This article is the first attempt in Poland to examine the following issues in The Book of Una, the novel by Faruk Šehić: the problems of autobiographic memory, war trauma, going through the trauma situation in a creation process (autobiography as a symbol of individual identity and an attempt to overcome the stressor). The analysis drew attention to the category of a journey into the depths of one’s self within the so-called past life regression present in the work by this Bosnian author. In the course of the examination, it was revealed that the intimate contact established by and between the protagonist with the important figures from his childhood, sentimental objects, the aquatic element, plant world and places of playing, adventure and shelter has a therapeutic dimension. The aforementioned issues were studied with the use of a set of scientific tools in the area of anthropology of culture (abjective experiences and objects, symbolism of blood, category of childhood), theory of trauma, hypnology and hyperesthesia, polemology, humanistic psychiatry, Bachelard’s theory of poetic image, topoanalysis and poetics of the elements. The process of interpretation also included the Jungian concept of structure of personality known as the Shadow archetype. The reviewed book is the eleventh in the series devoted to the “Culture of the First Polish Republic in dialogue with Europe. Hermeneutics of values”. This series is the aftermath of an interesting research project, whose aim is both to comprehensively present the cultural relations of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with Europe, as well as to recognize the ways and forms of mutual communication of literary, aesthetic, political and religious values. In addition, it aims to present in a broad comparative context the structure of Early Modern culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Apart from the introduction, the book contains the dissertations of 11 authors originating from various scientific centers in Poland and abroad (Toruń, Białystok, Vilnius, Venice, Padua, Cracow, Poznań, Rzeszów) and representing different research specialties: philology, history, and history of art. The general and primary goal of the text it is to analyze various aspects of the Ruthenian culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, both in its dynamic connection with the Polish-Latin culture and the processes occurring in Eastern European Orthodoxy after the fall of the Byzantine Empire and in connection with the strengthening of the Moscow state. The key issues developed in the volume relate essentially to: values of the Ruthenian culture, some of which coincide or are identical to those recognized by Western-Polish citizens of the Commonwealth, while depend on the centuries old tradition of Eastern-Christian culture. The articles focuses on the values displayed in the Orthodox and Uniate spheres and around the polemics between them, punching with axiological arguments. The most frequently and basic problems that were raised are: determinants of identity, faith (religion), language (languages), social status, origin; the policy of rulers, the problem of ecclesiastical jurisdiction; tradition and change in culture – biblical studies, patristics, liturgy, theology; printing, translations, education; apologetics and polemics, preaching, iconography; a renewal program for the clergy that was to become the vanguard of the renewal of the entire Eastern Church; Bazylian Uniate ( Greek- Catholic) clergy: the idea of cultural integration, education, translation and publishing. The reviewed book is the eleventh in the series devoted to the “Culture of the First Polish Republic in dialogue with Europe. In 16th–17th-century’s liturgical books one can find numerous additions regarded as redundant and optional. These paratextual elements are: verbal (e.g., prefaces, dedicational verses or letters, afterwords, introductions), iconic (schemas, illustrations) and both combined. Unnecessary materials in printed liturgiarions apart from the above-mentioned are: teachings of Jan Chrysostom, Basil the Great and Gregory Dialogos – the authors of Divine Liturgy and the short eulogistic compositions about Church Fathers, sometimes accompanied by their images. These additional elements are great evidence of development of liturgical practice, documents certifying intellectual level of Ruthenian clergy and renovating ambitions of hierarchy. For this reason, they should be widely considered as worthy sources in the study about religion reform in the Metropolitanate of Kiev and of a church culture in old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In 16th–17th-century’s liturgical books one can find numerous additions regarded as redundant and optional. The Slavonic version of the homily dedicated to The (Cursed) Fig-Tree and the Parable of the Vineyard by John Damascene has not been so far object of an archeographic-textological study. The present study gives the initial observations on the reception of that Byzantine work in Mediaeval Slavonic Literature. The work centred mainly on the South Slavonic manuscript tradition, while the East Slavonic manuscript tradition represented by the text from the well-known Uspensky Miscellany was used as a starting point and as a basis for comparison during the analysis. The study showed that in Mediaeval Slavonic Literature the homily dedicated to The (Cursed) Fig-Tree and the Parable of the Vineyard by John Damascene has been disseminated through three different Slavonic translations, one redaction, and one contaminated version. The Slavonic version of the homily dedicated to The (Cursed) Fig-Tree and the Parable of the Vineyard by John Damascene has not been so far object of an archeographic-textological study. The collection of Hussite chronicles called Old Czech Annals contains more than thirty manuscripts some of which have been left out of the research spotlight. One of them is the Czech written text F (called “of Stockholm”) from the second half of the 15th century, currently stored under the signature G 10, no. 432 in the Moravian Municipal Archive in Brno, nevertheless, until 1878, it had been held in Stockholm as a spoil. The text F describes the course of events on the Czech territory from the years 1393 to 1453. Particular emphasis is laid on the events taking place during the Hussite revolution (after 1419) narrated, from the perspective of moderate Utraquism, by an anonymous Prague chronicler. Even though he, in his descriptions, consciously evades to include his evaluation of the events, striving for being an objective and impartial, unbiased observer, it is possible, at times, to read his attitude and opinion from his language rendering, which we instantiate with citations from the manuscript. A copy of the manuscript was acquired during its brief borrowing from Sweden to Prague in 1819 by Václav Hanka (1791–1861), a prominent representative of the Czech National Revival. The copy is stored in the National Museum Library, signature III F 9.The collection of Hussite chronicles called Old Czech Annals contains more than thirty manuscripts some of which have been left out of the research spotlight. Paper focuses on a poem Mlad užežen u ljubavi, preserved in an early manuscript by Dubrovnikʼs merchant Miho Martellini, created before 1657. This is the most erotic začinka-poem of the 17th century, inspired by the so called cushion customs. The above mentioned poem is a part of a corpus created parallel with the official literary production, and its existence demonstrates the stratification of the 17th century literature, and marks the existence of thematically and stylistically pure folk literature, together with epics, epic poems, tragedies and tragicomedies. That sort of literature didnʼt have to change the readers, to instruct them in virtuous life, not even to give them some aesthetic pleasure. Its purpose was primarily entertainment.Paper focuses on a poem Mlad užežen u ljubavi, preserved in an early manuscript by Dubrovnikʼs merchant Miho Martellini, created before 1657.
