The traumatized body and the camera lens: Reading WATI in the context of female cinematography

    No full text
This study investigates how cinematography, informed by the female gaze, functions as a medium for articulating women's trauma in the context of domestic violence, as exemplified by the short film WATI. The research utilizes a practice-based methodology, positioning the film creation process as the primary data source. The analysis centers on key still photographs, applying a descriptive-reflective approach to examine framing, lighting, blocking, and body gestures. Findings reveal that extended close-ups and asymmetrical framing foreground Wati’s body as a locus of internal experience, while low-key and underlighting accentuate the psychological dimensions of trauma. Restrictive domestic compositions and passive gestures, such as silent submission, subtly communicate resistance. The faint smile in the after-credit scene operates as a mask of trauma, inviting viewers to engage with the character’s internal wounds. Collectively, WATI advances the discourse on the female gaze by rejecting objectification and presenting the female body as a site of tension among wounds, resignation, and defiance

This article aims to identify the diction (word choice) of fictional and scientific terms created by the author in the science fiction novel The Chosen One. This novel constitutes one of the seven novels (Heptalogy of the Gamers of Galaxians) composed in serial form. The writer can create new words (neology) in the science fiction genre. According to Dejika's theory, language can keep developing through creating works in the science fiction genre. Based on the diction used by the author, the depiction of the spatial aspect of the colonial discourses can be observed. The method used in this study is the descriptive-analytic method. The result of this study shows the findings of word choice commonly used in various fields of science, such as biology, chemistry, physics, and anthropology. The author fails to build science fiction discourse because no new concepts are created in his novel. The discourse of Western Ideology remains to be present without any significant resistance. This happens because the author prioritizes Western discourse as a solution, namely the discourse represented through the past established in high sophistication

    Get PDF
The integration of intermodal transportation services is a strategic necessity for improving the quality of urban transportation services. To realize the integration of services, it should be focused on the main transportation nodes in an area, such as Poris Plawad Terminal and Batu Ceper Station in the Poris Plawad Area, Tangerang City. This study aims to evaluate and determine strategies for improving the integration of intermodal transportation services in the Poris Plawad Area. The results of this study are expected to provide consideration for stakeholders to encourage the use of public transportation and realize the successful development of the Poris Plawad Area in the future. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total sample size of 202 respondents. Respondent data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to users of transportation services at Poris Plawad Terminal and Batu Ceper Station, as well as residents who are active within a radius of 800 meters from the terminal and station. This research uses the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) methods. The results of the IPA analysis show that there are five service variables that are considered important but low-performing, so they need to be prioritized for improvement, including the provision of pedestrian crossing facilities, the provision of proper sidewalks, disturbance-free pavement quality, and access into and out of the node that is free from traffic conflicts. Recommended solutions based on TRIZ principles include building a sky bridge and closing the south entrance for access into and out of the station; building a sidewalk connected to the node that is built higher than the road surface and uses high-quality materials; placing sidewalk bollards; and permanently closing the station access point that passes through the railway level crossing. These improvements are expected to enhance accessibility, safety, and walkability, encouraging greater public transport use and aligning with the area’s Transit Oriented Development goals
