Krwawa karuzela (Władimir Zazubrin, „Drzazga”)
This article presents a comparative analysis of Vladimir Zazubrin’s story titled The Splinter (1923) and its contemporary screen adaptation, i.e. Alexandr Rogozhkin’s film The Chekist (1992), in the context of the Russian nation’s tragedy during the formation of a new socio-political system. Just as Zazubrin text is a peculiar testimony to a certain epoch, Rogozhkin’s film (if one also takes into account the date of its premiere) is a picture that warns contemporary people so as to prevent them from repeating their predecessors’ mistakes
This article presents an attempt to specify the categories of parody and tragedy in the novel The Slynx which was written by Tatyana Tolstaya. Since the novel is a postmodern work, the presence of parody seems to be obvious. However, the category of tragedy in a work of this type is a curious novelty, which is analyzed by the author of this article. This article presents an attempt to specify the categories of parody and tragedy in the novel The Slynx which was written by Tatyana Tolstaya.
This article investigates an important issue, i.e. the specifics of teaching the analysis of a text which is the product of non-native speakers’ speech activity. A text is treated as an object of a complex nature, and special attention is given to its fundamental linguistic and psycholinguistic characteristics. The proposed method for teaching text analysis and construction is based on a psycholinguistic approach toward the problem of constructing oral and written texts
This paper is devoted to the problem of replacing one Russian cultural background anthroponym that is used in Polish translations with a cultural-background element that is associated with a cultural circle other than the source and target cultures. A cognitive approach to the analyzed example allows one to understand the possibility of cultural-background’s conversion and explain translators’ individual choices
Language is the result of the derivation process that takes place at all its levels, including spelling, punctuation and type subsystems. The stereotypes that are deeply rooted in the linguistic consciousness cause the potential possibilities of language to come into being based on apperception, i.e. the associative comprehension of language facts, both those long-established ones and those that have only recently manifested themselves in language forms

Generalization does not only catch the interest of philosophers, logicians and psychologists but also that of linguists. This is mainly because generalization, which results from human intellectual activity, is reflected in language and therefore also in texts that are created by human beings. Aphorisms are by nature adjusted to expressing generalized information and are considered the most widespread form of expressing the so-called generic language register, as defined by G.A. Zolotova. The main criteria for assigning a given text to this register are a generalized subject and a timeless predicate. By taking into account the above criteria for assigning texts to this register, sentence analysis reveals the most essential features of aphoristic generalizations, which can be shown on the subject-predicate-object axis, including a qualitative, quantitative and space-time description. Bearing in mind the most important structural and semantic characteristics of aphorisms, one may arrive at the conclusion that they reflect features that are typical of sentences with the so-called generalized referential status
This article is devoted to the theme of a portrait that “comes to life” in Russian classical and contemporary literature. A portrait that “comes to life” actualizes the concept of boundaries between real and unreal space. This motif is particularly popular in Gothic and Romantic literature. The article deals with the Russian version of the mystic portrait (based on the example of N.V. Gogol’s story The Portrait and Yuri Buida’s novel Boris and Gleb). In Gogol’s story a “lifelike” portrait of a moneylender is a symbol of guilt and catharsis as well as the chaos and stability of the nation’s existence. Buida creates a postmodern conception of Russian history, which is reflected in an icon that is endowed with infernal pseudo-life
Turysta w poszukiwaniu domu: tożsamość ponowoczesna w „Encyklopedii duszy rosyjskiej” Wiktora Jerofiejewa
This article investigates the issue of postmodern identity in Victor Erofeev’s Encyclopaedia of the Russian Soul with reference to Zygmunt Bauman’s thoughts on liquid modernity. The narrator of the novel can be seen as a tourist in search of a home as his attempts to define his individual identity are deeply connected with the need to find the Russian Idea
