Papst Johannes Paul II. als Außenpolitiker im polnischen Konflikt zwischen Regierung und Arbeiterschaft 1980–1983
The following paper is about the influence Pope John Paul II. had on domestic political occasions in Poland, particularly between 1980 and 1983. His first journey to Poland was a significant impulse for further events relating to the end of the Cold War. He supported the union Solidarność and when the law of war was declared in December 1981 he asked Jaruzelski to quit it. John Pauls second visit in 1983 brought political stability back again and soon after the law of war was stopped

The Austrian Military Frontier The following paper is about the so called Austrian Military Frontier on the Balkans. It will be shown, that this Military Frontier has never been a clear line between the austrian and the ottoman empire like the Iron Curtain between the BDR and the DDR during the second half of the twentieth century. The Austrian Military Frontier has been much more than a demarcation line. It was a country in the austrian empire with a specific population and a specific life-style. Although the Military Frontier only existed until 1881, there have been some long-term effects that led directly into the Yugoslavian Civil War in the 1990s of the last century. Especially the religion of the former Military Frontiers was one of this leading effects and was caused by the establishment of the Military Frontier

The following seminar-paper compares two newspapers from different parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the early 20th century. It will examine how mass media are influenced by the state and on their part try to influence the population. This will be achieved on the basis of the analysis of six significant events in the period of 1908 – 1918. It will be shown that there was a major difference in the way the two newspapers illustrated these events
Die Rheinüberquerung der Vandalen, Alanen und Sueben – Ursachen, Datierung und Übergang
Die Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Situation zwischen Römern und Barbaren im vierten Jahrhundert und diskutiert die Ursachen und die möglichen Auslöser der Wanderung. Zur Datierung, dem wohl umstrittenste Punkt der Rheinüberquerung, werden einige Thesen vorgestellt, es wird aber auch versucht, neue Überlegungen einzubringen. In einem weiteren Schritt wird diskutiert, welche Möglichkeiten sich zur Überquerung des Rheins boten. Am Ende der Arbeit wird ein kurzer Ausblick auf das weitere Geschehen in Gallien gegeben.

The following paper is about members of the dynasty trying to influence the political events. As will be shown heir apparents often did not agree on decisions of the monarch. The focus of this paper lies on Crown Prince Rudolf and analyses the film “Kronprinz Rudolf”, directed by Robert Dornhelm in 2006. Rudolf tried to gain influence by writing newspaper articles. As will be shown his efforts were unsuccessful. Dornhelm’s film communicates a quite realistic impression on Rudolf’s intentions.
Mistra Jana Husa pamet. Die bildliche Darstellung von Jan Hus zwischen Ketzerei, Martyrium und Nationalismus.
Most of the studies of Jan Hus and his significance for the Czechs in the 19th and 20th century have only been carried out in a small number of areas. He had importance for the memorial culture in the public spatial. The first object of this research is to determine the influence of the Czech Nationalism, upon the shift in the portrayal of Jan Hus. The second is to ask about the effects on the Czech population. Taken together, these results will suggest, how Hus was reminisced by the Czechs.

The following seminar-paper is about the relation between the building of roads in the alps during the first half of the twentieth century and tourism. It will be shown that this two roads have only been built to vitalize the upper class tourism in the alps. By using local infrastructure and hotels as indicators it will be proven, that the motivation of the most tourists who came into the alps was the pure existence of this two roads and the beauty of the surrounding landscape but not for climbing on mountains. While alpine highways and roads of the present are used to achieve a touristic attraction, alpine roads of the early twentieth century have been touristic attractions themselves
