The aim of this article is to explain the various aspects of the right to culture within the obligations contained in the ECRML. The presentation discusses the issues of cultural products, institutions, participation, linguistic landscape and intangible heritage. Consequently it is clear that the cultural dimension is present across various domains of public life covered by the Charter because its fundamental objective is to foster minority culture as part of life of a community, rather than just an aspect of folklore to be displayed in a museum. The aim of this article is to explain the various aspects of the right to culture within the obligations contained in the ECRML. Full text link
Intercultural differences in discourse patterns have been considered the most important cause of communication problems. It is less certain if these differences are relevant for talk participants in handling communication problems in intercultural interactions. The aim of the case study presented in this paper is observing if talk participants orient to intercultural differences in discourse patterns and what knowledge of these differences they have. I use ethnomethodological approach in analyzing the interaction of Polish students with their Chinese interlocutor. The interactions is an interview conducted in English as a lingua franca. I also conduct an ethnographic interview with the Polish speakers to study their knowledge concerning communication problems which appeared in their interactions with the Chinese speaker. Analyzing the ethnographic interview as interaction, I focus on the content co-construed by the interview participants

The objective of the present article is to analyse the influence of the organisation Translators Without Borders on the status of its volunteers: translators and community interpreters. The first chapter concerns main aspects of the translator\u27s status. The second one presents briefly the types of Translators Without Borders activities, while the next one focuses on the characteristics of the types of translator\u27s and interpreter\u27s work  for the organization. The last chapter includes the analysis of the translator\u27s and interpreter\u27s status aspects that are susceptible to impact of the described organization’s  activities. Conclusions are ambiguous as the main reason of the Translators Without Borders foundation was not to improve the translator\u27s status. However, membership may be beneficial under certain conditions

Sposoby wykorzystania napisów scenicznych jako metody przekładu spektakli teatralnych w trakcie Malta Festival Poznań 2017

As a result of the internationalization of theatrical art and the development of modern technologies, surtitles are currently one of the most frequently used methods of theater translation. The diversity of solutions currently proposed by theaters around the world entails the necessity of development of the common rules of the creation of surtitles. This role is to be fulfilled by the French rulebook prepared by the by the drama institute Maison Antoine Vitez, entitled "Guide du sur-titrage au théâtre" (Bataillon, Muhleisen, Diez, 2016). The following analysis is based on examples of the use of surtitles from four performances presented during the Malta Festival 2017 in Poznań. Its purpose will be to answer the question: to what extent the surtitles used during the Polish festival of theater are in compliance with the norms suggested by authors of“Guide du sur-titrage au théâtre” (2016)

Language identity and cultural memory in borderland areas. A survey-based research with aged respondents (seniors)

The article presents methodological and practical experiences of an inter-university research project “Language of boundaries – Boundaries of language. Paralinguistic aspects of intercultural communication”, one of project tasks being conducting interviews with Polish and German senior respondents. The project aims were, among others, to investigate linguistic and cultural awareness, the sense of proximity/alienness with the culture and the others in the transborder area and the processes of mutual accommodation. In this context, senior respondents are a particularly precious target group in language contact studies as they are witnesses of linguistic identity and cultural memory. The interviews took place in the Polish-German border region of Frankfurt/Oder and Słubice. The respondents were asked questions included in a questionnaire that was especially prepared for the purpose. The questions included among other things questions about the respondents’ origins, professional life, education, daily habits, languages spoken by them, attitudes towards the other cultural group. The authors have not only presented theoretical basics of transborder studies, accommodation processes and age studies, but they have also given practical tips on what should be considered when doing interviews with the elderly. The article includes a summary of the answers given by the two groups of the respondents. With the article, the authors intend to contribute methodologically to future socio- and gerontolinguistic studies. The research was carried out as part of the project Język pogranicza – pogranicze języka. Parajęzykowe aspekty komunikacji międzykulturowej (UMO: No. 0106 / NPRH3 / H12 / 82/2014) financed by the National Program for the Development of Humanities. The article presents methodological and practical experiences of an inter-university research project “Language of boundaries – Boundaries of language. Greek meets Turkish at the western edge of Asia: Case markers and complementizers under language contact

We investigate case and clausal complementation systems in Cunda Turkish spoken in Western Turkey by refugees relocated from Crete (Greece) in and after 1923. Unlike Standard Turkish, Cunda Turkish exhibits unpredictable dative–locative and dative–accusative shifts. We claim these shifts are due to interference of the heritage language, Cretan Greek. Cunda Turkish subordination patterns also differ from those of the standard variety. Contrary to the case in Standard Turkish, nominalizing suffixes are employed only when selecting (matrix) predicates are non-factive veridical ones. Non-veridical predicates, on the other hand, select subordinate clauses that are in optative mood, a preexisting Turkish pattern which has nevertheless been reinforced by Cretan Greek impact. Finally, clauses that are complements to factive predicates are indicative clauses headed by an optional complementizer, a pattern which is extended to these clauses from factive adverbial clauses. We investigate case and clausal complementation systems in Cunda Turkish spoken in Western Turkey by refugees relocated from Crete (Greece) in and after 1923.
