Bendición de Israel, Egipto y Asiria: Is 19,16-25
The message of Jes 19:16-25 marks the end of violence from two complemen-tary perspectives. On one hand, it situates the "end of time" at the end of the violence perpetrated by the helenized Jewish community, symbolically rep-resented by Egypt, against the faithful Jewish community alluded to with the metaphor of Judah (Jes 19:16-22). On the other hand, it shows how all of Israel, once converted, will become a divine mediation, which will mean the end of all violence among the nations, symbolized by Egypt and Assyria (Jes 19:23-25). These two perspectives synthetize the global perspective of Je-saiah's writings. The prologue, in which he chastizes the people's sin (Jes 1,2-31), reflects the vision of a divided Jewish community, represented by the mention of Judah, symbol of the faithful community, and Egypt, image of the perverted Jews (Jes 19:16-20). The main part of the book of Jesaiah speaks, among other subjects, of the conversion of the whole people to di-vine law (e.g. Jes 43:1-7). This perspective is represented by the conversion of the unfaithful Jews in Jes 19:21-22. The group of the unfaithful Jews, once converted, will join the faithful community and together they will form one assembly: all of Israel true to the Lord. Finally, all of this true community of Israel will be transformed into this mediating community which leads all na-tions, represented by Egypt and Assyria, to render homage to the Lord (Jes 19,23-25). In this sense, the text is a prelude to the epilogue, the reunion of Israel and all nations on the Sacred Mount to adore the Lord (Jes 66:18-23).El mensaje de Is 19,16-25 señala el final de la violencia desde dos perspecti-vas complementarias.

After the thesis of Religion’s decadence come the actual interest for the po-litical, economical and cultural consequences of the religious fact. The glob-alisation’s process and the problematic clash or dialogue of civilizations revalue the different religions. It is important to study the social and anthro-pological functions of religions and to evaluateit’shumanitarian and it’s violence destructive. These dynamics change from the traditional societies to the post-moderns, because, as nationalism, they are resistance’s factors against cultural colonisation and identity erosion. They can contribute also to world’s peace, to an inter-cultural ethic and to civilization’s dialogue.

The document of Aparecida represents a kayros for the Teología India (Amerindian theology) in the Church. In the document the indigenous peoples of the Americas are recognized as an important reference point. Even though some groups have expressed some reservations about Teología India, the general impression given by the Aparecida Document is of a positive prospective and of a promising contribution to the Church and the Latin American society.
This text is part of a more comprehensive investigation in which the author researches the understanding of peace in the Bible and in the present practice of the Catholic Church. The author postulates that Christian peace has three principal traits or elements: 1. Christian peace certainly is tied to justice, not in the merely legal sense but in an understanding of gratuity; this is why we can say that peace is the offspring of forgiveness. 2. Peace issues from the victims. Even though it is re-lated to political treaties and the democratic politics of survival, strictly speaking it is possible only on the basis of forgiveness and the contribution of the victims. This is why all efforts to impose peace from above, i.e. through the initiative of those who run the system, must ultimately fail. 3. Christian peace is the task of the church (not the state). The political efforts of the states and the big economical and social institutions can and must be exercised in the service of peace, of course, but Christian peace in its strict sense is the task of the Christian community, and can and should be constructed from the bottom up – without the use of power.
