Eclesiología de Aparecida
The ecclesiology of Aparecida has as its background the developments in ecclesiology present in the different local churches and in the Latin American and Caribbean church as presented by the CELAM conferences from Medellín to Santo Domingo. With great pastoral realism, Aparecida recognizes the crisis of faith and of church affiliatio in the continent. As answer to this situation it proposes to evolve from a “Church of the Baptized” to a “Church of Disciples”, from a conservative Church to a Church in mission.

In this work we us go to raising the existing relation between the birth of the Roman Empire, the Greek Logos and the critical alternative of the God's Kingdom. It is not chance that the legitimate inheritors of the Greek imperialism, the Romans, were taking to his fullness the project initiated by the disciple of Aristotle: Alexander the Great; and it is not also chance that the justification of the conquest and the massacre realized from the logocentrismo. The theological question of interest is the relation of this logocentrismo with the christian concept of Logos. If there was watched that the utilization of the term is not completely legitimate, it would be necessary to elaborate the critique from Jesus' own tradition: the alternative to the Roman Empire, known as God's Kingdom for his followers. If the God's Kingdom could be an alternative order to the Roman, as they prove the same texts, he can continue it being to any other imperial order.

The cultural pluralism prevalent in Latin America constitutes a challenge to theology, especially if theology wants to be a part of the ongoing intercultural and interreligious dialogue. The theological reflection that such dialogues imply requires a rethinking of our understanding of the cultures and their religious expressions, and even more, a revision of the traditional ways of doing theology, as well as the need for a theological pluralism.
Estrada’s ecclesiology wants to critically and creatively receive the ecclesiology of mystery and communion of the Second Vatican Council, and tries to continue and deepen the “aggiornamento” of the Church in an ecclesiastical and socio-cultural context of transition. A specific trait of his reflection is his proposal of a theology based on Scripture and Tradition that intends to renew and to foster the identity, functions and spirituality of lay people, in the framework of pneumatic ecclesiology of communion. The author sets forth this proposal in the context of a conflictive Church situation after the Council, where the institutional structure that prevails in the Church and significant sectors of the ecclesiastical hierarchy act on the basis of an ecclesiology inherited from the counterreformation and take their legitimacy from it. That explains why the author adopts in his ecclesiology a decidedly controversial character, with the advantages and disadvantages that it may have.
