposed system can make the student research available online and in a mobile application while providing an area for the students to view researchers for their research purposes. The students will access the website, download the mobile application, view the student research they need for their study most promptly and innovatively. The research and publication office coordinator will be the admin and the one in charge of monitoring the system
