The author analyzes gender differences in the Russian journalistic discourse using the example of the lexical field related to the concept of грусть ‘sorrowʼ. The more frequent use of these words is indicative of a higher level of empathy. The results demonstrate that male authors exhibit a high er proclivity towards the usage of the words from the aforementioned lexical field. The results are another piece of evidence that a higher level of empathy in women is not absolute but rather highly dependent on the concrete context. The author analyzes gender differences in the Russian journalistic discourse using the example of the lexical field related to the concept of грусть ‘sorrowʼ. The paper deals with a detailed analysis of the characteristics of emotional discourse, organized in a literary text, specifically in the novel Gullo Gullo by Miodrag Bulatovic. Since expressing of emotions can be verbal and non-verbal, both codes relating the organization of emotional discourse have been activated. In the analysis of literary coded emotional discourse the author had to consider two-instance system of art. The fiction as a basic distinctive feature of a literary text has a crucial influence on the emotional semiosis resulting in producing emotional meaning. That process has always been influenced by various features of poetic language and its combinatorics, which are significantly different from encoding in real chronotope expressed in native language forms, governed by quite different rules of expressing emotions and transferred by the people and not the literary structure. Since the fact that disorders of phatic function of a language, communication and culture, are defined as major agents of the process in question their accepted values novels written by Miodrag Bulatovic, the author points out the importance of carnival, grotesque, pornography and satire which have been used as the main degradation processes of the canonized cultural and communication patterns in the novel, whose destructive operation inevitably affects the emotional discourse. The paper deals with a detailed analysis of the characteristics of emotional discourse, organized in a literary text, specifically in the novel Gullo Gullo by Miodrag Bulatovic. This article addresses means of expressing and implying emotions (Langlotz, Locher 2012) in realizations of impoliteness in written discourse thematizing language and identity in Croatian and Montenegrin media in 2010 and 2011. Realizations of impoliteness often relate to communicating an emotional stance that can trigger emotional responses in readers. Our discourse sample can be described as “disputes about language and identity” (cf. Felberg, Šarić 2013), which is largely characterized by conflictual disagreements. Conflictual disagreements, as Jones (2001) or Langlotz and Locher (2012) put it, do not leave one cold in face-to-face interaction: they arouse feelings of annoyance, irritation, anger, or contempt directed to the communicative partner. These observations are relevant in our context, although we deal with written discourse. The main participants in our data include well-known intellectuals, journalists, and editors. They all defend or attaca a position in discussing, among other things, “how similar ‘our’ language (Croatian/Montenegrin) is to ‘their’ language” (Serbian), and “what makes this language (Croatian/Montenegrin) a distinctive and independent entity”. These participants clearly position themselves in relation to other participants. Their positioning of the self and the other person involves negative identity-ascribing practices. Taking into consideration parameters such as the role of participants in discourse and society, context, co-text, and activity types in which discourse participants engaged, we identified various highly context-dependent types and functions of impoliteness realizations (cf. Šarić, Felberg 2015). Contrary to our expectations, the participants in the media discourse in both countries frequently use impoliteness both strategically and systematically while defending their positions. The impoliteness realizations point to emotively significant places in discourse. Their use has several functions: a prominent one is coercion through legitimizing one’s own standpoints and delegitimizing those of one’s opponents. This article addresses means of expressing and implying emotions (Langlotz, Locher 2012) in realizations of impoliteness in written discourse thematizing language and identity in Croatian and Montenegrin media in 2010 and 2011. The article is devoted to the semantic motivations of the names of feelings. Its aim is to prove that when one researches semantic motivations one discovers the original associations connected with referents, in this case, feelings. In order to present the problem in an accessible way the most legible of the names were chosen for the analysis – especially those which acquired the meaning of a feeling by way of metaphor. The names whose structure is clear but which lost their legibility due to lexicalisation were also considered. The article is devoted to the semantic motivations of the names of feelings. Tradycja, folklor, nowoczesność. Kultura górnołużycka i kaszubska w oczach ich młodych przedstawicieli

The article is based on a participatory observation and semi-structured interviews conducted in 2012 and 2013 with young (aged 16–25) Upper Sorbs and Kashubs. They were asked about their perception of the Upper Sorbian/Kashubian culture, its relation with the past, tradition and folklore, reception of the dominant image of their culture and the existence of a modern dimension of the Upper Sorbian/Kashubian culture. An analysis of the young peoples’ statements and anthropological research shows that a relation with tradition is still important for minority culture participants although it depends on the way this culture is lived. In the case of the Upper Sorbs some of the traditions, related to the Catholic culture, are alive and constitute an important part of community life. They are perceived as the ‘authentic’ ones. The Kashubian culture, however, has been strongly folklorized and young people do not identify with the folkloric representations and image of this culture, which is treated as an artificial phenomenon. Young people of both cultures want their culture to be modern yet, at the same time, have a connection with the past. The article is based on a participatory observation and semi-structured interviews conducted in 2012 and 2013 with young (aged 16–25) Upper Sorbs and Kashubs.
