    Prophetic Food-Based Cosmetics: A Segment of Halal Beauty Market

    The current trends witness the Sunnah revival in every aspect of life. The studies and research of prophetic foods has shown a tremendous progress as alternative medicine. The numerous studies have proved that prophetic foods are very good for health. However, the potential of prophetic food in cosmetics and beauty products is still under explored. The prophetic food as main ingredients for cosmetics and beauty product is not new as some cosmetics brands have already have their products infused with prophetic food as main ingredients such as in Safi, The Body Shop and Good Virtues & Co. Thus, this paper tries to review the potential of prophetic food-based cosmetics as a segment in Halal beauty industry and its prospective in the Muslim market

    Arabic Should Not Be Cast As Heritage: Arabic Lives

    Language acquisition research often conceives of language learners in terms of linguistic proficiency and perhaps assigns them a position on a continuum with the native speaker at one end and the foreign language learner on the other. The heritage language learner falls somewhere between these two extremes and often shares a deep affiliation with the language that can be ethnically, historically, culturally or religiously driven or they may share a multifaceted affiliation with the language. Arabic heritage language learners typically include Arabs of any religious or non-religious affiliation and non-Arab Muslims. Research has considered various matters associated with Arabic heritage language learners that range from differences in their motivations to language maintenance within communities. However, research on Arabic has not really considered the implications of the term heritage itself. This paper will critically examine the term heritage language learner and argue that it is problematic due to the inherent implications of the word “heritage” which can contribute to the perpetuation of linguistic hegemony and result in language loss.     Integrated Studies on Health Benefits of Vinegar in the Sunnah and Malay Medical Manuscripts

    Studies on vinegar from the single perspective of knowledge has been done by many people, but then, the integrated studies on it by involving prophetic traditions (sunnah) and Malay manuscripts have not been taken seriously and not being focused widely by scholars. That is why researchers are encouraged more to study the health benefits of vinegar through the prophetic traditions and Malay medical manuscripts. In doing so, the researchers will identify the related hadith to vinegar in many books of hadith and the Malay medical remedies inside Malay manuscripts that are mixed with local herbs with vinegar to treat diseases. Furthermore, the researchers will focus on the scientific facts related to the chemical compounds of vinegar. The result of this qualitative study is to assert the importance of taking vinegar continually as one of the best solutions to prevent any disease. Additionally, to prove the richness of our local pharmaceutical to treat illnesses and to convince our self that the local remedies inside the Malay manuscripts can treat many ailments and it is sufficient without fully relying on the modern medicine

    Fatwa Analysis on Bone China Products and Its Halal Solution

    This article discusses the use of animal bones in bone China products from halal and haram perspective. The main problem of the study due to the public confusion as a result of the difference views on halal and haram status of bone China products. The objectives of the study are to analyze the Shariah’s view and current fatwa on the law of utilizing animal bones, thus proposing a halal legal solution to the issue studied. The qualitative research methodology was used in this study through two approaches which are document analysis and interview. The study found that the cattle bones were the raw ingredients used by most of the bone China’s manufacturers. The analysis of fuqaha views found that only halal animal bones which has been slaughtered according to Shariah law were agreed to be halal (permissible), while pork bones was agreed to be haram (prohibited). However, there are disagreements among Islamic scholars for the bones of carcasses other than pigs. This arising from their difference interpretation on Shariah\u27s arguments comprising the Qur\u27an, hadith, qiyās and maslahah. In the case of using animal bones in bone China products, the fatwa that permitted its use is found to be stronger, provided that it is not susceptible to pigs, based on the theory of transformation through burning (istiḥālah bi al-iḥrāq). However, among halal alternatives to bone China are clay and melamine-based products which are found to be stronger and cheaper than bone China

    Kajian Persepsi Penonton Terhadap Rancangan Dialog Harmoni di TV Al-Hijrah Sebagai Medium Dialog Antara Agama di Malaysia: [The Perception of Audiences Towards Dialog Harmoni program on TV Al-Hijrah As A Medium of Interfaith Dialogue in Malaysia]

    The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of audiences towards the “Dialog Harmoni” program on TV Al-Hijrah as a medium of interfaith dialogue in Malaysia. This study involved 290 respondents from various races and religions who have already watched the Dialog Harmoni program. The sample was drawn randomly. The instrument of this study is a quantitative means, using a questionnaire containing of 55 items related to the audiences’ perceptions towards Dialog Harmoni program. The questionnaire is based on four key dimensions, namely dimension of the importance of Dialog Harmoni, the roles of Dialog Harmoni, the moderator and panelists, and its contents. Descriptive analysis was used to find the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Data was analysed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows version 20.0. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient for the instrument was α = .849. The result shows that the overall perceptions of the viewer towards Dialog Harmoni program on TV Al-Hijrah as a medium of interfaith dialogue was at a high level (mean = 3.90). While the mean level of the audiences’ perception of the dimension of the importance in Dialog Harmoni (mean = 4.09), the dimension of the role in Dialog Harmoni (mean = 3.90), the dimensions of the moderator and panelists in Dialog Harmoni (mean = 3.87) and the dimensions of the contents in Dialog Harmoni (mean = 3.73). The implication of this study is that the Dialog Harmoni program should be continued because it has positive impacts on the society of all races and religions in Malaysia. In addition, Dialog Harmoni program can be used as a medium of interfaith dialogue which can attract young people to learn and gain knowledge about the diversity of religious beliefs, practices, customs and traditions of other religions in Malaysia. Abstrak Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti persepsi penonton terhadap rancangan Dialog Harmoni di TV Al-Hijrah sebagai medium dialog antara agama di Malaysia. Kajian ini melibatkan seramai 290responden yang terdiri daripada penonton pelbagai kaum dan agama yang telah menyaksikan rancangan Dialog Harmoni.Pemilihan sampel dibuat secara rawak mudah. Instrumen kajian ini dilakukan secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan soal selidik yang mengandungi 55 item yang berkaitan dengan persepsi penonton terhadap rancangan Dialog Harmoni berdasarkan kepada empat dimensi utama iaitu dimensi kepentingan, peranan, moderator dan panelis, dan isi kandungan. Analisis statistik deskriptif telah digunakan untuk mendapatkan nilai kekerapan, peratus, min dan sisihan piawai. Data dianalisis menggunakan perisian Statistikal Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) for window version 20.0. Nilai pekali kebolehpercayaan Alpha Cronbach bagi instrumen kajian ini ialah α=.849. Hasil dapatan kajian menunjukkan secara keseluruhan persepsi penonton terhadap rancangan Dialog Harmoni sebagai medium dialog antara agama berada pada tahap yang tinggi (min=3.90). Manakala tahap min persepsi penonton terhadap dimensi kepentingan DH (min=4.09), dimensi peranan DH (min=3.90), dimensi moderator dan panelis DH (min=3.87) dan dimensi isi kandungan DH (min=3.73). Implikasi kajian ialah rancangan Dialog Harmoni ini perlu diteruskan kerana dapat memberi kesan yang positif kepada masyarakat yang berbilang kaum, bangsa dan agama di Malaysia. Selain itu, rancangan ini adalah sebuah medium dialog antara agama yang dapat menarik minat golongan muda untuk lebih mengetahui kepelbagaian anutan agama, amalan, budaya dan tradisi agama-agama lain di Malaysia

    Analisa Syariah Terhadap Konsep dan Jualan Lelong Secara Bisik: Kajian Kes Pasar Bisik Kuala Muda Kedah: [Shariah Analysis on the Concept and Application of Whispering Auction Sales: A Case Study of Pasar Bisik Kuala Muda Kedah]

    Auction is a sale process practiced by communities by offering goods or services for bid and selling them to the highest bidder. Normally, the auction is implemented openly, but there are some people who did it in secret in which the buyer or bidder will whisper alternately price offered to the seller and followed by the other bidders as what happened in the market mechanism in Kuala Muda Malaysia which called as Pasar Bisik. This paper aimed to examine the extent of compliance of the auction sale conducted by whisper to the Islamic law in terms of fulfillment of the principles and conditions of sale contract. The study found that selling auction by whisper is like an ordinary auction sale practice which made either bright light or in writing even in the online auction, ie when the rules and conditions can be fulfilled and independent of the main elements of which are prohibited; riba, gharar, najsy, curbun and maysir. Rather than that, Islam is very concerned and considering the good habit or practice among the society to make it as a rule based on Islamic legal maxims (al-cadat Muhakkamah) and (al-macruf curfan ka al-masyrut syartan). Abstrak Lelong adalah salah satu proses jual beli yang diamalkan oleh sebahagian masyarakat untuk memenuhi kehidupan mereka dengan cara menawarkan barang atau (perkhidmatan) untuk dibida, mengambil bida kemudian menjual barang kepada pembida tertinggi. Kebiasaannya lelong dilakasanakan secara terbuka sama ada secara lisan ataupun bertulis. Namun ada juga sesetengah masyarakat yang melakukannya secara bisik di mana pembeli atau pembida akan membisikkan secara bergantian harga barang yang ditawarkan kepada penjual dan dikuti oleh pembida-pembida yang lain sepertimana yang berlaku pada mekanisma pasar bisik di Kuala Muda Malaysia. Oleh itu, kertas kerja ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana kepatuhan jual beli lelong yang dilakukan secara bisik terhadap kehendak syarak dari segi terpenuhinya rukun dan syarat jual beli. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa jual beli lelong secara bisik tak ubahnya seperti praktek jual beli lelong secara tradisional yang dilakukan sama ada secara terang terangan ataupun secara bertulis bahkan lelong di atas talian; iaitu boleh apabila rukun dan syaratnya terpenuhi dan bebas dari elemen utama yang dilarang; riba, gharar, najsy, curbun dan maysir. Selain itu, syarak sangat mengambil berat dan mempertimbangkan aspek kebiasaan atau amalan yang baik yang menjadi tradisi di kalangan masyarakat untuk dijadikan suatu hukum sebagaimana disebutkan dalam kaedah fiqh (al-cadat muhakkamah) dan (al-macruf curfan ka al-masyrut syartan)

    Islamic NGO as another actor of Civil Society: the Case of Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM)

    The role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the development of society has been the focus of academic study since the nineteenth century based on the positive contributions of the private sector in spearheading the general and specific roles in the society. The post-Cold War world has witnessed the emerging of NGOs as an alternative to the states due to the liberalization of global economy worldwide. It was since then the academic interest on this phenomenon has risen in particular in the late 1980s when NGOs has managed to replace governments’ role in reaching out to the people, or in other cases becoming the voice of the people before the governments. This study aims to explore the dynamic roles of NGOs in leading the change and reforms in the modern society and how Islamic organization could fit into the framework by critically looking into the experience of Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM), a Malaysian-based Islamic organization as a case study. While the results reveal some positive impacts on the society, they also exhibit some challenges and conflicts when the evolution reaches certain stages of time and space, illustrating the dynamic nature of IKRAM as both an Islamic organization and NGO with respect to strategies, resources and strategic actions

    The Misrepresented Claims Of David Samuel Margoliouth On Prophet Muhammad’s Miracles: A Critical Evaluation

    This paper attempts to evaluate the misrepresented claims of the Western orientalist, David Samuel Margoliouth on the miracles of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). Like most Christian scholars, Margoliouth claimed that only Biblical prophets wrought a number of miracles to validate their truth, and Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) possessed no miracle including the Qur’an. To justify his claim, Margoliouth asserted that even the Qur’an clearly points out that the Prophet (p.b.u.h) was never given any miracle, and hence, Muslims’ claims that he performed many physical miracles were just inaccurate and groundless. In attempt to evaluate the misrepresented claims of Margoliouth, this paper examines his main evidences and observations. At the same time, it deliberates a critical investigation of historical Islamic data about the miracles of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) in order to point out the validity of those miracles. Based on the historical facts, it can be justifiably claimed that Margoliouth’s rejection of Prophet’s miracles was part of his misrepresentation of Islam

    The Role of Zakat and Success Factor for Muallaf Conditions: An Analysis in Selangor, Malaysia

    In Selangor, zakat assistance to the new converts begins from the first day they become Muslims. The new Muslim would be immediately helped with MYR 500.00 monthly allowance for five years until they manage to act in accordance with Allah’s orders and to perform worshipping (Mukallaf). The main problem statement is, how the effectiveness of zakat distribution among muallaf was?. Thus, this article presents structural equation models for effectiveness of zakat distribution among muallaf in Selangor. The formation of the models consists of the condition of the muallaf and success factors as well as the income before and after zakat distribution towards the muallaf, which are the observed variable. This specification will able to examine the predictors of differences between income without zakat and income with zakat. The Muallaf really need and seek for help from the Muslim especially in Muslim country in terms of economic strength and support. Thus, developmental programs are crucial in order to support them physically and mentally. An effective program can be an instrument to equip them with negative perception that they received after becoming a Muslim. The main objective of this article is to explore the effectiveness of muallaf development programs organized in Selangor, this article uses the crosstabs methods based on several critical success factors. The method been use in this research is mix method by conducted through in-depth interviews with selected Muallaf from a variety of cultural backgrounds, living in the area of Selangor, Malaysia. Then the next phase, this article conducted set of survey questionnaires among 80 respondents to confirm the findings. The respondents were randomly selected from Selangor Zakat Centre (SZC) zakat recipient’s list from the New Converts category for nine districts of Selangor in 2013. The main finding of this article indicates that Muallaf who are receiving zakat assistant are able to manage successfully in their economics life and manage to assist their non-Muslims family for solving family problem as a result of conversion to Islam as well as helping them out from poverty

    Syarat Kesihatan Fizikal Bagi Ketua Negara Dalam Islam: Suatu Ijtihad: [ Physical Health Requirement For The Head of State in Islam : An Ijtihad ]

    Previous scholars of Islamic politics discussed the prerequisites that must be fulfilled by someone to be appointed as a head of state and the number of requirements set was different from one scholar to another. It is observed that al-Mawardi put seven requirements, Ibn Khaldun with five requirements, al-Ghazali with ten requirements, al-Baghdadi with four requirements, and Ibn Hazm suggested eight requirements. These differences arose because some scholars set the requirements in more detail whereas some of them lumped up several in one requirement. There are also some requirements that they agreed and some requirements they did not agree. Physical health requirement or no defects senses is one of the disagreements among some scholars. This difference is due to the lack of clear text (nas sarih) either in al-Quran or in al- Hadith, however it shall be based on ijtihad to the interpretation of certain Quranic text. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the differences in views and strength of ijtihad on health requirement during the current different application. This is a qualitative study by using the library research and data was analyzed using descriptive method. The study found out that physical health requirement for the head of state is an ijtihad to benefit the people and the current needs of a particular country. Abstrak Para sarjana siasah syar’iyyah terdahulu telah membahaskan syarat-syarat yang wajib dipenuhi oleh seseorang yang akan dilantik menjadi ketua negara dengan jumlah senarai persyaratan yang berbeza antara satu dengan yang lainnya. al-Mawardi meletakkan tujuh syarat, Ibn Khaldun lima syarat, al-Ghazali sepuluh syarat, al-Baghdadi empat syarat, dan Ibn Hazm lapan syarat. Perbezaan ini timbul kerana beberapa ulama lebih mendetailkannya, dan sebahagian mereka meringkaskannya dalam satu syarat. Terdapat juga syarat yang mereka sepakati dan tidak disepakati. Syarat kesihatan fizikal atau tiada kecacatan pancaindera adalah salah satu syarat yang mereka tidak sepakati. Perbezaan ini adalah kerana tidak terdapat nas yang jelas (sarih) daripada al-Quran mahupun hadis, tetapi ia ditetapkan lebih berdasarkan ijtihad kepada tafsiran beberapa nas.Penulisan ini bertujuan menganalisis perbezaan pandangan dan kekuatan ijtihad syarat kesihatan terhadap aplikasi semasa yang berbeza tuntutannya. Penulisan ini menggunakan metode keperpustakaan yang dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Kajian mendapati bahawa meletakkan syarat kesihatan fizikal bagi ketua negara merupakan hasil ijtihad bagi kemaslahatan umat dan keperluan semasa sesebuah negara
