A CRITICAL REVIEW OF KAMALA MARKANDAYA'S NOVEL "A SILENCE OF DESIRE"
In 1960, Kamala Markandaya published "A Silence of Desire," her third novel. It's an innovative
step that adds new thematic complexity to her story. The author expertly dissects the marriage
relationship in this insightful work. K.S.N. Rao claims that the novel succeeds on a psychological
level. A Silence of Desire is a creative analysis of the mental illness of a middle-class,
conservative, religious woman. The story is representative of the growing yet uneasy middle class
and the conflicts and solutions that arise from inside that demographic's unique psychology and
temperament. "A Silence of Desire" is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that explores the
complexities of postcolonial identity, cultural collision, and the search for self-understanding. This
literary masterpiece continues to captivate readers with its perceptive analysis of pressing themes
that shape our interconnected society. As conventional Indian ideals and Western modernity
collide, "A Silence of Desire" by Kamala Markandaya delves into the intricate complexities of
culture and individual identity. Sarojini and Ravi Dandekar's marriage is challenged by their
divergent views on religion, spirituality, and the evolving post-colonial Indian environment, which
is at the centre of the story. This research aims to delve into the knotty problems of coming into
one's own as a person in the face of competing modernist and traditionalist pressures. Sarojini's
steadfast trust in the mysterious Swamy exemplifies the lasting influence of conventional wisdom
and the pursuit of enlightenment. At the end of the story, the couple learns more about themselves,
their culture, and the significance of maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity. (65

intention of beauty products, while tie-strength has not significantly influenced the purchase
intention. Therefore, brands should have a consistent image across social media platforms and
influence the followers with helpful information and entertaining videos. Public-organization
engagement should be improved and maintained to increase the purchase intention among
consumer
Biodiversity and application prospects of fungal endophytes in the agarwood-producing genera, Aquilaria and Gyrinops (Thymelaeaceae): A review
Agarwood is originated from the resinous part of Aquilaria and Gyrinops plants and has been a precious biomaterial for applications in traditional medicine, perfumery, cosmetics, and religious purposes all over the world. In the wild, the formation of agarwood is related to the defense mechanism of the tree in response to physical damage that allows further microbial infestation into its wood, while having the whole tree covered with agarwood would take up a long time, and it rarely happens. For Aquilaria and Gyrinops, the presence of endophytes is mainly found derived from the tree. The isolated endophytes could be important sources of natural products, while some could contribute to the formation of agarwood in the tree, which is safe for the environment and human health. This review summarized the biodiversity of fungal endophytes recorded in Aquilaria and Gyrinops and their potential effects on host trees. Till now, 67 endophytic genera have been isolated from Aquilaria and Gyrinops, and 18 ones were found responsible for the promotion of agarwood formation. Additionally, 92 compounds have been reported to be produced by the agarwood endophytes, and 52 ones displayed biological activities, most of which have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-cancer activities. Nevertheless, fungal endophytes are promising agents that deserved to be further studied and scaled up to a commercial level for the production of agarwood oil, but the role of endophytes in the agarwood host trees needs to be furtherly investigated in future studies
Relationship between the Cognition and Fear of Fall among Elderly People
Background: Aging is a dynamic process that varies from one individual to another and is marked by a reduction in physiological function. With changes caused by aging, it becomes more difficult to maintain balance because motor function involves an interaction of information from visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems that are integrated in the central nervous system. These functional changes may predispose the elderly to balance problems and increase the likelihood of falling. The Aim and Objective of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between Cognition and Fear of Fall among elderly people.
Methodology: A correlation study that includes40 subjects with both genders and mean age of 58.7 ± 4.57 were conducted. Participant’s cognitive function and fear of fall were assessed using Mini-Mental State Examination and Activity-specific Balance Confidence Scale. The data were analyzed during Pearson Correlation Coefficient.
Results showed that there was a positive correlation between Cognition and Fear of Fall among elderly peoples (r=0.8967, p> 0.01).
Conclusion: The study concludes that older adults with possible cognitive decline have lower balance confidence, and greater fear of falling which address the needs of early attention in the management of falls
