Get PDFCultural connotation is a manifestation of culture in the semantic content of phraseological units. There is no direct correlation between culture and language because the presupposition (previously known immense knowledge) always takes its place between them and serves as the key for the interpretation of both. It is impossible to comment on the cultural content of phraseological units not knowing their presuppositional base. That is why the cultural commentary of phraseological units is nothing else but methodical disclosure of their presuppositional aspects which are the true codes of culture and include in themselves meanings and senses connected with mythology, legends, rites and rituals, symbols, stereotypes, traditions, habits and so on.Cultural connotation is a manifestation of culture in the semantic content of phraseological units. Get PDFIn present-day Russian we can very often observe the alteration of the root vowels in grammatical forms of the words and derivatives. This phenomenon was much more widely spread in the earlier periods of the Russian language. This vowel alteration wasn’t caused by any phonetic changes in Old Russian being a spontaneous process inherited from the pre-written period of language development. Thus the alteration іУн frequently found in medieval texts (cp. съм\u27кр/съмир, тФш/тиш) goes back to Indo-European *e/*i and plays the sense differentiating role. These words had retained the phonetic differences till the decay of the reduced vowels. The root vowels began to get mixed in the 13-th century. Get PDFThe article is devoted to semantic interpretation of characteristic motifs in the collection of Joseph Brodsky’s poetry New Stanzas to Augusta (Новые стансы к Августе). Deep analysis of recurring poetic image, such as ghost, the motif of light and shadow, and most of all the motif of time, reveals the complicated web of interrelations and the evolution of “common places”. The article is concerned with the presentday Russian ergonyms. First of all, the attempt at classification of the proper names of Moscow realty services is taken. The most important aspects of the analysis, that may later serve also for comparative purposes, are structural and connotative ones.
