Der Zwerg auf dem Teppich. Überlegungen zu Turold am Teppich von Bayeux
The Dwarf on the Tapestry. Considerations on Turold on the Bayeux Tapestry
This paper tries to show that the common Norman name Turold as depicted in scene ten of the Bayeux Tapestry refers to the person holding the reigns of the horses and was likely affected by dwarfism. Compared to the other one-time-only names in the artwork and combining different research opinions on those, it is argued that this highlighted character may have been an informant for the unknown artist(s) of the tapestry regarding the travels of Harold Godwinson in north-west France and everything concerning horses while others testified about the military action at Hastings

Musik im transatlantischen Sklavenhandel. Der Einfluss von Musik auf das Gemeinschaftsgefühl versklavter Personen
Music in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Influence of Music on Enslaved People’s Sense of Community
The following paper examines the impact that music had on enslaved people’s sense of community in the context of the transatlantic slave trade. Based on various academic papers and books as well as one autobiography published by a former slave and a travel report by a British author, this paper infers that enslaved people either voluntarily utilized music in various contexts, or they were coerced to do so on request of their slave holders. However, the latter hardly affects the fact that music positively influenced the enslaved people’s sense of belonging to the group
Inszenierung in den Alpen. „Völkerschauen“ in Tirol in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts
Staging in the Alps: “Ethnographic Exhibitions” in Tyrol in the First Half of the 20th Century
This bachelor’s thesis examines the phenomenon of “ethnographic exhibitions” in Tyrol from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. By analyzing 29 newspaper articles from the Tyrolean press, the study investigates the organization, commercialization, and societal impacts of these events. Using qualitative content analysis, it addresses cultural commodification, scientific discourse, exoticization, and the political context. The analysis highlights how these exhibitions reflected European stereotypes of “otherness” while contributing to the entertainment industry and reinforcing colonial narratives
On „bedauerliche Anträge einer gemischten Ehe“ – Lines of Argumentation and Practices of Catholic Clergy in the Context of Mixed Marriages before and after 1867 based on Civil Laws in Cisleithania
This paper uses original documents from the archives of the St. Jacob’s Cathedral parish to examine the arguments and actions of Catholic clergy in mixed marriages in Cisleithania before and after 1867. The legal reforms in constitutional and civil law in 1867 brought far-reaching changes to marriage law and to the relationship between the church and political rule. The effects of these legal reforms are analyzed at the micro level on the basis of parish records and presented in the context of the specific circumstances of the lives of priests and bridal couples

It analyzes the impact of his service in the Italian army on his later role in the German Wehrmacht. In addition, the family’s collective memory are compared with archival materials, considering the political context of post-war South Tyrol. The findings show that the Wehrmacht took his Italian military background into account, influencing his assigned role. Discrepancies between the family’s collective memory and archival sources emerged, rooted in South Tyrol’s post-war political circumstances

The Justification of the Italian Invasion of Ethiopia in the Newspapers “Dolomiten” and “La Provincia di Bolzano”, 1935–1936

Seven articles from “Dolomiten” and five from “La Provincia di Bolzano” were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. According to the findings, the newspaper articles utilized narratives of slavery as well as stereotypical and eroticizing representations of Ethiopian women to legitimize colonial expansion
