Społeczno-kulturowe ramy pamięci w działaniach Towarzystwa Gimnastycznego „Sokół” na terenie Niemiec przełomu XIX i XX wieku

The article offers a new perspective on the role of the Sok.ł Gymnastic Society in the circles of Polish immigrants in Germany at the turn of the 20th century, presenting examples of Sok.ł’s activity in numerous places (including Berlin, Leipzig, Bochum) and the variety of forms of presentation used (poetry – song – drama; cultural performances). The theoretical considerations are preceded by a brief discussion of the history of the movement, with particular emphasis on the specificity of Sok.ł’s activities in the areas under Prussian rule. The use of new methodologies and studies of cultural memory and the categories of myth made it possible to reconstruct the social and cultural framework of memory. The analysis may be an incentive to revise the common views, allowing one to ask questions about the place and the role of collective memory, about the media of memory or the meaning of the phonic space

Niemiecko-polski konflikt o Górny Śląsk w latach 1918–1922 w perspektywie wybranych powieści autobiograficznych Ernsta von Salomona

The German–Polish conflict about Upper Silesia from 1918–1922, which is one of the most important historical and political issues in the literary work of Ernst von Salomon, particularly in his autobiographical novels, is briefly analysed in the context of his turbulent biography, his work and autobiographical strategies. In von Salomon’s novels, the sheer conflict seen as a fight over new frontiers in Central and Eastern Europe in 1918–1922 becomes a subjective narration which results, to a large extent, from his involvement in the postulates of the German national revolution as one of the trends of the Conservative Revolution in Germany between 1918 and 1933. At the end of the paper, this conflict in Salomon’s literary perspective is briefly analysed around key issues based on selected examples from his autobiographical novels. The German–Polish conflict about Upper Silesia from 1918–1922, which is one of the most important historical and political issues in the literary work of Ernst von Salomon, particularly in his autobiographical novels, is briefly analysed in the context of his turbulent biography, his work and autobiographical strategies.
