Del existencialismo al posestructuralismo: nuevas coordenadas para pensar la historia intelectual francesa de posguerra (1945-1968).
Full text linkThe present paper reviews some methodological transformations within new intellectual history and how these have been applied to the study of French postwar cultural-philosophical currents. Based on new perspectives that inform recent literature about this topic, it develops a proposal to understand the transition from existentialism to poststructuralism which derives from tracking the trajectory of two intellectual debates: the quarrels around phenomenology and humanism that took place on France between 1945 and 1968. This essay not only contributes to the attempt of rethinking French intellectual life and its leading movements throughout this period, but it also uses this case to illustrate the evolution of a long historiographical debate and certain general changes within intellectual history as a discipline. El presente ensayo repasa algunas transformaciones metodológicas al interior de la nueva historia intelectual y la manera en que estas se han reflejado en el estudio de las tendencias culturales-filosóficas de la posguerra francesa. A partir de las perspectivas abiertas por la literatura más reciente sobre este tema, se construye una propuesta para entender la transición del existencialismo al posestructuralismo basada en el seguimiento de la trayectoria de dos debates intelectuales: las polémicas en torno a la fenomenología y al humanismo que tuvieron lugar en Francia entre 1945 y 1968. Este texto no sólo contribuye al intento por repensar la vida intelectual francesa de este periodo y sus tendencias más reconocidas, sino que ilustra con este caso específico la evolución de un largo debate historiográfico y ciertos cambios generales en la historia intelectual como disciplina
Una cartografía de las memorias en el Mapa Colaborativo del Exilio Español en México: nuevas narrativas y desafíos conceptuales.
Full text linkThe commemorations of the 75th and 80th anniversaries of the spanish exile in México had developed new narratives and representations of time in space, in a digital plataforma named “Collaborative maps of spanish exile in México (2014-2019)”. In this paper we want to explain how in the analysis of these phenomena, some conceptual borders of terms, have blurred in orden to register and conceptualize new kinds of memories. There can be established two important routs in orden to understand these new narratives: one consists in the cartographical representation of space and, on the other hand, the concept or rizoma as the mapping excercise of symbolic images of past experiences. In between we look for another category as Invisible landscape, in order to explain the special kind of anamnesis that takes places in the digital map. Second, there is another “new concept” between communicative memory and cultural memory: postmemory, which names memories of a second and third generation after victims and survivors of that first exile. This explains content, form and some effects of this digital artifact.
Las conmemoraciones de los 75 y 80 aniversarios del exilio español en México hacen posible nuevas narrativas y representaciones del tiempo en el espacio, mediante la plataforma Mapa colaborativo del exilio español en México (2014-2019). Este artículo analiza la identificación de dos rutas conceptuales posibles, cuyas fronteras se desdibujan y dan cuenta de fenómenos nuevos en el registro del recuerdo del exilio: (1) la conceptuación de la representación cartográfica del territorio y (2) la categoría de rizoma. Entre ambas fronteras de definición está la categoría de paisaje invisible, la cual expresa la condición espacio temporal evanescente de los recuerdos del exilio. La segunda se refiere al desdibujamiento entre la memoria cultural y la memoria comunicada, para hacer de la posmemoria un fenómeno emergente en la representación del exilio.

Full text linkThe Anthropocene evolved from a chronostratigraphic quarrel about the possible existence of a new geological epoch to an analytical device to interpret the present. This article addresses the narrative of the Anthropocene from the point of view of the historical epistemology of sciences, the formation of evidence and the emergence of counter-narratives such as the Wasteocene. In light of Armiero, Kant, Foucault and Koselleck’s insights, it is argued that the Anthropocene has become the great collective singular of our time.El Antropoceno ha pasado de ser una polémica cronoestratigráfica sobre la posible existencia de una nueva época geológica a transformarse en un instrumento analítico con el que interpretar el tiempo presente. En este artículo se aborda la narrativa del Antropoceno desde el punto de vista de la epistemología histórica de las ciencias, la formación de evidencias y el surgimiento de contranarrativas como el Basuroceno. A la luz de las propuestas teóricas de Armiero, Kant, Foucault y Koselleck, se argumenta que el Antropoceno se ha convertido en el gran colectivo singular de nuestro tiempo

Full text linkFrancisco Vázquez, professor of philosophy at the University of Cádiz, combines the virtues of the philosopher and the historian like few others. A meticulous reading of Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu and Georges Canguilhem has positioned him as one of the greatest scholars of contemporary French philosophy in Spanish, as well as providing him with a theoretical framework and a solid method to produce unique historical investigations. His career as a historian is marked by a series of works devoted to the configuration of sexuality in Spain, which includes histories of prostitution, sexual morality, homosexuality, hermaphroditism, and transsexuality. Pater infamis is the result of an interest that arose around the year 2011, but which could only become the object of study thanks to the recent notoriety of sexual abuse committed by the clergy in Spanish territory. From this point of view, it is appropriate to classify the book as a historical ontology of the present.
Francisco Vázquez, catedrático de filosofía en la Universidad de Cádiz, conjuga como pocos las virtudes del filósofo y del historiador. Una lectura minuciosa de Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu y Georges Canguilhem lo ha posicionado como uno de los mayores estudiosos de la filosofía francesa contemporánea en habla hispana, así como le ha proporcionado un marco teórico y metodológico sólido para producir investigaciones históricas únicas. Su carrera como historiador está marcada por una serie de trabajos dedicados a la configuración de la sexualidad en España, la cual incluye las historias de la prostitución, la moral sexual, la homosexualidad, el hermafroditismo y la transexualidad. Pater infamis es resultado de un interés surgido alrededor del año 2011, pero que sólo pudo convertirse en objeto de estudio gracias a la notoriedad reciente de los abusos sexuales cometidos por el clero en territorio español. Desde este punto de vista, es adecuado catalogar al libro como una ontología histórica de la actualidad.

Full text linkIn 1934-5, two Soviets travel to the United States, commissioned to make a series of photo reports about “typical America”. The thematic structure of these issues is rather vague in an almost parallel publication, a book which contains much more travel notes. Texts, photographs, photo reports and the book that organize the travel experience, display a road trip that crosses internal borders, reveals differences, and invites a continually updated reading. Today, we not only observe those borders and differences, both visible and invisible; our reading also reveals our own political, social, ethnic, and cultural ruptures. The essay, in addition to studying a part of the trip and all it refers to later readers, influenced by their respective horizons, introduces theoretical aspects about at least two relevant historiographical subjects: the validity of the fusion of horizons, and a distinction that we will have to consider: the difference between ethnic identities and cultural identities.En 1934-5, dos soviéticos viajan por Estados Unidos, con el encargo de realizar una serie de fotoreportajes en torno a la “América típica”. La estructura temática de estos temas se desdibuja en otra publicación casi paralela, un libro mucho más extenso. Las distintas estructuras de los fotoreportajes y del libro que organizan la experiencia del viaje, los textos y las fotografías, muestran una travesía por carretera que cruza fronteras internas, revela diferencias, e invitan a lecturas que se actualizan continuamente. Desde la actualidad, la lectura no sólo observa aquellas fronteras y diferencias, tanto visibles como invisibles; manifiesta también nuestras propias fracturas políticas, sociales, étnicas, y culturales. El ensayo, además de estudiar una parte del viaje y a lo que éste remite a lectores posteriores, influenciados por sus respectivos horizontes, plantea desde la actualidad aspectos teóricos en cuyo centro surgen dos problemas relevantes para la historiografía: la vigencia de la fusión de horizontes, y una distinción en torno a la que habrá que seguir reflexionado: entre identidades étnicas e identidades culturales
The Relevance of Relevance:: Forgetting Strategies and Contingency in Postmodern Memory
Full text linkWe live in a “search engine society”. Underlying this self-description of post-modern society there is the crucial dependency of social memory from archives. Apart from moral and legal concerns, search engines are sociologically intriguing subject because of their close connection with the evolution of social memory. In this contribution I argue that search engines are non-semantic indexing systems which turn the circular interplay between users and the machine into a cybernetic system. The main function of this cybernetic system is to minimize the deviation from a difference, that between relevant and not-relevant. Through mechanical archives, post-modern social memory can cope with increasing knowledge complexity. The main challenge in this respect is how to preserve the capability of discarding in order to produce information.Vivimos en una “sociedad de motores de búsqueda”. Detrás de esta auto- descripción de la sociedad posmoderna está la dependencia crucial de la memoriasocial de los archivos. Aparte de las preocupaciones morales y jurídicas, los motores de búsqueda son temas sociológicamente intrigan- tes debido a su estrechaconexión con la evolución de la memoria social. En esta contribución sostengo que los motores de búsqueda son sistemas de indexación no semánticos queconvierten la interacción circular entre los usuarios y la máquina en un sistema cibernético. La función princi- pal de este sistema cibernético es minimizar ladesviación de una dife- rencia, la que existe entre relevante y no relevante. A través de archivos mecánicos, la memoria social posmoderna puede hacer frentea una cre- ciente complejidad del conocimiento. This writing was born without a summary, without the need to reduce in lines what the conditions of possibility of history and contingency cause. This dissertation presented by Miguel Morey, comes from disputes out loud, betting on historicity, contradiction and chance, where Zarathustra's gesture shows that, since there is no origin, only the incessant provenance that occurs between knowledge and knowing, propose a historical sense, never given but open to the future. In these lines, Nietzsche's untimely words enter the scene, to remind us that what is given is always to come, in a challenge that will never cease against universals, assuming the differences between the real and the rational that never end up converging, and where in turn the historical a priori dictates or justifies the inheritance to his heirs. Thus, the Nietzschean contingency that is presented in these lines is the gesture of a thought that puts itself into work and action incessantly, blurring into the multiplicity and heterogeneity of registers loudly and silently, playing between the eternal return, where each repetition opens the possibility of instability and the event, between unfolding and overflowing of meanings, which reminds us that we are contingent, finite, uncertain and fragmentary beings…unstable between lack and the future.

Este escrito nació sin resumen, sin necesidad de reducir en líneas lo que las condiciones de posibilidad de la historia y la contingencia provocan. Esta disertación presentada por Miguel Morey, procede de disputas en voz alta, apostando a la historicidad, a la contradicción y el azar, donde el gesto de Zaratustra evidencia que, al no haber origen, solo la procedencia incesante que se produce entre el saber y el conocer, proponen un sentido histórico, nunca dado sino abierto al porvenir. En estas líneas, las intempestivas de Nietzsche entran en la escena, para recordarnos que lo dado, esta siempre por venir, en una impugnación que no cesará nunca contra los universales, asumiendo las diferencias entre lo real y lo racional que no terminan nunca por converger, y donde a su vez el apriori histórico dictamina ni justifica la herencia a sus herederos. Así la contingencia nietzscheana que se presenta en estas líneas, es el gesto de un pensamiento que se pone en obra y acción incesantemente, difuminándose en la multiplicidad y heterogeneidad de los registros ruidosa y silenciosamente, jugándose entre el eterno retorno, donde cada repetición, abre la posibilidad a la inestabilidad y al acontecimiento, entre desdoblamientos y desbordamientos de sentidos, que nos recuerda que somos seres contingentes, finitos, inciertos y fragmentarios…inestables entre la falta y el porvenir

Full text linkThis essay aims to take a position regarding Javier Moscoso's writing "Historias de la experiencia". The text is divided in two parts, at first the author outlines an interpretation of this writing, underlining the points that question him and that open the debate. In a second moment, the author develops his proposal around what he understands by writing history and its social function. The text maintains that a comment on a text only has value if it is first exposed from where it is carried out. Put more explicitly, the discussion is not in the commented text but in the criteria that are put into play to criticize it. When making history, what has to be discussed are the postulates with which the appropriation of the text is carried out.Este ensayo tiene como objetivo tomar una posición con respecto al escrito de Javier Moscoso “Historias de la experiencia”. El texto se divide en dos, en un primer momento el autor esboza una interpretación de este escrito, subrayando los puntos que lo interpelan y que abren el debate. En un segundo momento, el autor desarrolla su propuesta en torno a lo qué entiende por escritura de la historia y su función social. El texto sostiene que un comentario de un texto sólo tiene valor si antes se expone desde dónde se lleva a cabo. Dicho de manera más explícita, la discusión no está en el texto comentado sino en los criterios que se ponen en juego para criticarlo. Al hacer historia, lo que tienen que discutirse son los postulados con los cuales se lleva a cabo la apropiación del texto.
 
¿Un pasado práctico para el feminismo? Manifiestos del Sur al Norte
Full text linkThis article reviews the notion of the practical past proposed by Hayden White, putting it in dialogue with the current context of academic and public debates motivated by the re-emergence of feminism as a social movement. From the textual interventions of feminist theorists and writers, I will consider whether they can be considered proposals of a practical past for the present mobilization. The aim will be to show the relevance of such notion to illuminate this context and its texts, but also to argue that we can retain its usefulness without committing ourselves to all the implications of its original formulation, specifically, regarding the definition of the practical past as dichotomically opposed to the historical past. I will also conclude that the current feminist manifestos from the South and the North put forward narratives about the past that are cognitively responsible and necessary to account for a present of injustices, inequalities and violence that, as democratic societies, we should wish to counteract.Este artículo revisa la noción de pasado práctico propuesta por Hayden White poniéndola en diálogo con el contexto actual de debates académicos y públicos motivados por la reemergencia del feminismo como movimiento social. A partir de intervenciones textuales de teóricas y escritoras feministas ponderaré si pueden ser consideradas como propuestas de un pasado práctico para la movilización presente. El objetivo será mostrar la pertinencia de dicha noción para iluminar este contexto y sus textos, pero también argumentar que podemos retener su utilidad sin comprometernos con la todas las implicancias que tiene en su formulación original, específicamente, respecto de la definición del pasado práctico como opuesto dicotómico del pasado histórico. Concluiré también que los manifiestos feministas actuales del Sur y del Norte proponen relatos sobre el pasado cognitivamente responsables y necesarios para dar cuenta de un presente de injusticias, desigualdades y violencias que, como sociedades democráticas, deberíamos desear contrarrestar
