EinFach Logistik. Nauczanie niemieckiego języka logistyki – źródła inspiracji oraz nowe wyzwania dla logistyków i germanistów
Driven by sociolinguistic inspirations, the authors make an attempt to assess the teaching of German logistics language in Poland for professional purposes against a broadly understood logistic education and emphasize the aspect of close correlation of the linguistic training outcome with the labor market demand. The intention of the authors is to highlight an important component of the education environment, namely the need to interrelate the proper content-oriented knowledge with linguistic skills of the logistic secondary school students and the university level students dealing with logistics.Driven by sociolinguistic inspirations, the authors make an attempt to assess the teaching of German logistics language in Poland for professional purposes against a broadly understood logistic education and emphasize the aspect of close correlation of the linguistic training outcome with the labor market demand. Języki regionalne w systemie narodowej edukacji Indonezji: Studia porównawcze nad programami nauczania języka jawajskiego, sundajskiego i dajak
Indonesian language has been a lingua franca between 1.128 ethnical groups speaking 746 regional languages and dialects, living in the Republic of Indonesia. The domination of Indonesian language in daily practice, the emerging popularity of foreign languages and the change in socio-economic condition have adverse impacts to the existence of regional languages. By 2007 about 35% of those languages are believed to be disappearing. Some ethnical groups with large population succeeded developing their languages through elaborate standardization, better teaching programs and rich literary works. Since 2004 government and linguists have been working on ef-fective regional languages teaching and promotion pro-grams. As the educational policy lies in the hand of pro-vincial government, new strategies have been implemented to incorporate regional language teaching into local content subjects within elementary, secondary and high schools respectively. In this paper the author will show a comparison study between teaching programs of Javanese, Sundanese and Dayak languages.Indonesian language has been a lingua franca between 1.128 ethnical groups speaking 746 regional languages and dialects, living in the Republic of Indonesia. Vocative Interjections in Address Forms in Bhojpuri: A Study of Honorifics
The present study examines the use of vocative interjections in the address forms and the politeness strategies that could be correlated with the sociocultural variables such as age, gender, kinship, social status, and educational achievements. Toward the end of this study, a situational analysis of the use of the vocative interjections and politeness strategies will also be provided. Since address forms are an important aspect of the interpersonal communication, they manifest both the identity and the status of the speaker and the person addressed (Mehrotra 1986: 80). In this paper, emphasis is put on the speaker’s choice of vocative interjection to mark the different honorific level. It will also purport how sociocultural variables affect the choice of vocative interjection in the address forms. The present study examines the use of vocative interjections in the address forms and the politeness strategies that could be correlated with the sociocultural variables such as age, gender, kinship, social status, and educational achievements. Endangered languages in public outreach: Lessons for linguists
Linguists who collaborate with communities of speakers of endangered languages emphasize that it is often very practical matters such as the availability of resources or the political conditions in which they conduct fieldwork that influence their work the most. This article shows that linguists acting for the sake of endangered languages in a totally different environment, i.e. at European schools with students and teachers who usually are not familiar with the topic of language endangerment, may face similar challenges. I report on the results of a public outreach project aimed at raising awareness of language endangerment among secondary school communities in four European countries, and focus on Poland in particular. Three parallels with linguistic fieldwork are drawn in this article which are to illustrate that similarly to language documentation and revitalization projects, in public outreach enterprises the goals and views of external linguists may be radically different from those of the non-linguist parties involved. Mundane as they may seem, issues such as teachers’ working conditions need to be understood and properly addressed by linguists who wish to effectively bring their message about endangered languages across to the general public
Percepcja audytywna, właściwości akustyczne oraz cechy dystrybucyjne sylab w języku polskim
This paper presents experiments concerning properties of selected CV syllables. Acoustic speech signal related to particular syllables was analyzed using artificial neural networks. The goal of the analyses was to investigate whether realizations of particular syllables retain acoustic features distinctive of these syllables. Aditionally, a perception test aiming at identification of the same syllable set was carried out. In the test we analyzed to which degree it is possible to identify syllables isolated from the linguistic context. The paper discusses also results on distributional properties of syllables which indicate that such properties may play a significant role in speech perception. This paper presents experiments concerning properties of selected CV syllables. Rozrachunek z wiecznymi lingwistycznymi antynomiami: analogia–anomalia, forma–znaczenie, paradygmatyczny–syntagmatyczny, synchronia–diachronia w dzisiejszej węgierskiej gramatyce przypadka
After the liberation of Hungarian linguistics in the 19th century from the restrictive descriptive paradigm of ancient and mediaeval times, dogmatizing the properties of the Latin language as omni-valid, Hungarian gram-marians seem to have gone on to adopt another doctrine that obscured certain essential properties of the semantic, morpho-syntactic and morphological structure of the Hungarian language. The case of the controversial so-called endingless accusative (cf. Várom a fiam ‘I am expecting my son’) reveals their methodological inclinations, which evidently favored an analogical, formal, paradigmatic and (implicitly) diachronizing approach at the expense of a balanced – and in the view of the author of this article more suitable – approach which would also take account of anomalous, semantic, syntagmatic and purely synchronic phenomena.
Poza strukturalizm. Hybrydy leksykalne w świetle gramatyki kognitywnej
The article is an attempt at interpretation of traditional structural word formation according to cognitive grammar. Exploration field is concentrated on lexical hybrids with English element in Polish language. The research on hybrids essence reveals their semiotic nature. Traditional and structural point of view is not enough to show all aspects of these kind of words, therefore new instruments are needed. New way of description hybrid phenomena is offered by the cognitive grammar. Cognitive grammar possibilities let investigate hybrids with English element in an interesting way, which is not usually used in traditional word formation. The analysis also shows how important are semantics and linguistics awareness in the creation of new words.Beyond structuralism. Lexical hybrids in the light of cognitive grammarArtykuł jest próbą interpretacji zagadnień słowotwórstwa hybryd leksykalnych z elementem angielskim w języku polskim z wykorzystaniem gramatyki kognitywnej na tle tradycyjnego słowotwórstwa strukturalnego.
Rytm w perspektywach: lingwistycznej i neurobiologicznej
This article is about rhythm from the linguistic and neurobiological perspectives. Comparing data from both domains could enable clarification of (long–term) confusion in acoustic and conceptual ideas of rhythm as well as providing a multidimensional definition of this category with solid neurobiological grounding and taking aspects of modeling speech production into consideration. This article is about rhythm from the linguistic and neurobiological perspectives. Przysłowia ludowe i ich kontekst kulturowy w odniesieniu do żywności i żywienia w arabskich dialektach Āzaẖ i Mārdīn
This draft is an attempt to group and analyze the content of maxims, expressions, utterances, phrases, aphorisms and formulations which refer – directly or indirectly – to agriculture and raising animals as well as to the widely understood traditions and the culture of feeding among the inhabitants of the two ancient Assyrian towns in southeastern Turkey: Āzaẖ and Mārdīn. This type of folk prose is very popular in the Middle East. Even though the procurement of food and the preparation of meals belong likely to the most important human cares and take most of the time particularly of the populations living in villages, the group of proverbs concerning the analyzed topic in each collection is only about 8% of the total.
