    On ‘Grammar of Belonging’

This contribution is based on the first steps of a new interdisciplinary and multilingual project that analyses interviews with young people with a migration background in Germany in which they are asked about their experiences (how they perceive the employment/training situation, the housing market, the way the authorities deal with them and the opportunity to meet new people). The project intends to identify and analyse linguistic phenomena in the interviews, which will be summarised under the heading “language or grammar of belonging” (Meinhof/Galasiński 2005), focusing on the ways in which the language used is involved in the construction and affirmation of multiple identities that intersect, challenge or complement each other. In fact, diversity and movement, and moreover overcoming the boundary between countries, languages and cultures, are particularly considered in the interviews with young people living the experience of migration and expressing themselves in a language other than their mother tongue. By referring to intercultural experiences and the concepts of intercultural German studies, these texts therefore represent valid material for interdisciplinary studies that primarily examine language. First theoretical references can be found in Wodak et al. (1999). In their studies, they focus their attention on lexis and syntax in order to extrapolate the construction of “unity, difference, uniqueness, origin, continuity, change, autonomy, heteronomy”. Subsequently, De Fina (2003) has focused on the narrative aspects used to construct identity. However, both Wodak et al.’s and De Fina’s study lack systematicity and completeness for the study of identity discourse. In fact, the language used makes use of the whole spectrum of linguistic devices, so that time, place and person enable the positioning of the speaker as belonging to a certain group with which he or she discursively identifies. Therefore, temporal, spatial and personal references should not be separated from the context in which they occur. Discourse analysis is oriented towards the text, which is itself intertextual. Following also Fairclough’s model (1989, 1992), the approach to the text is through lexis, grammar and text structure

The aim of this paper is to describe the development and the results of a virtual language tandem between Spanish and German language students from the Universities of Trier (Germany) and Murcia (Spain). The sessions of the language exchange, which took place in pairs via conference weekly during a term were recorded and served as the basis for the development of an evaluation grid, the validity of which was subsequently tested on the project results. A survey, in which the participants were asked about intercultural aspects and their concrete personal development in this regard, was used for internal evaluation and to check the achievement of the project goal. Both evaluation methods turned out to be valid tools for assessing intercultural competence

About the Baruffe chiozzotte relocated to Dubrovnik: the tradaptator to the reader

The localized translation of Carlo Goldoni’s Baruffe chiozzotte into the idiom of Dubrovnik, carried out by Morana Čale specifically for the performance directed by Krešimir Dolenčić as part of the 2025 Dubrovnik Summer Festival theater season, occupies the central part of the contribution and is accompanied by an introductory presentation and a technical- grammatical explanation included at the end, both of which are signed by the translator/adaptor. The prefatory text aims to situate the translation-adaptation - designated by the neologism tradattamento, modelled on the English word “tradaptation” - in the context of Dubrovnik’s centuries-old theatrical tradition, which is both original and rich in adaptations, ranging from the comedies of Marin Držić (in Italian, Marino Darsa), which inaugurated the comedic genre in the sixteenth century, to the French-inspired works that flourished in the eighteenth century, up to the most relevant examples of Ragusan and Croatian adaptations, especially Goldonian, from the last hundred years. After a reasoned review of the linguistic models available in the dramaturgical history of Dubrovnik that could serve as the most suitable for the new Ragusanization of Goldoni’s famous comedy, the argument is made in favour of the translator’s adoption of the sixteenth-century language found in Držić’s comedies as the best choice for at least two reasons. Firstly, the Darsian language guarantees, for various reasons, a satisfactory degree of communicability between the performance and the contemporary audience, whether Ragusan or more generally Croatian, in line with Goldoni’s ideas on the necessity of adapting the text to the culture and taste of the audience. Furthermore, considering the documented sense of discomfort expressed by the Ragusan people in recent decades regarding the progressive loss of the Ragusan dialect, the more dated literary and theatrical model, while also being less overloaded with foreign terms compared to later cultural and lexical overlays, seems, according to the opinion of the translator, to favour the collective need for recovery - more symbolic than likely - of a common linguistic background. The concluding section provides information about the Ragusan setting, regarding anthroponyms, toponyms, folkloric and cultural elements, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions. It highlights the reuse of citation elements drawn from the dramatic works of the Ragusan tradition, particularly from the comedies of Marin Držić. Finally, the main differences are noted between the text of the adaptation, characterized by a seemingly archaizing position, and the modifications, mostly morphosyntactic, made by Dolenčić’s ensemble to the Ragusanized text by Morana Čale.

A key element of Reforming Research Assessment (RRA) practices is to move away from simplistic approaches based on bibliometric indicators and consider a wide variety of research activities. Existing large-scale data collections cover a broader range of research output such as publications, data, software, research methods, patents, data management plans and tools. The current challenge is the lack of a robust, high-quality open infrastructure

Underwater archaeological research in the bay of Caska on the island of Pag continued from May 4 to 19, 2024. During the first week, work resumed in Zone D of Sector 1, where it had stopped last year. In the second week, taking into account new discoveries, research continued in a small cove southeast of Tunera, called Mala Pošta. At this location, a row of wooden poles was discovered that probably supported operational waterfront along a large retaining wall, built to prevent erosion. At the location of Mrke Stene, further in the direction of Pod bužu cove, the remains of another scuttled boat were discovered. Given that the discovery occurred on the last working day, further investigation of the wreck is planned for the next research campaign

As part of the Croatian Science Foundation project (Undersea Neolithic sites in the Croatian Adriatic IP-2022-10-3893), underwater archaeological research was conducted at the Soline site in May 2024. The end of the inner side of the coastal wall was defined by exploring an area of 3 x 6 meters. The investigated area is higher than other parts of the coastal wall, and the structure found most likely belongs to the fortifications that are part of the entrance to the late Neolithic settlement

The police and Politics of Literature in the Novel Vježbanje života [The Exercise of Life] by Nedjeljko Fabrio

U ovom se radu motre policija i politika književnosti u rancièreovskom smislu u romanu Vježbanje života (1985.) Nedjeljka Fabrija (1937. – 2018.). On u svom kritičkim sustavu razlikuje policiju i politiku književnosti. Umeće on brojne priče u priči, unosi različite oblike tekstova, koristi brojna tipografska rješenja i nadilazi tradicionalne žanrovske odlike prisutne u romanu. This paper explores the police and politics of literature in the Rancière sense in the novel Vježbanje života [The Exercise of Life] (1985) by Nedjeljko Fabrio (1937-2018). Namely, Jacques Rancière (1940) grounded aesthetics from the heights of pure art towards the common reality of forms and transformations of sensory experience, which is evident in the essay Le Partage du sensible from 2000. His theory became a stimulating framework for coming up with inventive ways of connecting political theory and aesthetics. In his critical system, he distinguishes between the police and politics of literature. When looking at the police of literature in the novel Vježbanje života [The Exercise of Life], one can see various political debates, the presentation of the protagonist’s personal views on certain (political) issues, and criticism of the society in which we live. Fabrio carries out the division of the sensory in a completely new way, which is visible in the use of different narrative strategies in the novel. He inserts numerous stories into the story, introduces different forms of texts, uses numerous typographical solutions, and goes beyond the traditional genre characteristics present in the novel. The use of these narrative strategies, unusual for prose works until the appearance of Vježbanje života [The Exercise of Life], lays bare the literary policy systematically conducted at the level of the entire novel by Nedjeljko Fabrio. The author speaks about various topics and is protected from any type of censorship (political, religious, etc.) precisely through literature. The freedom that literature offers the author is “a powerful political weapon, which can nevertheless be neutralized at a moment’s notice as fiction” (Derrida)
