This article presents an emergent model of the conceptualization of strah (Fear) in Croatian with focus on the constructions derived from the container image schema coded by preposition u (in). the semantic and syntactic analysis of the collocations of lexeme strah demonstrates conceptual hierarchy of the activation of metonymic and metaphoric processes via syntactic organization and perspectivization. It is argued that the meaning of the lexeme strah is conceptualized by metonymic profiling sensory-motor correlates of affective states and by superimposing metaphorical mappings of objects, spatial relations, object/entities with thematic and agentive roles that are organized in an emergent system of respective ontological, spatial, thematic and agentive patterns of linguistic constructions. Being a private form of communication, personal letters are usually not written to be published. The act of their publication, therefore, may be considered as somewhat voyeuristic. However, since the authors of the correspondence in this contribution – Julije Benešić and Zdenka Marković – are two public figures of great importance not only in Croatian literary and cultural context, but also in the promotion of Croatian Polish studies as well as intercultural relations between Croatia and Poland in the first half of the twentieth century, we believe that its printing is justified. Their correspondence may be considered as an interesting addition to the facts about their lives and work that can be found in different research papers and books published so far, providing insight in the inner world of thoughts and emotions they shared.Being a private form of communication, personal letters are usually not written to be published. This paper investigates comments left by users of Allegro – an on-line auction website. With the use of pragmalinguistics, author treats the e-commerce site comments as emotive-evaluative act directed towards both specific and potential contractors. It’s also an act used by the user to build websites’ participant image. Among positive acts we can distinguish acts of praising, which praise the way of closing the deal, product’s quality, contractor or the message itself. The second group consists of courtesy acts or polite sentences used In the acts of praising. Neutral comments are dominated by complaints. Their content has usually negative tone, however the addressees tend to ease them with means of such words as “unfortunately” or other words reflecting how sorry they are. The list of negative comments is dominated by acts of warning and advice. Users who initiate communication usually use censorious tone which causes asymmetry in relations between them and the addressee. The study shows that users willingly use their own words to rate the service and in addition to graphic scale and template offered by the website they describe their emotions. This paper investigates comments left by users of Allegro – an on-line auction website. The purpose of this paper was to examine the verbal expression of anger in Croatian comedy films and also to find textual and prosodic elements that provoke the viewer’s exhilaration. On the textual level analysis includes elements with which anger causes exhilaration and shows that such anger most often expresses superiority and is also unexpected which often occurs as a result of exaggeration. Due to the specific genre of comedy, i.e. its guaranteed lack of seriousness, the viewers are not aware of high presence of anger in film comedies. Comedy requires a different insight to life situations and a reinterpretation that leads to pleasant emotions. The purpose of this paper was to examine the verbal expression of anger in Croatian comedy films and also to find textual and prosodic elements that provoke the viewer’s exhilaration. In the center of our interest is the use of emotion-marked linguistic resources in the public discourse, and more specifically in the Croatian political public sphere. As politics is traditionally considered a place from chich emotions should be expelled and where rationality is that characteristic which comes first in state administration, the question is where do political statements draw their emotional value and what is its role, i.e. if it occurs by accident or it is based on the speaker’s intention. In this paper, we will try to answer those questions, taking into account previous reflections on emotions. In the center of our interest is the use of emotion-marked linguistic resources in the public discourse, and more specifically in the Croatian political public sphere. Rezijanščina: geneolingvistična in sociolingvistična opredelitev

The article presents a genealogical and sociolinguistic classification of Slavic idioms, drawing on the example of Resian. Resian is an autochthonous idiom, spoken in the Resia Valley (Ital. Val Resia), which belongs to the Municipality of Resia (Rozajanski kumün, Ital. Comune di Resia) within the Province of Udine (Ital. Provincia di Udine) in Friuli–Venezia Giulia, an autonomous Italian region. The genealogical linguistics studies the genealogical relationship between idioms and on the basis of the nature of their mutual relationship establishes their genealogical classification. In this respect, Resian must be viewed as a dialect of Slovene. Sociolinguistics, on the other hand, tends to view languages as systems of communication and on the basis of different spheres of usage assigns their sociolinguistic classification. From the latter viewpoint, Resian can be defined as a literary/standard microlanguage within Slovene, which due to the absence of the Slovene standard language is put into the role of the local literary language with a rather limited scope of functional varieties. The article presents a genealogical and sociolinguistic classification of Slavic idioms, drawing on the example of Resian.
