Conversion of Historical objects from The Aspect of Project Management using the Example of the Murković Mill in Gospić

    No full text
Within the framework of the profession of project management, this paper points to the existing potential for the conversion of an individual historical object among the many that the republic of Croatia possesses. The research conducted, based on methods and tools applicable in project management, has proven that the revitalization of objects is possible, primarily due to resolved ownership relations. Many architectural objects that once had great significance in the past are today mostly not recognized by the general public because they do not belong to the tourist and culturally exploited heritage. The research focuses on the Murković Mill in the city of Gospić, whose conversion would create a new socially and culturally recognized space with a museum-gallery function. The paper attempts to touch on the first phase, namely the definition of the project and its goals, through a conceptual design solution. The potentials that could result in success in the Lika region itself and the city of Gospić are emphasized. From a project management perspective, this project would be recognizable as a tourism phenomenon in the republic of Croatia, through which younger generations would be introduced and tourism workers would be educated

Is Style “Only Human” Today? Style in AI Poems about a Cloud and Death

    No full text
This paper explores the style of Artificial Intelligence (AI) songs about a cloud and death generated by the Microsoft Copilot in collaboration with the author of the article, with the fundamental purpose of examining the stylistic reaches in AI songs sui generis and compared to human samples, in order to determine the meaning and potential of collaboration with AI in writing poetry. The Introduction presents the context of research into the topic of AI poetry, which points to the limitations and development of the field. In two chapters, a stylistic analysis was conducted according to the postulates of traditional stylistics, literary stylistics, and stylistics of discourse of four generated poems about a cloud and four about death. Patterns are the poems “Cloud” by D. Cesarić and “Death” by A. B. Šimić. The analysis of the generated poems examined primarily quotes, paraphrases, and other stylistic figures, in order to determine the characteristics of poetic discourse and the profile of intertextuality between the generated poem and the pattern. The result of the analysis shows the shortcomings of the generated poems at the level of figures of diction, rhythm, and euphony, but also inventive possibilities in changes to the style register towards brighter alternatives. The discourse of generated songs characterizes a fondness for idealistic, metaphysical, and artistic concepts of thought and a penchant for action. At the semantic level, a lack of pain and a significant lack of treatment with the topic of death were observed. Despite the shortcomings, this work shows that future collaboration with the AI generator can be fruitful for human poets and interpreters in terms of focusing on alternative creative solutions

Organizational climate (OC) impacts and shapes employees’ performance, motivation, and job satisfaction (JS). This satisfaction stems from specific elements that affect the quality of an individual’s work life. The connection between OC and JS is intricate as it relates to every employee’s experience and its understanding. Numerous scientific studies indicate that the leadership style of managers plays a key role in creating JS. This paper examines the ways in which various dimensions of organizational culture (OC) relate to employee job satisfaction (JS) in Croatian companies, based on the primary hypothesis and five supplementary hypotheses. The initial section of the questionnaire pertains to a series of statements connected to the OC. Satisfaction served as a dependent variable, whereas the independent variables represented the five dimensions of the OC: “internal communication,” “enterprise structure,” “enterprise policy,” “employee’s advancement opportunities,” and “regard for employees’ personal interests”. An empirical study was carried out on a random selection of 100 employees from medium and large companies. The findings indicate that the relationship between OC and JS is mainly reflected in the “internal communication” aspect. Thus, enhancing “internal communication” is significantly linked to boosting employee JS in the chosen companies. No meaningful correlation was observed in the other four dimensions. The respondents highly rated their JS and the influence of their superior leaders on the chosen five dimensions. Due to the lack of sufficient empirical studies of this nature in Croatia and the surrounding region, the value of this work lies in its findings that are beneficial both to researchers and professionals. They can improve the design and execution of difficult changes to ensure a positive OC and JS. A relatively small size of the respondent sample and the demographic imbalance further restricted the general validity of the conclusions. In upcoming studies, the authors may explore additional statistical tests and further examine the connections between various forms of OC and specific industries and business operations. U budućim istraživanjima autori mogu razmotriti neke druge statističke testove i dublje istražiti odnos između različitih vrsta OK i pojedinih industrija, odnosno djelatnosti

Illusions of Imagination as an Analogy for the Influence of Passive Affects on Actions and Reasoning

    No full text
Rezultati ovoga istraživanja proizlaze iz analize Spinozina originalnoga filozofskog promišljanja o idejama imaginacije i o procesu njihova nastajanja u analogiji s idejama afektivnih stanja tijela, odnosno u analogiji s afektima. The aim of this research is to analyse Spinoza’s original philosophical reflection on the ideas of the imagination and on the process of their formation in analogy with the ideas of affective states of the body, that is, in analogy with affects. The article examines the philosophical ideas of Baruch Spinoza with a focus on the special capacity of imagination and illusions that can arise from this cognitive capacity, thereby pointing in an analogous way to the correlation of passive affects, judgments and actions. The results of the analysis and comparison of the influence of illusions created by the imagination and the influence of passive affects on cognition, reasoning and action indicate their similar characteristics. Despite the appearance of inadequate and illusory imaginative ideas in experience – which, according to Spinoza, are impossible to remove – the cognition and awareness of their inadequacy and uncertainty strongly influence our judgment and inference and thereby weaken their influence. Similarly, in understanding passive or negative affects as indicators of a change in the state of the affected body and the ideas of such changes, we recognize these very often intense affects as inappropriate factors to guide us in judgment and action

The Benedictines and Pre-Romanesque Sculpture in Northern and Central Dalmatia

    No full text
Krševana i Sv. The paper explores the role of the Benedictine order as a key factor in the emergence and dissemination of pre- Romanesque sculpture in the Eastern Adriatic. Emphasis is placed on the Benedictines of Zadar as commissioners of some of the most notable pre-Romanesque reliefs in Croatian early medieval heritage. Their influence extended to shaping artistic tastes in the wider hinterland of Zadar and across northern and central Dalmatia in general, including the territory of the early medieval Duchy of Croatia during the 9th century. Recently published pre-Romanesque reliefs from the churches of St Chrysogonus and St Mary Minor, still largely unknown to the wider public, provide crucial evidence of the earlier presence of the Benedictine order in Zadar than previously assumed. The early pre-Romanesque reliefs uncovered in these two important Benedictine churches suggest that the order was active in Zadar from the last quarter of the 8th century at the latest, although their presence in the city is indirectly attested in historical sources only from the early 10th century

The Phenomenon of Introducing Marble Altars to the Croatian Littoral: An Unknown Altar from the Pacassi Workshop in the Former Frankopan Castle in Bakar

This paper reconstructs the phenomenon of introducing marble altars to Habsburg territories in the Croatian Littoral and Istria at the end of the 17th century, based on new data. Newly discovered archival sources reveal that the first marble altar, dedicated to St Francis Xavier, was erected in 1683 in the former Jesuit church of St Vitus in Rijeka. It was the Jesuits who initiated the transformation of sacred spaces by introducing marble furnishings, gradually replacing earlier wooden ones. During the last decade of the 17th century, commissioners from Rijeka procured altars exclusively from the altar workshop of the Pacassi family in Gorizia. Their works can be found in the former Jesuit church in Rijeka, the parish church in Kastav, the chapel of the Immaculate Conception in the former Augustinian monastery in Rijeka, and the Franciscan church in Trsat. Finally, the Kvarner oeuvre of the Pacassi family includes a fragmentarily preserved altar from the chapel of St Michael in the former Frankopan castle in the town of Bakar

Portrait Fragmentation and the Split Subject in the Artistic Research Project Superheroine by Nadija Mustapić

    No full text
This paper analyses the concept behind the audiovisual installation Superheroine (working title) by the Rijeka-based artist Nadija Mustapić, where she explores the position of women in the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Mustapić is interested in the new gender, class, and racial definitions of work in contemporary society that have been revealed or enhanced by the extraordinary situation caused by the pandemic (such as working from home) and the feminist response to the newly created and imposed stereotypes. The visual part of the installation is conceived as a large-format video projected in the exhibition venue. Using the techniques of overlapping, masking, and slicing videos of numerous (more than 100) women standing in front of the camera in full format, the artist has created a composite image of a (universal) female figure composed of many vertical strips. These strips are fragments of the video portraits of different women taken from the same angle. The paper aims at showing how this approach reflects the perspective of the artist and supports the concept behind the artwork. The analysis is based on selected aspects of art theory, including portrait fragmentation strategies, discursive analysis of the feminist perspective selected by the artist, and the psychoanalytical approach to the phenomenon of splitting and decentring of the postmodern subject

Materijalnost, metafikcija i „Stvarnost fantazije“ u suvremenim slikovnicama

    No full text
According to many scholars, picturebooks are artefacts that deserve not only to be read but also cherished. Artists and publishers nowadays experiment more and more with book architecture in order to attract consumers. As a result, picturebooks in interesting shapes and different sizes, featuring impressive fabrics and boasting odd paper qualities and unusual textures are published, imbued with aesthetic and ludic appeal. The use of cuts, flaps, foldouts, envelopes, slipcases, die-cuts, pop-ups, and tabs in picturebooks, all challenge the traditional reading process, as readers must carefully observe their physical, multisensory and interactive elements so as to interpret the denotative and connotative meanings of the picturebooks and participate in storytelling. Those materials also draw attention to the status of books as objects, dissolving the boundaries between fiction and reality. Based on previous academic research regarding the differences between concepts such as narrativity and nonnarrativity, fiction, nonfiction and metafiction, and the material aspects of picturebooks, this article correlates the concepts of metafiction and materiality. It discusses the role of movable parts in picturebooks and the way they offer readers a playful experience, compelling them to embed that narratives are artefacts of fiction and making them aware of the interplay between reality and illusion, allowing the latter to become part of their world. Stoga se objavljuju slikovnice zanimljivih oblika i različitih formata, opremljene impresivnim tkaninama, neuobičajenom kvalitetom papira i osebujnim teksturama, estetski i ludički primamljive.
