Effectiveness of Combined Physical – Cognitive Training on Balance among Geriatric Population
Introduction: Each year, almost one-third of the elderly fall, and the likelihood of falling increases with age. Combining physical and cognitive training may be an effective intervention for fall risk reduction and cognitive enhancement. Physical and cognitive interventions, such as exercise and cognitive training, may be used to address the decline in cognitive function as well as the presence of some physical fall-related risk factors, such as decreased balance control, muscle weakness, and a slow gait, which predispose older adults to fall. Physical and cognitive abilities training can help to prevent or slow the onset of age- related cognitive decline. Aim: To Determine the Effectiveness of Combined Physical- Cognitive training on Balance among Geriatric population.
Objective: To find out the effectiveness of combined physical – cognitive training on balance and cognitive function among geriatric population using Berg Balance Scale and Mini Mental State Examination.
Methodology: This study is a quasi-experimental study. The study was conducted with sample size of 15 participants. The participants were selected from SCPT out-patient and SMCH hospital, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The detailed procedure was explained to the participants and a written informed consent form was obtained. All the 15 subjects were assessed with Berg Balance Scale and Mini Mental State Examination as a pretest and the same test was performed for post-test at the end of 4 weeks following the intervention protocol. All the 15 subjects received the combined training of physical and cognitive training for 60 mins, 3 sessions in a week, continued for 4 weeks.
Results and Conclusion: Combined physical cognitive training is more effective on improving balance and cognitive function in geriatric population than using of a single treatment protocol
A Framework for Formulation of Student Dataset Using Existing and Novel Features for Analysis
One major problem identified with most schools in Nigeria is that they lack structured educational datasets that is composed of several attributes related to each student, such as term-based grades, courses taken, student-specific details, and absences which could be easily analysed. This paper formulates a dataset with some novel features for analysing and predicting student performance. Apart from the current features like age, grade, number of failures etc. some novel features which consists of environmental factors were proposed. Students’ records were collected from schools and surveys on schools’ infrastructure were collected using a questionnaire. The data were analysed using NumPy and Pandas in python. Random forest was used as classifier for making prediction and detecting important features. The following features were found to influence the model decision in making decision; Average, Number of failures, students score in all the subjects, school type, portable drinking water, availability of electricity, textbook to student ratio, and availability of laboratory reagents. Four of the proposed features were among the most important features. In addition, the model was excellent in making prediction. Results of the analysis shows that there are more male than females in the dataset, this means that government, non-governmental organization and the society needs to promote and encourage girl child education
Waste Prediction in Gross Pollutant Trap Using Machine Learning Approach
Urbanization is often associated with decreased rainwater quality due to many factors, such as
uncontrolled pollution and waste disposal. Therefore, managing water quality impacts in urban
areas must be addressed to protect our environment. One of the maintenance steps is installing
gross pollutant traps (GPT). The main objective of GPT is to remove dirty pollutants that are
carried into the rainwater system before the rainwater enters the main river channel. At the same
time, it is essential to understand that tropical climates are always associated with high rainfall
intensity in a short period. It means that the amount of waste that GPT daily captures cannot be
predicted well. It causes other problems, namely the emergence of difficulties in predicting the
amount of waste that must be transported and moved from the GPT location to the final waste
disposal site so that often, the rubbish that the GPT has caught will pile up at the GPT location
without being able to be transported properly. Because the garbage vehicles that must transport
the garbage are insufficient in number and capacity, it is necessary to have a model that can
accurately predict the amount of waste that may be captured by each GPT based on past data on
the amount of garbage that has been captured. This research compares 3 algorithms for predicting
the amount of waste trapped by GPT: Simple Linear Regression, Multiple Linear Regression, and
Polynomial Regression. The results show pretty good accuracy in our model, which is the RMSE
is 1000. Next, a simple application was developed to lead the implementation of a load
optimization scenario to show the importance of predicting the number of rubbish traps by each
GPT by calculating how many trucks should be used to carry the garbage to the final waste disposal
site
Comparative Effects of Percussion Theragun Versus Physical Activity in Non-Specific Neck Pain in Young Adults – A Randomized Clinical Tr
Background: The percussion theragun uses fast oscillatory back and forth movements to produce
vibrations of different frequencies. Handheld percussive massage treatment has acquired fame as
of late, for both remedial use and in sports practice. Physical activity is any movement that uses
energy that improves strength, flexibility. With both the possible treatment options, the study raises
the question of which of the two produces better results in subjects with Non-specific neck pain in
terms of reduction of pain and increase in range. The objective of this study was to assess and
compare the therapeutic effects of the percussion theragun with physical activity for the treatment
of non-specific neck pain.
Method and Measures: The study was conducted on 36 subjects with non-specific neck pain
who were given 3 consecutive sessions (in a span of 3 days) of intervention. Through randomized
method subjects were divided into the percussion theragun group (group A) and conventional
physical activity group (group B). Outcome measures such as VAS (visual analogue scale) and
Neck range of motion were assessed
Results: The nonspecific neck pain participants in Group A and Group B showed significant
improvement in extension, right lateral flexion, left lateral flexion neck ROM and reduction in
VAS after exposed to the respective intervention. However, the Group A showed a significant
improvement in VAS and ROM when compared with Group B.
Conclusion: The current study provided the evidence to prove that the protocols used in this study
show significant reduction in pain and range of motion in subjects with non-specific neck pain in
both the groups. The percussion theragun group showed significantly greater improvement than
the physical activity group
Post-Pandemic Assessment of Parental Involvement in the DREAMS Day Care: Basis for a Proposed Plan of Action
The study titled "Post-Pandemic Assessment of Parental Involvement in the DREAMS Day Care:
Basis for a Proposed Plan of Action" aimed to evaluate the extent of parental engagement in the
DREAMS Day Care Program, a community extension activity of San Pablo Colleges, after the
COVID-19 pandemic. Parental involvement is crucial for fostering a supportive and enriching
learning environment for young children, particularly during challenging times. This research
sought to assess the impact of the pandemic on parental participation and identify potential areas
for improvement to develop an action plan for enhanced parental involvement. Using a
descriptive-quantitative approach, data was collected from 25 parents through a researcher-made
survey questionnaire. The results revealed a very positive extent of parental involvement in various
activities related to their child's preschool education. The majority of parents strongly agreed on
indicators like active support in learning activities, regular communication with teachers,
participation in school events, and discussions with their child about their preschool experiences.
The study acknowledges that despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, parents remained
actively involved in their child's education. It emphasizes the importance of promoting and
supporting parental involvement in early childhood education to create a strong foundation for
children's future success and well-being. In order to further enhance parental engagement, the
proposed plan of action includes initiatives such as enhancing communication and updates to
parents, offering workshops on supporting their child's learning, creating a welcoming and
inclusive environment, providing opportunities for parental volunteering, and addressing any
barriers hindering parental involvement
FACTORS INFLUENCING THE EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY OFMALDIVES
This research will aim to determine the influence between workplace health and safety practices
and employee performance in telecommunication industry of Maldives. Telecommunication
industry of Maldives is evolving and the job opportunities in the industry is booming. There is
limited research done in the Maldives to identify how OHS practices influence employee
performance in the sector. Hence, the objective of this study is to determine whether there is a
relationship between OHS practices and employee performance in the telecommunication sector
of Maldives. To gain insight into the subject, a number of publications and journals were studied
for the literature review. Researchers concurred that there are challenges with the topic that make
it difficult to see the situation clearly. Quantitative research methodology will be employed for this
study, and both primary and secondary sources will be consulted. Using stratified sampling, a
sample size of 88 will be chosen for the primary research from a population of 113. A questionnaire
will be employed in this study's correlative research design, and the HR teams of the participating
firms will help disseminate it to participants in order to collect data. With the aid of SPSS, cross
tabulations and correlation will be used to examine the data. This proposal includes introduction
into the research, literature review and the proposed methodology for the research
Effect of Process Management and Planning and Control on Customer Relations in Assessing Readiness to Deploy Lean Manufacturing Techniques within SMEs: SMART PLS-SEM Approach
Most lean initiatives failed because of poor readiness assessments of processes and planning which
hinder customer relations. To mitigate such occurrences, the study analyzes the effect of process
management, planning and control on customer relations within manufacturing SMEs, aimed to
ensure they have the readiness to deploy lean initiatives successfully. The study applied a
quantitative survey approach by collecting 300 responses from managers of manufacturing SMEs
in Nigeria. The findings of the study show that a positive and significant relationship exists
between process management, planning and control on customer relations. It implied that
manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria plan and manage their manufacturing processes effectively which
leads to enhanced customer relations. Hence, showing a high level of readiness to deploy lean and
ensure waste eradication, effective scheduling and improved product quality
Road Speed Breakers Power Generation
The relentless and unchecked rise in global energy consumption necessitates
the development of innovative energy generation methods. Renewable energy offers a
promising solution, utilizing lost energy and addressing both environmental and
engineering concerns. As the number of registered cars on roads increases, traffic,
pollution, and energy usage surge, highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives. This
study aims to create and evaluate a power-generating speed bump, effectively capturing
the energy dissipated during vehicle braking on speed breakers. Employing an innovative
mechanism of rack and pinion, complemented by a compound gear train. The proposed
solution combines the strengths of existing designs while rectifying their drawbacks
through component integration. To ensure long-term reliability, the mechanism undergoes
ANSYS simulations. The direction of passing over the bump and the weight of the passing
load have been studied in this research. Each trial was repeated for 20 times, and the
average value was considered to ensure the reliability of results. A maximum and
minimum power generation of 35.6W and 23.4W have been obtained
Effectiveness of Functional Strength Training Exercises Versus Neurodynamic Exercises on Balance and Gait of patients with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Background: Diabetic neuropathy is one of the long-term complications of Diabetes Mellitus.
Diabetic neuropathy symptoms include pain and numbness in the legs, feet and hands, causing
decreased sensation, proprioception, reflexes, and strength in the lower extremities which affects
balance and gait. Various interventions which are used by the physical therapist to minimize
balance dysfunction and improve Gait in people with Diabetic Polyneuropathy. Approximately 50
percent of patients with diabetes will eventually develop neuropathy which leads to impairment in
Balance and Gait. The Functional Strength Training improves the intermuscular and intramuscular
synchronization through the neural control, thereby increases the muscle power by functional
activities. Neurodynamic is the communication between different parts of the nervous system and
mobilize the peripheral nervous system, it is a physical approach to the treatment of pain. This
influences pain physiology via mechanical treatment of neural and the non-neural structures of the
nervous system. Both Functional Strength Training and Neurodynamic exercises have influence
on improving balance, gait and reduces the risk of fall. The aim of this study is to compare the
effects of Functional strength training Versus Neurodynamic exercises on Balance and Gait of
patients with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy.
Methodology: 30 patients aged 40-80 years presenting with more than 7 years who were clinically
diagnosed with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy were selected and assigned into two groups.
Experimental group A received Functional Strength Training Exercises and Group B received
Neurodynamic Exercises for 40 minutes, 5 days per week for a period of 4 weeks. Balance and
Gait were assessed in terms of Berg Balance Scale and Functional Gait Assessment. Paired and
unpaired ‘t-tests’ were used to determine significant differences in data among groups and between
the groups.
Results: A significant improvement in the values of Berg Balance Scale and Functional Gait
Assessment was observed in Functional Strength Training Exercises as well as in Neurodynamic
Exercises. Functional Strength Training Exercises showed statistically significant improvement in
terms of BBS and FGA than the Neurodynamic Exercises.
Conclusion: Both Functional Strength Training Exercises and Neurodynamic Exercises were
found to improve the Balance and Gait in patients with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. However,
the Functional Strength Training showed more significantly improvement in Balance and Gait
subsequently reducing fall and fall risk injury
Analysis of Accounting Information Systems for Purchase and Sales in MSMEs
The current state of demand analysis, information technology development, and industrial
technology utilization in the industrial sector, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises
(MSMEs), is characterized by rapidity. The analysis reveals that most MSMEs still maintain their
sales records by hand, making it difficult to determine stock levels, overall sales, and earnings
rapidly and accurately. To handle better records utilizing a FoxPro 9.0 database that is based on a
sales accounting system, an accounting system is therefore required. To demonstrate the
requirement analysis and solution, this research uses Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 to create an
accounting information system for purchasing and selling. The System Development Life Cycles
(SDLC) technique, in conjunction with the Waterfall method, was employed in this investigation.
A MySQL database is the one that is being used. Each stage of the waterfall approach will be
followed in the creation of the methodology. This study results in a sales and purchases accounting
system that can help with supplier purchases and sales tracking, allowing the business owner to
ascertain profit margins in a matter of weeks or months. Data entry on the inventory of
commodities acquired from suppliers, access to the quantity of items sold, sales reports, and reports
on purchases made make up the resulting accounting information system. An accounting system
for product sales and purchases can assist the business owner in learning more and making better
decisions for the future management of the company
