Early mycenean symbols of lions have an oriental look, so historians see an adoption from Egypt. The following bachelor thesis deals with the rule of nobles in the foreign service of the Danube Monarchy between 1809 and 1918. It not only argues with percentages, but also with the connection between title and place of employment and about social mobility. Furthermore, the reasons and motives for the remarkable high quota of aristocrats in the diplomatic corps are examined. It will be shown that the diplomatic corps remained – in spite of strong embourgeoisement in administration and officer corps – until the end of World War I a stronghold of Habsburg’s aristocracy

Dien Bien Phu is an inconspicuous place among the undulating jungle of Vietnam next to the Laotian border. On March 13th the Viet Minh started the decisive battle against the French fortress after monumental preparations and fought the former colonial power sacrificially. On May 7th the combat and the First Indochina War were settled. France experienced its Stalingrad in this lossy battle and Vietnam gained its independence, if only briefly. It is the end of a colonial empire, but the First Indochina War also marks a hot period in consideration of the Cold War

The reign of the Medici is especially looked at with prominent figures such as Lorenzo de Medici or Cosimo de Medici. The necessary institutions for this to happen are adressed as well as the forms these practices had. The ties with the pope and the church are also a part of the paper. As will be shown, the leaders of Florence often had to tolerate forms of corruption due to the nature of this italian city state

Common Magical Concepts and Late-Medieval Sorcery Trials in TyrolThe beliefs of the people in the late Middle Ages went beyond the canonical doctrine of the Catholic Church, magic performances complemented the religion and its application has played a central role in coping with everyday life. The aim of the following paper is to discuss the historical function of magical ideas in social context, their importance for everyday life and world-view, and furthermore the criminalization, legal interpretation and prosecution of „magical crimes“. The conclusion tries to offer guidelines to distinguish between socially accepted magic and criminalized sorcery on the eve of the European witch hunting era

This exposition concerns causes of change of textile industry in Vorarlberg which set in in the seventies and sustained still after the turn of the millennium. Various causes for the decrease and economic difficulties of this industry will be shown, but also the terms „specialization“ and „innovation“ as well as appearance of so called commerce and industry parks are considered as flipsides of the change of the textile industry, these aspects compose the contemporary shape oft the economic structure in Vorarlberg
