Черно море като политическа и културна метафора. (Наблюдения върху „Червената Ривиера“ на Кристен Годси и „Златните прахоляци“ на Силвия Шедлецка)
The article analyzes the image of Black Sea littoral as a cultural and political metaphor for the processes in Bulgaria’s communist and post-communist period. Two outside critical perspectives on the recent Bulgarian history are compared – Kristen Ghodsee’s ethnographical study based on small histories of Bulgarians working in the tourism industry, whose lives were affected by the Transition period, and Sylwia Siedlecka’s collection of non-fiction texts on the physical and mental remnants of communist past, which continue to shape the present. The article outlines the image of the pre- and post-1989 period presented in the books, arguing that in both cases the sea metaphor (Red Riviera for the communist seaside project and Golden Dusts for the remains of the communist past in the post-communist present) challenge the common foreign stereotypes about Bulgaria (i.e., the Black Sea resorts, the touristic attractions). The article analyzes the image of Black Sea littoral as a cultural and political metaphor for the processes in Bulgaria’s communist and post-communist period. Technika siedmiu sit wobec granicy zasięgu grafii łacińskiej. Analiza interkomprehensyjna na materiale ukraińsko-polskim
This article builds upon a previous publication that served as an introduction to the intercomprehension of The Seven Sieves Technique within the Slavic linguistic domain (Hofmański 2020). The present study, as a second and complementary contribution to this subject, conducts a thorough analysis of the functionality of the technique when applied to pairs of Slavic languages characterised by differences in linguistic subfamily affiliation and the type of script employed (Latin alphabet vs. Cyrillic). The conducted analysis indicates that the difficulty level in comprehending a message subjected to the seven-step adaptive procedure is comparable for texts originally written in Czech and Ukrainian. This finding corroborates the hypothesis regarding the substantial potential of the technique and its full functionality in transcending the boundaries imposed by script variations. This article builds upon a previous publication that served as an introduction to the intercomprehension of The Seven Sieves Technique within the Slavic linguistic domain (Hofmański 2020). Middle Ages or Renaissance? Rapacka on Marulić
The famous Polish Slavist Joanna Rapacka published three studies on Marko Marulić. After they came out as separate publications, she collected them under the title Fragmenti o Maruliću (Fragments on Marulić). Rapacka refers to Marko Marulić extensively in several other works, such as the articles in her Leksykon tradycji chorwackich (Lexicon of Croatian Traditions) or in synthesizing studies on the formation of the modern Croatian nation and on regionalism in pre-modern Croatian literary culture. Her views of Marulić are worth citing and examining for two reasons: because they can still be relevant for the understanding of Marulić’s literary works and because in present-day Croatian studies they have not had the appreciation they deserve. Rapacka groups Marulić, and particularly the vernacular part of his opus, closely together with the poetics of the European literary Middle Ages, while Croatian literary historiography has in the last few decades exerted great efforts to “demedievalize” Marulić. When one reads the writings of Rapacka carefully, it becomes clear that she sees him as the first great author of medieval Croatian literature
Edukacja na Białorusi Radzieckiej w latach 1918–1941: polski wśród innych języków państwowych
The article focuses on education in the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic in the interwar period taking into account the fact that four languages were recognized as official at that time: Belarusian, Russian, Yiddish and Polish. Particular attention is paid to using Polish in the education system. The article comes to the following conclusions: the Polish language functioning in the education process was directly dependent on the policies of the socialist state, the status of other languages, and, first of all, Belarusian. This functioning was also influenced by the changing relations with the Republic of Poland. As in the case of other languages (apart from Russian), the language diversity increase was interrupted by a sharp turn, as a result of which, after World War II, education conducted in Polish in the BSSR was destroyed. Currently, after temporary rapid development during the perestroika period, any intention regarding the Polish language is systematically interrupted by the Belarusian authorities. The article focuses on education in the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic in the interwar period taking into account the fact that four languages were recognized as official at that time: Belarusian, Russian, Yiddish and Polish. Какво е Черно море за българите? Опит за когнитивна дефиниция
The object of study is the concept of the Black Sea and its aim to explain the mental image Bulgarians have of it. The concept is explored as a cultural concept, which has features not only of a cognitive, but also of a pragmatic, emotional and cultural nature. The analysis was conducted on linguistic material, which includes systematic data extracted from lexicographic and encyclopedic sources, as well as textual data taken from the Bulgarian National Corpus, media publications and authored artistic texts. Based on the analysis, a synthetic cognitive definition of the concept was formulated. The research confirms the hypothesis that the content of the concept of the Black Sea in the understanding of the Bulgarians is very rich. It includes a large number of traits relating to different aspects. Among these aspects with the greatest wealth, the geographical, economic and cultural aspects stand out. Also noticeable is the presence of the political, military and psychological aspects, as well as the psychosocial, domestic and linguistic aspects. It is essential that the linguistic material reveals important information of an axeological nature. It allows us to conclude that among Bulgarians the idea of the sea as a value and a universal good dominates among Bulgarians. The object of study is the concept of the Black Sea and its aim to explain the mental image Bulgarians have of it. Podróże po Bośni Ivana Lovrenovicia
In this article, I describe interactions between space and literature trough the example of texts by the writer and intellectual from Sarajevo, Ivan Lovrenović. It is important for this analysis that the journey was undertaken by a person with specific interests and competences, and that it was a real journey to places that exist or really existed. I discuss the analyzed problems by referring to selected research fields of geopoetics. I read Ivan Lovrenovic’s book Ikavski zemljopis as “auto/bio/geo/graphy”. I am interested in recreating fragments of the spatial frame of a traveler’s autobiographical memory, sensory perception of specific places, emotions accompanying the experience of space, as well as the tension between history, memory (both individual and collective) and writing. His literary maps are a rescue for Bosnia and Hercegovina, whose multiculturalism is slowly disappearing, or a farewell to such a dimension. The texts of Ivan Lovrenović indicate important places of memory to those who do not see them, becoming an important “place of memory” themselves. In this article, I describe interactions between space and literature trough the example of texts by the writer and intellectual from Sarajevo, Ivan Lovrenović. Edukacyjna rola ekoteologii i zooteologii Tatiany Goriczewej
The purpose of the research was to identify the possibility of forming pro-animal and pro-ecological attitudes in Christians through the zootheological and ecotheological works of Tatiana Goricheva. The method of analysis and criticism of the literature was used, which supports the use of knowledge that has been analyzed, evaluated and synthesized through this method. The analyzed texts were both interviews with Tatiana Goricheva and her publications. The possibility of forming affirmative attitudes toward the natural world, including animals, based on traditional Christian values is demonstrated. Changing attitudes to friendly towards ecological and more pro-animal positions does not require changing one’s faith or ceasing to practice it or abandoning part of the tradition. Instead, it requires at least a partial commitment on the part of believers and the work of clergy and others teaching in communities. The purpose of the research was to identify the possibility of forming pro-animal and pro-ecological attitudes in Christians through the zootheological and ecotheological works of Tatiana Goricheva. “A View of Ineffable Charm…” The Black Sea in the Ukrainian Prose of the Late 19th Century
The article analyses the image of the Black Sea in the prose works of Ukrainian writers of the last two decades of the 19th century. The sea is an important component of their creative biographies and a source of inspiration. It is also a part of their characters’ inner world symbolizing the freedom and passionate love, saving them from their loneliness and routine. The research demonstrates the philosophical components of the sea complex in the analyzed works of fiction, outlines their main motifs and psychological details. It specifies the authors’ contributions to the artistic representation of the Black Sea (the representational and informative descriptions vs the expressive descriptions) and its conceptualization as a space associated with Ukraine
