I sensi e la conoscenza in Cartesio

    No full text

    No full text

    No full text
While it may seem odd to expect a proper “political theology” from Bayle, his work is a perfect viewpoint from which to analyze the relationship between religion and politics within the context of the European wars of religion. This paper takes into consideration the evolution of Bayle’s position, with regard to two key concepts: the “religion du serment”, that is, the subject’s duty to obey his legitimate ruler, in spite of their different faith, and the “religion du souverain”, that is, the sovereign’s duty to follow, as Henry IV did, a principle of “raison d’État”, rather than his own private beliefs

    No full text
On the occasion of Hans Blumenberg’s arguments in his book The Legitimacy of the Modern Age, which did not accept the theses set forth in Political Theology, Carl Schmitt, in the afterword to Political Theology II, returns to the question of the legitimacy of the Gesamtordnung by insistently relating it to the entire conceptual constellation of his thought. The first part of the paper will briefly reconstruct what meaning Schmitt gives to the lemma Political Theology and in what sense the secularisation of modern political concepts plays a central role in it. The second part will attempt to understand why the text attracted criticism from Blumenberg, and why according to him secularisation is primarily a linguistic problem indicating a gap in semantic function. Finally, the last part will analytically trace Schmitt’s response to the German philosopher: it will be seen how the jurist not only reiterates how it is not possible to eliminate transcendence from the modern political horizon, but how the political categories themselves are intimately affected by the ineradicable question of enmity, which can only be grasped through fundamental questioning of the origin of theological-political concepts. As much as it takes the form of an “impossible dialogue”, since both remain firm on their positions, the confrontation between Schmitt and Blumenberg is a precious testimony of how necessary it is to confront the problem of transcendence in the production of the political order

Artists Refusing to Work: Aesthetics Practices in 1970s Italy

    Get PDF
This essay will explore how radical art practices intersected with political activist stances during the 1970s in art projects situated in the urban environment that actively engaged audience participation. Artists’ abandonment of institutional art spaces prompted them to expand their art practice into the city’s streets and piazzas. Three specific artists projects will be analyzed in relation to Autonomia’s alternative critical attitudes: Ugo La Pietra’s Conquista dello spazio (Conquest of Space) created in Milan in 1971, Franco Summa’s NO carried out in Pescara’s city center in 1974, and Maurizio Nannucci’s Parole/mots/word/wöter from 1976.This essay will explore how radical art practices intersected with political activist stances during the 1970s in art projects situated in the urban environment that actively engaged audience participation. Una donna sola (A woman alone). Franca Rame and language as an instrument of subjection and emancipation

Alessandra Marfoglia writes a case study of feminist politics in the theatrical monologues of actress/activist/playwright Franca Rame, specifically “Una donna sola” from Tutta casa, letto e chiesa (1977), co-written with her professional and life partner Dario Fo. Reading this work against both the theater’s expansion into the realm of social experience (Grotowski) and performance art’s pursuit of self-awareness through live action (Settimana della Performance, Bologna, 1977), Marfoglia argues that Rame’s work similarly aims to liberate the female body from oppressively gendered representation by attacking social and linguistic structures in the plot of the monologue.Alessandra Marfoglia writes a case study of feminist politics in the theatrical monologues of actress/activist/playwright Franca Rame, specifically “Una donna sola” from Tutta casa, letto e chiesa (1977), co-written with her professional and life partner Dario Fo.

    No full text
This paper discusses the essay H.P. Lovecraft. Against the World, Against Life by Michel Houellebecq. By comparing it with recent developments in biographical research on the American writer, the paper highlights how Houellebecq deliberately misrepresented some aspects of Lovecraft’s biography in order to turn him into a character akin to those of Houellebecq’s first novels, and into a literary model.

Direct-to-Consumer Neurotechnologies Under the Framework of WTO Agreements

    No full text
The emerging possibility of incorporating neurotechnologies into products and services that are directly accessible on the market offers new avenues of research. To the best of our knowledge, this article is the first attempt to investigate how the rules of the multilateral trading system can help regulators respond to the challenges posed by these new products and services in the global markets.  The study discusses whether the rules of the WTO allow governments to block potentially harmful DTC neurodevices from accessing their internal market; suggests that the rules for standardization and technology transfer may play a positive role in this context; proposes a potential role of the WTO institutional framework in the governance of neurotechnologies. The emerging possibility of incorporating neurotechnologies into products and services that are directly accessible on the market offers new avenues of research. The paper examines the Italian Constitutional Court’s decision of January 28, 2021, no. 32, from a rhetorical perspective, focusing on textuality, syntax, lexicon, and argumentation. The study operates on three levels: first, it addresses legal language and the relationship between language and law; second, it explores the rhetorical perspective, defining rhetoric and its techniques within the contemporary debate; third, it analyzes the rhetorical concept of kairòs in the judgment. This approach highlights the interplay between rhetoric and legal decision-making, offering a comprehensive understanding of the court’s reasoning.
