Friedrich II.: "Aufgeklärter Absolutismus"
Frederick II: “Enlightened Absolutism“ This paper is about the governance of the Prussian king Frederick II. It will examine how far Frederick’s governance was influenced by the philosophy of Enlightenment. As will be shown, Frederick ruled rather as a strategic monarch than as a philosopher of Enlightenment. His governance followed some of the ideas of Enlightenment only to consolidate his sovereignity. Thus Frederick’s governance cannot be called “enlightened” per se
Die sozioökonomischen Auswirkungen nationalsozialistischer Arbeitseinsatz- und Frauenpolitik in Tirol
Abstract Social and economic impacts of Nazi women’s labor policy in Tyrol The ambivalence of Nazi ideology between denigration of women as second class citizens and propagandist idealization as a mothers and housewives allows for a variety of subjective and objectified patterns of interpretation in connection with the targeted embedding of women in the labor and employment process. The importance of women and their opportunities in society in terms of theoretical versus practical classification in the reproductive and employment process allows conflicting interpretations. Women were subject to the constraint to production and reproduction, but some of them could also find self-realization and new freedoms in the working duty. The background of this ambivalence and their theoretical, economic and social impacts will be studied in the present work
Der Darfurkonflikt: Arabische und Afrikanische Identitäten
Violent disputes and wars are often explained by tensions based on ethnic or racial grounds. A prominent example is Darfur. Many believe that the origins of the conflict lie in the difference between Arabs and Africans. This paper argues that African and Arab identities have been formed and fostered in the course of the conflict by individual potentates and politically motivated interest groups. Although the African Union was established on the ideas of panafricanism it has failed to alleviate the division between Africans and Arabs
Die Rolle Großbritanniens bei der Entstehung des Religionskonflikts in Südasien und der Teilung Britisch-Indiens
The seminar-paper deals with the construction of the religious conflict in former British-India as one of the consequences of the implementation of population census by the colonial power of Great Britain. It examines how this cleavage through the society – also known as communalism – developed and deepened since its beginning until the independence of British-India and its division in Pakistan and India in 1948 as well as its aftermath for the local population. The crucial role of the colonial rule of Great Britain will be regarded in the context of the whole development
Hegemony and Slavery The Spartacus Uprising between social control and strategies of liberation
This seminar-paper deals with slavery in the late-republican Roman Empire, in particular during the Spartacus uprising from 71 to 73 BC. It questiones how slavery as a social system could work and which mechanisms and strategies were necessary to establish this institution. To illuminate this case, the paper analyses consenting, regulative and repressing arrangements between the slaves and slave-holders. Furthermore it shows, related to the partly successful Spartacus uprising, the difficulties for the slaves to overcome the different mechanisms of hegemony
The following bachelor thesis highlights and expounds the problems of the usage of history as a political argument. After giving a short summary of the history of the FPÖ I will therefore examine the history policy of the Austrian FPÖ under the leadership of Jörg Haider (* 1950; † 2008) by analyzing the party’s actions during three important events in post war Austria: the Waldheim Affair, the controversial Wehrmachtsausstellung in 1995 (German Army exhibition) and the EU-Sanctions in 2000
This diploma thesis analyzes the relationship between foreign aliens to the United States (mainly Mexican citizens) and the US-Drug-Policy concerning Mexican Immigration to the United States. The focus lies on the period between 1900 and 2012. The method of this research is on the one hand analyzing historical documents such as migration laws, acts, decrees, and not less important documents, due to their decision-involving impetus, such as historical memoirs. On the other hand, own-generated migrant’s and expert’s interviews but also a media representation analysis lie at ground of this study. The goal is to show how enemy stereotypes are constructed and influence the US-Immigration and Drug Policies.
