Archaeological rescue excavations in Seget Donji
U sklopu pripremnih radova za uređenje dijela obale istočno od marine Baotić u naselju Segetu Donjem, Sveučilište u Zadru, Odjel za arheologiju i tvrtka Stratum d. o. o. proveli su zaštitna arheološka istraživanja s ciljem utvrđivanja postojanja eventualnih arheoloških ostataka na spomenutom području. Arheološka istraživanja na kopnu otkrila su tragove nasipavanju cjelokupnog prostora zemljom i amorfnim kamenjem od novog vijeka do recentnih razdoblja, a podvodnim istraživanjima otkriveni su i tragovi obalne linije iz vremena antike, kao i ostatci antičkog pristaništa izgrađeno od 1. do 3. stoljeća. U stoljećima koja su uslijedila, do današnjih dana, podizanje morske razine preplavilo je antičku obalu, te se ona danas nalazi oko 30 metara udaljena od današnje obale.Within the preparatory works for the development of the part of the coast east of the Baotić marina in Seget Donji, the University of Zadar, the Department of Archeology and the Stratum d. o. o. company carried out archaeological rescue excavations with the aim of determining the presence of possible archaeological remains in the mentioned area. Archaeological field research revealed traces of filling the entire area with earth and amorphous stones from the post-medieval to recent periods, and underwater research revealed traces of the coastal line from the Roman period, as well as the remains of an ancient quay built from the 1st to the 3rd century. In the centuries that followed, until the present day, the rise of the sea level flooded the ancient coast, and today it is located about 30 meters away from the current coast
Research of a 1st-century BC shipwreck off Cape Letavica on the island of Pag
Mjesto potonuća antičkog broda kod rta Letavice nedaleko od Šimuna na otoku Pagu pronašao je tijekom turističkog ronjenja 2018. godine Vedran Dorušić, vlasnik Ronilačkog centra Foka, smještenog u Kampu Šimuni. Riječ je o oko 400 vinskih amfora tipa Lamboglia 2 iz 1. st. pr. Kr., koje leže na padini morskog dna, ocrtavajući oblik potonulog broda. 2022. provedena je četvrta istraživačka kampanja na lokalitetu. Pristupilo se ponovnom čišćenju sjeveroistočnog kraja nalazišta, kako bi se u potpunosti očistile i dokumentirale dvije prije otkrivene olovne prečke antičkih sidara. Jedna sonda postavljena je nad gornji rub sjeveroistočnog dijela nalazišta, kako bi se provjerilo postoje li pod sedimentom očuvani dijelovi drvene brodske konstrukcije. Druga sonda postavljena je pod donji rub jugozapadnog dijela nalazišta, na kojem se pretpostavljalo postojanje brodske kuhinje. U objema sondama potvrđeni su pretpostavljeni nalazi.The site of sinking of the ancient ship near Cape Letavica, not far from Šimuni on the island of Pag, was found during a tourist diving trip in 2018 by Vedran Dorušić, owner of the Foka Diving Center, located in Camping Village Šimuni. The site comprises about 400 wine amphorae of the Lamboglia 2 type dating to the 1st century BC which lie on the slope of the seabed, outlining the shape of a sunken ship. In 2022, the fourth research campaign was carried out. The excavation took place in three different sectors. The north-eastern end of the site was recleaned, in order to completely clean and document the two previously discovered lead stocks of Roman anchors. One trench was placed over the upper edge of the northeastern part of the site, in order to check whether there are preserved parts of the wooden ship structure under the sediment. The second trench was placed under the lower edge of the southwestern part of the site, where the ship\u27s galley was assumed to be. The assumed finds were confirmed in both trenches
Archaeological trial excavations in the basement of Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević Elementary School in Senj
Tijekom veljače 2023. godine na lokalitetu Štela u Senju, u podrumskim prostorijama Osnovne škole Silvija Strahimira Kranjčevića provedeno je probno arheološko istraživanje. Istraživanje se sastojalo od dokumentiranja antičke vodospreme SB2 otkrivene tijekom izgradnje osnovne škole 1972. godine te probnog iskopavanja provedenog na dijelu poda vodospreme. Osnovni cilj ovog istraživanja bio je dokumentirati vodospremu suvremenijim dokumentacijskim tehnikama te probno sondirati pod vodospreme kako bi se utvrdila tehnika te kronološki okvir izgradnje. Istraživanjem je ustanovljeno postojanje najmanje dviju faza vodospreme.During February 2023, archaeological trial excavations were conducted at the Štela site in Senj, in the basement of Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević Elementary School. The excavation consisted of documenting the Roman-erawater reservoir SB2 discovered during the construction of the elementary school in 1972, and trial excavation carried out on part of the floor of the water reservoir. The main goal of this research was to document the water reservoir using more modern documentation techniques and to open a trial trench under the water reservoir in order to determine the technique and the chronological framework of the construction. Research of the third Roman ship at Trstenik in Kaštel Sućurac
Tijekom 2023. godine započelo je sustavno istraživanje broda Trstenik 3, a na brodu Trstenik 2 provedeno je uzorkovanje drvene građe od koje je bila izrađena brodska konstrukcija. Brod Trstenik 3 u cijelosti je očišćen od kamenja i sedimenta, ali je fino čišćenje potrebno provesti tijekom sljedeće istraživačke kampanje. Sveukupna dužina broda iznosi oko 11 m, a najveća širina oko 3,5 m. Očuvana su 34 rebra, sastavljena od rebrenica ili polurebrenica i rebrenih nastavaka. Usporedno s istraživanjem broda Trstenik 3, ponovno su otkriveni ostatci broda Trstenik 2, s ciljem sustavnog uzorkovanja drvene građe od koje je brod bio izgrađen. Po završetku posla brod je dugoročno zaštićen in situ.In 2023, systematic research of the ship Trstenik 3 began. Sampling of the wood used for the ship structure was carried out on the ship Trstenik 2. The ship Trstenik 3 has been completely cleaned of stones and sediment, but fine cleaning needs to be carried out during the next research campaign. The overall length of the ship is about 11 m, and the greatest width is about 3.5 m. Thirty-four frames have been preserved, consisting of floor timbers or half frames and futtocks. Simultaneously with the research of the ship Trstenik 3, the remains of the ship Trstenik 2 were uncovered, with the aim of systematic sampling of the wood of which the ship was built. Brodolom kod rta Letavice za sada je jedino odlično očuvano nalazište u hrvatskom podmorju, nezaštićeno željeznim kavezom, na kojem se redovito provode turistička ronjenja, ali i arheološka istraživanja u kojima sudjeluju svi zainteresirani ronioci. Tijekom istraživačke kampanje 2023. podmorski iskop nastavljen je od jugozapadnog dijela broda u smjeru njegova središnjeg dijela. Izvađeno je sveukupno trideset i šest cjelovitih ili oštećenih keramičkih posuda, a u iskopu je pronađeno i dvadeset diskoidnih keramičkih čepova amfora. U krajnjem južnom dijelu iskopa pojavilo se još čitavih amfora pa će tijekom sljedeće godine biti potrebno nastaviti istraživanje u smjeru juga i istoka.The shipwreck off Cape Letavica is currently the only well-preserved underwater site in the Croatian waters not protected by an iron cage, where tourist diving is regularly carried out, as well as archaeological research in which all interested divers participate. During the 2023 research campaign, the underwater excavation continued from the southwestern part of the ship in the direction of its central part. A total of thirty-six complete or damaged ceramic vessels were taken out, and twenty discoid ceramic amphora stoppers were also found in the excavation. In the southernmost part of the excavation area, several more complete amphorae were found, so during the next year it will be necessary to continue the research in the direction of the south and east
Wildfire Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping Using Remote Sensing, GIS and Weighted Overlay Method in the Eastern Aures in Khenchela, Algeria
Wildfires are one of the natural disasters that cause harmful environmental and economic losses and pose a threat to ecosystems around the world. Consequently, measures must be carefully developed to predict their occurrence and mitigate their damage. This study aims to map the vulnerability to forest fires in the eastern Aures region of Algeria, which is exposed to frequent fires, by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). In this respect, a geodatabase has been created, with 12 criteria influencing identifying areas of vulnerability to forest fires and grouping them into four main categories (forest characteristics, human factors, relief, and climate). In this context, the Weighted Overlay (WOA) technique was used, as this technique relies on calculating the numerical weights for each factor through the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and then the Forest Fire Vulnerability Index (FFVI) was derived. Through overlaying criterion, raster layers for each criterion and the results are represented in a vulnerability map. The vulnerability map shows very high, high, medium, low, and very low classes. High and very high vulnerabilities occupy 31.54% of the total studied surface. Moreover, the burned areas in the study area for 2021 were determined using Senti-nel-2 satellite images and calculating the Natural Burning Ratio (NBR) to assess the FFVI. We performed a spatial overlay between the NBR and the FFVI to validate the results. This overlay was translated into the ROC curve (receiver operating characteristic curve) using GIS software. The precision coefficient (AUC) was determined to be 0.778, indicating that the weighted overlay technique is effective. Therefore, it indicates that the WOA technique is effective and will help decision-makers improve emergency management and forest protection to minimize damage
Mental Health and Life Satisfaction in Mothers of Prematurely Born Children
Preuranjeni porod, tj. rođenje prije 37. tjedna trudnoće, sve je veći zdravstveni problem suvremenog društva. Prijevremeno rođena djeca imaju veći rizik za pojavu dugoročnih neurorazvojnih i medicinskih problema (zbog svoje nezrelosti pri rođenju) zbog čega se njihovi roditelji suočavaju s različitim izazovima. Istraživanja pokazuju da majke prijevremeno rođene djece osjećaju izraženiji stres, anksioznost i depresivnost u odnosu na majke terminske djece. Glavni cilj provedenog istraživanja bio je utvrditi doprinos nekih sociodemografskih karakteristika majke (dob i razina obrazovanja majke, subjektivna procjena materijalnog i zdravstvenog statusa) te socijalne podrške (obitelji i prijatelja) objašnjenju pojedinih aspekata mentalnog zdravlja (depresivnost, anksioznost i stres) i zadovoljstva životom kod majki prijevremeno rođene djece. U istraživanju su sudjelovale majke prijevremeno rođene djece (N = 383) u prosječnoj dobi od 33 godine. Rezultati su pokazali da dob majke nije značajan korelat mentalnog zdravlja i zadovoljstva životom. Dodatno, nalazi pokazuju da majke koje imaju višu i/ili visoku stručnu spremu, te koje procjenjuju svoje zdravstveno stanje boljim imaju manje simptoma depresivnosti, anksioznosti i stresa. Što se tiče podrške, rezultati pokazuju da je podrška obitelji i prijatelja značajan i negativan prediktor mentalnog zdravlja. Kada je je riječ o zadovoljstvu životom, majke koje procjenjuju svoj materijalni i zdravstveni status boljim zadovoljnije su svojim životom. Također, veća percipirana podrška obitelji i prijatelja značajan je i pozitivan prediktor zadovoljstva životom. Sociodemografski čimbenici i socijalna podrška obitelji i prijatelja zajedno objašnjavaju oko 41 % varijance zadovoljstva životom, 29 % varijance depresivnosti, 21 % varijance anksioznosti te 18 % varijance stresa kod majki prijevremeno rođene djece.Premature birth, defined as delivery before the 37th week of gestation, is an increasing health problem in modern society. Prematurely born children are at a higher risk for long-term neurodevelopmental and medical issues due to their immaturity at birth, which presents various challenges for their parents. Research shows that mothers of prematurely born children experience higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression compared to mothers of full-term children. The main aim of this study was to determine the contribution of certain sociodemographic characteristics of the mother (mother’s age and education level, subjective assessment of material and health status) and social support (from family and friends) in explaining specific aspects of mental health (depression, anxiety, and stress) and life satisfaction among mothers of prematurely born children. The study involved 383 mothers of prematurely born children, with an average age of 33 years. The results showed that the mother’s age is not a significant correlate of mental health and life satisfaction. Additionally, the findings indicate that mothers with higher education levels and those who assess their health status as better have fewer symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Regarding support, the results show that support from family and friends is a significant and negative predictor of mental health. In terms of life satisfaction, mothers who assess their material and health status as better are more satisfied with their lives. Furthermore, greater perceived support from family and friends is a significant and positive predictor of life satisfaction. Sociodemographic factors and social support from family and friends together explain about 41% of the variance in life satisfaction, 29% of the variance in depression, 21% of the variance in anxiety, and 18% of the variance in stress among mothers of prematurely born children
Lepuri kod Benkovca: od starokršćanske do predromaničke skulpture
The book Lepuri near Benkovac by Ivan Josipović focuses on one of the largest pre-Romanesque sites discovered in Dalmatia after World War II. The author has carried out a stylistic-morphological analysis and established analogies with previously identified stonemasonry workshops of the 9th century, documenting and cataloguing a significant number of early Christian and pre-Romanesque fragments of architectural decoration and liturgical installation. Such an extensive body of documented fragments found near the church of St Martin in Lepuri brings new knowledge about Croatian pre-Romanesque sculpture, the activity of 9th-century stonemasonry workshops, as well as their historical and social context and the events that occurred in that area from prehistory to the present day.Knjiga Lepuri kod Benkovca autora Ivana Josipovića obrađuje jedan od najvećih predromaničkih lokaliteta otkrivenih u Dalmaciji nakon završetka Drugog svjetskog rata. Detaljnom stilsko-morfološkom analizom i uspostavom analogija s do sada identificiranim klesarskim radionicama 9. stoljeća, obrađen je i katalogiziran znatan broj starokršćanskih i predromaničkih ulomaka arhitektonske dekoracije i liturgijskih instalacija. Ovako opširna obrada ulomaka pronađenih kod crkve Sv. Martina u Lepurima donosi nove spoznaje o hrvatskoj predromaničkoj skulpturi, radu klesarskih radionica tijekom 9. stoljeća, ali i o povijesno-društvenom kontekstu i događanjima na tom prostoru od prapovijesti do danas
Inclusive user experience design for the elderly
Cilj. U radu se analizira oblikovanje korisničkog sučelja digitalnog proizvoda s aspekta uključivog dizajna i korisničkog iskustva namijenjenog osobama starije životne dobi (65+ godina).
Metodologija. Istraživanje je provedeno od 1. do 13. kolovoza 2023. godine koristeći online anketni upitnik među skupinom ljudi starije životne dobi objavljen na društvenim mrežama.
Rezultati. Istraživanje je pokazalo kako se osobe starije životne dobi u velikoj mjeri služe mobilnim uređajima u svrhu pregledavanja sadržaja na društvenim mrežama, praćenja vijesti i komunikacije. Ispitanici imaju dobru razinu samopouzdanja pri interakciji na korisničkim sučeljima, a neki od problema koje su naveli pri korištenju digitalnih usluga i proizvoda bili su nedovoljno istaknuti elementi na sučelju, nemogućnost prilagodbe elemenata tipografije, slab kontrast boje i dr. Pomagala i pomoćne tehnologije koje ispitanici koriste pri interakciji u mrežnom okruženju jesu glasovne naredbe i povećalo za zaslon. Ispitanicima je najviše potrebna pomoć pri registraciji i objavljivanju slikovnih sadržaja na društvenim mrežama (Facebook), pri prvom posjetu mrežnoj stranici, slanju poruka, nemogućnosti navigacije na stranici, instaliranju novih aplikacija, upotrebi stranih jezika, uključivanju GPS-a ili internetskom bankarstvu.
Ograničenja. Ispitanici, sudionici u istraživanju, uglavnom su iz Osječko-baranjske županije, pa nisu reprezentativan uzorak na razini RH.
Praktična primjena. Teorijske spoznaje i rezultati provedenog istraživanja doprinose boljem razumijevanju komponenti uključivog dizajna korisničkih sučelja, osobito za specifične grupe korisnika.
Društveni značaj. Rad doprinosi povećanju svijesti o važnosti prilagodbe digitalnih proizvoda i usluga korisnicima, napose osobama starije životne dobi.
Originalnost. Rad donosi rezultate jednog od rijetkih istraživanja o uključivom dizajnu među osobama starije životne dobi i doprinosi povećanju svijesti o potrebi inkluzije u virtualnom okruženju.Purpose. The paper analyzes the inclusive UI/UX design in the virtual environment for elderly people, those above 65 years old.
Approach/methodology/design. The research was conducted from August 1 to 13, 2023, using an online questionnaire shared with a group of elderly people on social media.
Findings. The research has shown that elderly people use mobile devices extensively to browse content on social media, read and follow news portals, and communicate. The respondents have exhibited a good level of self-confidence when interacting with user interfaces. However, they cited several issues with digital services and products, such as insufficiently highlighted elements on the user interface, inability to adjust typography elements, poor colour contrast, etc. The aids and assistive technologies the respondents use when interacting in a virtual environment are voice commands and a screen magnifier. The respondents indicated needing help when using social media (Facebook), visiting a website for the first time, sending a message, navigating websites, installing new applications, turning on GPS, or Internet banking.
Research limitations/implications. The respondents, participants in the research, are mostly from Osijek-Baranja County, so they are not a representative sample of the elderly people in the Republic of Croatia.
Practical implications. Theoretical knowledge and the results of the conducted research contribute to a better understanding of the components of inclusive design of user interfaces, especially for specific groups of users.
Social implications. This paper contributes to increasing awareness of the importance of adapting digital products and services to users, especially the elderly.
Originality/value. The study presents the results of one of the rare pieces of research on inclusive design among elderly people. The paper raises awareness of the much-needed inclusion of elderly people in the virtual environment
