Racism and discrimination in healthcare: what role for bioethics?

    No full text
The objective of this paper is twofold. Firstly, the different forms of racism and discrimination in healthcare are explored and framed in a three-level analysis which includes practices, policies, and knowledge. Secondly, the paper translates such analysis into the current bioethics debates to provide an overview of the possible tools and strategies bioethics can put in place to mitigate and contrast racism and discrimination in healthcare. This is meant to stimulate a higher awareness among the bioethics community about the role that we as scholars and our discipline as a field of knowledge can play in fighting racism and discrimination in healthcare, which in turn is fundamental to contribute to more just, inclusive and equitable healthcare systems and societies. &nbsp

The paper analyses the evolution of domestic regulation in rectifying the attribution of sex provided by Law No. 164 of April 14, 1982, in light of the most recent rulings of the Constitutional Court. In view of the progressive elimination of the requirement for medical-surgical intervention for the legal recognition of gender identity, the paper addresses the relevance of psychological and social gender affirmation processes for rectification purposes, as well as the new need to protect non-binary individuals, arguing for the necessity of legislative intervention to introduce a third gender in civil status registration, in accordance with the personalist principle that underpins the legal system.

    No full text
The essay addresses the legal, ethical, and social implications of sharing images of sick minors online, in light of personality rights and parental responsibility. The publication of content – by parents, healthcare professionals, or organizations – depicting children in states of suffering raises complex issues regarding the protection of their identity, privacy, and dignity. The contribution considers the need to balance adults’ freedom of expression with the best interests of the minor, reviewing established jurisprudential guidelines and analyzing critical aspects related to commercial exploitation and instrumentalization within the context of fundraising and public awareness campaigns. The experience of the project “IMA-GO! Share Them with Care!” promoted by Fondazione Maruzza is as an example of normative nudging aimed at increasing awareness about the protection of childhood in the digital space. L’esperienza del progetto “IMA-GO! Condividile con Cura!” promosso da Fondazione Maruzza costituisce, in particolare, un esempio di nudging normativo volto ad incrementare la consapevolezza in ordine alla tutela dell’infanzia nello spazio digitale

Platone e la storia dell’Occidente nell’interpretazione di Heidegger e Severino

This contribution intends to analyze the readings of Platonic philosophy offered by Heidegger and Severino, trying to bring out the similarities and differences characterizing the two perspectives, and the theoretical motivations that underlie the respective positions. This will be done considering the weight they both assign to the influence Plato had in the history, and the various reasons for which such legacy has been realized. This contribution intends to analyze the readings of Platonic philosophy offered by Heidegger and Severino, trying to bring out the similarities and differences characterizing the two perspectives, and the theoretical motivations that underlie the respective positions.

The article aims to analyse the interpretation of Martin Heidegger proposed by the philosopher Alberto Caracciolo. In particular, the essay focuses on the ethical-religious reception of Heideggerian philosophy, with special regard to Alberto Caracciolo’s overall philosophical proposal. As outlined in his 1989 comprehensive volume, Studi heideggeriani, Caracciolo never ceased to dialogue with the German philosopher, but rather interpreted him as a classic of the religious thinking in contemporary times, i.e. of the age of nihilism. This allows the interpreter to investigate, also in a kulturgeschichtlich direction, the significance of the Heideggerian reception in Alberto Caracciolo’s ethical-religious Denkweg. The article aims to analyse the interpretation of Martin Heidegger proposed by the philosopher Alberto Caracciolo. In this paper, I consider Rosmini’s reception of Wolff’s ontological and practical notions of perfection, in order to show that Rosmini was inspired to some degree by Wolff. Firstly, I examine Wolff’s and Rosmini’s ontological notions of perfection. Secondly, I analyse Wolff’s practical notion of perfection and his influence on Rosmini’s practical philosophy. The focus will be on the notion of perfection as concordance with one’s essence and nature. In this paper, I consider Rosmini’s reception of Wolff’s ontological and practical notions of perfection, in order to show that Rosmini was inspired to some degree by Wolff. Berkeley’s Conceivability Argument, Representationalism, and the Nominalist Dismissal of Metaphysics

The purpose of my paper is to address the notion of experience, that is, the domain of discourse on the relationship of minds to the world. The mainstream vocabulary developed to handle such a relationship relies on representations. I will defend an empiricist standpoint by raising doubts on the heuristic value of this widely shared assumption. In a basic sense, metaphysics is involvement in nonexperiential entity stipulation. My key claim is that representationalism is a typical metaphysical doctrine because posits nonexperiential entities. My starting point is the very succinct argument by Zeno which is reported by Plato at the beginning of Parmenides. I will reconstruct it as a challenge to any kind of pluralist ontology. In the second section, I will give a cursory account of examples of representationalist doctrines. I will argue that representationalism originates from the need of answering Zeno’s challenge. In the third section, I will provide a structured overview of Berkeley’s immaterialism. His doctrine is a package of three logically independent blocks: i. a refusal of representationalism; ii. an ontology of mental states; iii. a nominalist account of universals. As such it addresses traditional issues about minds and the world that involve belief justification, semantic concerns about the content of mental states, and the nature of objects. In the fourth section, I will address Berkeley’s conceivability argument against representations. I will show how it engages with open issues in contemporary debates. In the fifth section, I will supplement Berkeley’s criticism of representations with his views on contents. In the final section, I will summarize why empiricism constitutes an alternative to metaphysics

Un saggio sulla libertà in Antonio Rosmini

The coincidence of two anniversaries – the thesis of Antonio Rosmini, and the anniversary of the founding of the University of Padua – has become the occasion for the convention on freedom in the intellectual pattern of Antonio Rosmini. Many items have been developed such as biography, history, juridical rights, policy, property. Rosminian thought, anyway, reaches its highpoint in the concept of person, where any real power is highlighted by and based on metaphysical freedom. The coincidence of two anniversaries – the thesis of Antonio Rosmini, and the anniversary of the founding of the University of Padua – has become the occasion for the convention on freedom in the intellectual pattern of Antonio Rosmini.

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to highlight some possible applications of Steinian empathy in education. Starting from “becoming aware” of the original core through empathic experience, we will try to demonstrate how trainees can be guided by the trainer towards learning a particular form of listening – which we will call “suspensive” – and towards an awareness of the interrelatedness that links each core to the other. In this experience of the other that leads back to the Self, we will finally see as a further application of Steinian empathy the possibility of self-training as a work of social training where each individual, although different from every other, has equal rights to the expression and realisation of their particular embodied personality. The aim of this paper is to highlight some possible applications of Steinian empathy in education.
