    This paper proposes an analysis of mosque conflicts in Austria by including statistics and figures of the Islam in the country itself. In order to exemplify these two topics, as well as to point out differences and similarities, three examples were chosen to illustrate the complexity of mosque conflicts. Furthermore, this paper will include the issue of Islamophobia as mosques are houses of prayer for Muslims and any uprising conflict must be seen in connection to each other

    The US invaded Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks and defeated the Taliban regime with the goal of bringing democracy to Afghanistan. However, many mistakes led to ineffective nation-building and a Taliban insurgency, drawing out the Afghanistan War for many years. Reasons include an ignorance of the country\u27s history and social structure, as well as the neoconservative approach to nation-building that was pursued by the Bush administration during Bush\u27s first presidency. Thus, not enough resources were invested into rebuilding Afghanistan and the result is not satisfactory, especially compared to more successful US efforts in nation-building

    The following seminar-paper analyzes war crimes committed by the Ishii network during World War 2. Additionally, the Nanking massacre of 1937 is briefly portrayed. To understand the cruelty of these crimes it is important to scratch beneath the surface and comprehend the motivation and the Japanese world view. Furthermore, this paper shows how Japan has been dealing with its past since the end of the war. Finally, the main aim is to explain why these Japanese war crimes should be categorized as genocide according to the UN definition

    The 19th century is - as regards urban planning - characterized by the development of infrastructure, such as schools or hospitals. These changes can also be observed in the eastern parts of the monarchy. The regional focus of this thesis lies on Czernowitz, the capital city of the Bukovina since 1849. Three institutions - the town hall, the railway station and the museum - serve as an example to show how the construction of these buildings had an impact on the social life of the residents of Czernowitz. Considerations about the economic role and importance of the middle eastern oasis of Palmyra in the context of the Roman eastward expansion Numerous publications deal with the versatile ancient oasis Palmyra, which has been known long before the destruction campaign of ISIS as ancient caravan city and long-distance trade center of the Middle East. Nevertheless, little work devoted especially on the economic importance of the old Tadmor. Therefore this bachelor thesis tries to examine Palmyras economic development from an simple oasis in the barren steppe region of present-day Syria to a leading commercial metropolis in the context of the Roman expansion between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD.

    Far right parties, organisations and movements try to usurpate youth subcultural movements. As a result, Skinheads are primarily xenophobic and racist thugs for the public and media, although this subculture in reality is very heterogeneous. But it is true that right-wing extremist Skinheads are a large part of it. Today the Autonomous Nationalists try to conquer and copy left subcultures, but much more subtle and on a broad social base. The focus of this work is the acquisition of the Skinhead subculture and the attempt to do the same at left movements by the extreme right. As an explanatory model, the Hegemony Theory of Antonio Gramsci is used here

    South Tyrolean’s Mosque conflicts since the 1990sLines of argumentation in the newspaper “Dolomiten” and “Alto Adige”  The following paper is about the perception of mosque buildings in the daily South Tyrolean newspaper, the German-language ‘Dolomiten’ and the Italian-language ‘Alto Adige’. The particle has two aims, for one, it gives an historical overview about the mosque debates in South Tyro from 1990 until today. Building on that, the paper offers an analysis, and particularly a comparison, of argumentation paradigms present in the two South Tyrolean newspapers. As will be seen, both newspaper use argumentation patterns in different kind of ways

In addition this paper tries to find out whether traces of the Walser people and their culture still exist, particularly on the example of Galtür. Does a commemorative culture in the centres of the Walser migration and settlement exist in today’s Galtür? Do people there identify themselves as Walsers? The research to answer these questions is based on literature, online newspaper databases and empirical data gathered from an interview with an elderly resident of Galtür

    The following bachelor thesis is about the Aktion T4 in Nazi Germany and its execution in the Reichsgau Tirol-Vorarlberg. Starting with an overview of the most important ideological and racial influences of the Nazis, like the social Darwinism or the theories about eugenics of the late 19th century, it focuses on the state-wide Aktion T4. From 1939 on the National Socialist regime tried to kill all persons with a mental or physical handicap. One of the main hospitals in western Austria was the Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Hall in Tirol. The paper examines the role of Hall within the whole Aktion T4
