The Language of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”. A Paratextual, Rhetorical Analysis of One of the World\u27s Best-Known Conspiracy Theories This bachelor thesis examines linguistic strategies of German-language prefixed paratexts of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”. By means of close reading, it shows how lexis and rhetoric are used to convince readers of a 100-year-old structureless and inconsistent text – for example by the use of conspiracy-theory vocabulary and the presentation of supposed credibility and transparency. The interest in the persuasive content of the text arises from a philological approach and shall show how language can be used for manipulative purposes.   Der Wortlaut der Arbeit ist auf E-Mail-Anfrage bei der Redaktion bestellbar: [email protected]

Austrian Arms Exports to the Global South. The Discourse About Tank Exports in Public Service Broadcasting In the 1970s and 1980s, the Austrian arms industry sold a high proportion of their production to authoritarian regimes and dictatorships in the Global South. If these arms exports, especially tank sales, came to public attention it resulted in a storm of indignation, criticism, and protest. This bachelor thesis examines the reasons for the great public interest in these exports and analyses the discourses as well as arguments for and against the arms deals by looking at radio broadcasts. Radio broadcasts as source material are especially interesting, since they provide supposedly objective reporting independent of political biases

A Media- Historical Discourse Analysis The following paper contributes to topical research on migration and media. Utilizing the methodological framework of historical discourse analysis, it analyses and compares reports on immigration and flight to the First Republic published in five Austrian newspapers – the “Arbeiter-Zeitung”, “Reichspost“, “Deutsches Volksblatt“, “Neue Freie Presse“ and “Innsbrucker Nachrichten“ – directly after World War I and the disintegration of the Habsburg monarchy between late 1918 and 1919. As will be shown, one cannot make generalized statements about the press coverage on immigration and flight during the period of investigation. The discourse was determined by the political and ideological orientation of a newspaper, its target audience and the sub-topics of the discourse
