Data retrieval, data cleaning and data merging: creating a database for bibliometric analyses
Introduction: Bibliometric analyses have become fairly frequent in today\u27s science (Donthu et al., 2021; Klarin, 2024; Öztürk et al., 2024). They help map out research areas and evaluate the quality of scientific research. Most bibliometric analyses today gather their data from Web of Science or Scopus. Yet, the methodology sections on obtaining that data often leave us wanting, especially in the few cases where datasets from both databases were merged (Echchakoui, 2020).
The aim of our research was to create a comprehensive database of all publications by Croatian clinicians, regardless of the research area, so we could map their areas of interest during the period 2005-2022, as well as study potential effects of Croatia’s European Union (EU) membership. Our focus on publications by clinicians rather than publications in clinical medicine led us to create a more complex data retrieval strategy, using affiliations instead of research areas
Analysis of anthropogenic impact on morphological changes of beaches in Podgora (Central Adriatic, Croatia)
Coastal areas are subject to strong geomorphological changes, making beaches among the most vulnerable coastal landforms. Due to increasing pressure from tourism and urbanisation, the stability of beaches is often affected by anthropogenic interventions including sediment nourishment and the construction of coastal structures. This paper analyses the long-term morphological changes (over the last 72 years) on three beaches in the Podgora area: Minerva, Plišivac, and Frara, with the aim of quantifying the impact of anthropogenic activities on shoreline dynamics and beach area. The methods used include the analysis of archival aerial photographs and satellite images (1951–2023), as well as drone images from 2022 and 2023. The images were processed and analysed using ArcGIS Pro software. The results show that the anthropogenically reshaped beaches (Minerva and Plišivac) are prone to significant surface fluctuations and shoreline shifts, while the natural Frara beach has more stable morphodynamics. Plišivac and Minerva expanded through nourishment interventions, which periodically increased their surface area by about 1,500 m² and 3,000 m², respectively, but at the same time required continuous maintenance due to pronounced erosion processes. The analysis reveals that anthropogenic interventions can have counterproductive effects by increasing sediment instability and the need for frequent care. Sustainable coastal management should consider detailed geomorphological analyses to reduce the need for repeated interventions and ensure the long-term preservation of beaches
Senj – Alej
Archaeological supervision and excavation were carried out during the construction of a residential building in Senj in the Alej area on cadastral plot 802/1 of the Senj land registry. On that occasion, the remains of a church-monastery complex with a cemetery were found, which was discovered and partially investigated in 2021. The site was not explored in its entirety, but only to the depth that would be devastated by construction works. The building whose remains were found during these excavations was demolished in the 16th century, when Ivan Lenković had all the buildings outside the walls of Senj demolished so that they would not serve as a fortress for the Turks in the immediate vicinity of the town. A cemetery was also found in the investigation, and five graves were explored. In the 18th or 19th century, a building with a square floor plan with two buttresses on the inside was built in this area, which functioned for a very short time. After that, the terrain was leveled, large amounts of soil were filled in, and the space acquired its current appearance
Archaeological research at the site of Šopot – Crkvina in 2024
In 2024, archaeological research continued at the Crkvina site in Šopot, near Benkovac. During this year\u27s campaign, conducted by the Benkovac Heritage Museum in cooperation with the Department of Archaeology of the University of Zadar, research continued on the graves in the area west of the church. This is a multi-layered cemetery with different types of graves, from burials in simple earthen pits to graves lined with stone slabs and amorphous stones. In addition to other graves, a stone structure representing a smaller burial plot was found and explored at the site, within which two graves with stone lining were found, placed one above the other, and four more similar structures were discovered that still need to be explored

Brgulje in the Context of Croatian Glagolitic Heritage
The paper investigates the valuable and unique cultural phenomenon, the custom of brgulje, which witnesses the role of overlapping of Croatian Glagolitic Heritage and local traditional culture. First, it explores the etymology of the word brgulje, that is, of the verb briježiti with confirmations and meanings in Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts and dictionaries of local dialects. It has been concluded that brgulja is a Croatian folk word of Proto-Slavic origin, deverbative of the verb brijeći, namely of the root -brêg-, contrary to some previous assumptions that it is a lexeme of Romanic origin. Furthermore, the paper presents the area of occurrence of the word brgulja, that is, the folk customs which relate to this feast, as well as the confirmation of the word in Croatian toponymy and in writers from the Renaissance to the 19th century. It states the facts connected with the celebration of brgulje in the Dalmatian Hinterland (Croat. Dalmatinska zagora) and specific characteristics related to this custom in certain places. This paper is a contribution to the knowledge of Glagolitic tradition, as well as to the knowledge of the history of Croatian Glagolitic Heritage and its connection with the Proto- Slavic, Slavonic, and Church Slavonic language.
Overview of Physical Climate Risks and Their Impact on the Economy and Financial System of Croatia
This paper employs an interdisciplinary approach, merging climatology with economic and financial analysis, to deepen understanding of how climate change affects the economy and financial system of Croatia. Using geospatial analysis of data from the IPCC and Copernicus programmes, we have identifed regions within Croatia variably exposed to climate risks, enabling more precise risk assessments for banks and financial institutions. The work also contributes to the theoretical understanding of the relationships between climate change and macroeconomic variables and provides a framework for analysing the long-term economic effects of climate change. The research results can serve as a basis for developing adaptation and mitigation strategies to climate risks at the national level. Specifically, this paper also serves as a data source for formulating policies aimed at reducing the economy’s vulnerability to climate change
Ključni faktori za razvoj održivog vinskog turizma u Zapadnohercegovačkom kantonu
This study aims to provide a situational analysis of the current development of wine tourism in the West Herzegovina Canton, especially highlighting key factors for developing sustainable wine tourism as perceived by winery owners and/or managers. Scientific and professional literature, online sources, and empirical research using the e-Delphi technique were utilised to investigate the topic. In addition to quantitative data analysis, the results were analysed and explained using the PEST matrix. Low interest among public policy stakeholders in its development was identified as the most problematic issue, while the quality of wine was recognised as the most important opportunity. Taking into account all the issues and opportunities, and considering the broader context of the West Herzegovina Canton\u27s development, key factors for developing sustainable wine tourism include: increasing the interest of public policy stakeholders and investments in wine tourism development; implementing comprehensive marketing strategies for the promotion of wine tourism and its placement in the tourist market; encouraging cooperation among all stakeholders, improving communication, and fostering synergy; educating winemakers and other stakeholders directly involved in wine tourism; enhancing ecological wine production and wine quality; expanding capacity and modernising existing wineries; promoting wine tourism and improving the region\u27s image; developing other specialised forms of tourism; advocating for supportive public policies and removing administrative obstacles; and managing the sustainable development of wine tourism. The research limitations included the absence of the Vineyard and Wine Register, the lack of operational tourist boards in three out of four municipalities in the West Herzegovina Canton, and issues with participant engagement during the empirical research. Future research recommendations include verifying the factors listed in the study\u27s limitations and examining the structure of wine tourism at the time, identifying weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, and threats. New empirical studies could uncover additional factors crucial for wine tourism development in the West Herzegovina Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Preporuke za buduća istraživanja uključuju provjeru faktora navedenih u ograničenjima studije i ispitivanje strukture vinskog turizma u to vrijeme, identificiranje slabosti, snaga, prilika i prijetnji.
