    ASSOCIATION BETWEEN MAGNESIUM LEVELS AND THE SEVERITY OF ACNE VULGARIS

    Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a cosmetic problem that often occurs in 80% of the population, especially reproductive age (12-25 years). Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of pilosebaceous follicles with multifactorial causes and clinical manifestations of blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Magnesium plays a role in increasing skin hydration, increasing skin permeability, barrier repair, and facilitating skin proliferation and epidermal differentiation to reduce inflammation. Hypomagnesium is thought to increase inflammation and affect androgen hormones, especially testosterone, which plays a role in increasing the hyperactivity of the sebaceous glands in the pathogenesis of Acne Vulgaris.Purpose: To determine the difference in magnesium levels in each severity degree of acne vulgaris, namely mild, moderate, and severe.Method: This study is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique is purposive sampling with a total sample of 30 people. Data retrieval in this study was carried out using photo taking of three sides of the face (front, right oblique, left oblique). Then proceed with a three cc venous blood draw to measure magnesium levels in the blood.Results: This study found a significant difference between magnesium levels and the severity of acne vulgaris with a value of p = 0.032 (p <0.05). Magnesium levels in severe acne vulgaris were higher than moderate and mild acne vulgaris. However, magnesium levels in all samples were still within the normal range. There was a moderate positive correlation between the two variables with a p-value = 0.016 (p <0.05).Conclusion: There was a significant difference between magnesium levels and the severity of acne vulgaris, and there is a moderate positive correlation between magnesium levels and the severity of acne vulgaris, which means that the higher the magnesium level, the more severe the degree of acne vulgaris

    Introduction: Preeclampsia and eclampsia were emergencies, which greatly contribute to maternal mortality. The definitive management for preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum was pregnancy termination, which can be done by the caesarean section method.Purpose: To analyze the correlation between preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum and the caesarean section method at Prof. Dr. H. Aloei Saboe in September to January 2020.Method: Observational study with cross-sectional approaches. The sample used was mothers who gave birth at Prof. Dr. H Aloei Saboe during the period January-September 2020, which fulfilled the criteria of inclusion and exclusion with a total of 66 samples. Data were taken from medical records and analyzed by using the test Chi-square, with a significance value of 10% (α = 0.10).Results: Hypothesis testing used chi-square method with a level of significance 10% (α = 0.10), obtaining the p-value (0.82) ( p> 0.10).Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum and the delivery of the Caesarean section method at Prof. Dr. H.     HEMOTHORAX FOLLOWING PENETRATING THORACIC INJURY (GUNSHOT WOUND) IN GERIATRIC PATIENT: A CASE REPORT AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

    Introduction: Penetrating chest trauma is highly lethal. Studies have reported up to 60% mortality depending on the mechanism of injury. While penetrating chest trauma is lesscommon than blunt trauma, it can be more deadly. High-velocity gunshot injury resulting inpenetrating thoracic trauma in geriatric patients poses a significant challenge for the traumaticsurgeon. Hemothorax is usually a consequence of penetrating chest trauma. It can be caused byintercostal arterial bleeding, especially the posterior part. Initial treatment, including chest tubedrainage insertion, is needed to avoid lung compression and to assess future treatment needed. Purpose: To report the patient survival from massive hemothorax caused by penetratingThoracic injury caused by an air rifle, treated by chest tube insertion and posterolateralthoracotomy to take out the bullet several days after.Case Report: 70-year male patient came to the Emergency Room (ER) Adihusada HospitalSurabaya with a penetrating chest injury caused by an air rifle on the right side of the chest. The patient had chest pain, shortness of breath, and hypoxia. By inserting a chest tube,emergency management was done by a general surgeon due to the massive right hemothorax.An immediate chest tube insertion was needed to overcome the patient’s breathing problem toassess the future treatment needed. Chest X-ray and CT-Scan was done immediately after thepatient’s hemodynamic were stable. Three days after hospitalizing, the Cardiothoracic andvascular surgeon performed posterolateral thoracotomy to take the bullet out of the chest.Conclusion: Seven days postoperatively, the patient was discharged from the hospital withoutany complications and stable hemodynamic.     COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GIVING BINAHONG LEAF (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) AND PAPAYA LEAF (Carica papaya) ON SKIN WOUND HEALING IN WHITE RAT (Rattus novergicus)

    Introduction: The incidence of acute and chronic injuries increases every year. Most injuriesin the world population, as many as 48%, are caused by trauma or surgery. the highestincidence of wounds in the world based on the etiology was from surgery, which was 110.30million cases. One of the handlings of wounds on the skin can be done by giving herbalmedicines, which can be easily accessed by the public, such as binahong leaves and papayaleaves. Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of giving 40% binahong leaf extract cream and 40%papaya leaf extract cream on the wound distance in the white rat wound healing process. Method: this study is an experimental study with post-test only control group designapproach. The sampling technique used in this study was a random sampling method wherethe number of samples was calculated using the Federer formula, with a total sample of 28white rats. The distance of the wound was measured using a micrometer. Results: Twenty-eight wound distance on rats were measured as subjects of the study andthen treated with binahong leaf extract cream and papaya leaf extract cream, then the wounddistance of each treatment was measured using a micrometer. According to the results, 40%binahong leaf extract cream and 40% papaya leaf extract cream showed better effectivenessin reducing the wound distance of white rat incision than the negative control group (creambase) and positive control group (gentamicin ointment). According to the Mann Whitney testcomparing the P1 group (40% binahong leaf extract cream) and P2 (40% papaya leaf extractcream), p-value >0.05, which is 0.543, which means that P1 has no significant meandifference with P2. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in effectiveness between the treatment of40% binahong leaf extract cream and 40% papaya leaf extract cream

    ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT OF GNETUM GNEMON L. LEAVES EXTRACT ON STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS

    Introduction: Bacterial infections are common among doctors in Indonesia, leading toincreased use of antibiotics. Increased use of antibiotics, if not accompanied by rationalindication, can increase bacterial resistance. At present, alternative medicine from naturalingredients is widely studied, one of which is the leaves of melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.).Melinjo leaves are thought to contain antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, tannins,saponins, and alkaloids. Staphylococcus aureus is a round Gram-positive bacteria, that forms grape-like clusters. Staphylococcus aureus is a normal flora on the skin and human mucosa but can be opportunistic pathogens that cause mild to severe infections such as sepsis. Pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus can produce hemolysis blood, frozen plasma, and produce various extracellular enzymes and toxins. Purpose: This research aims to study the MIC and MBC of melinjo leaves extract on thegrowth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research is an experimental study with a posttest control group design. Method: Testing conducted using the microdilution method. Melinjo leaves used were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol. Samples were Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 from BBLK Surabaya.Results: extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) had MIC on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 640 mg/ml. MBC was not obtained because the extract of melinjo leaves clotted above 1280 mg/ml concentration. Conclusion: Melinjo leaves extract has an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus, the MIC is obtained at a concentration of 640 mg/ml, and the MBC cannot be determined

    EFFECTIVENESS OF MUSIC-BASED THERAPY AS A POSSIBLE INTERVENTION FOR DEMENTIA IN SOCIAL RESTRICTIVE SITUATIONS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF RCTS

    Introduction: Patients with dementia experience painful, confusing, frustrating, and amnesialike emotional distress and instability because of their brain’s inability to correlate their emotions with the memory that causes the emotion. Moreover, the dependency of dementia patients also results in an additional emotional, physical, and financial burden to their families and caregivers. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic forces drastic self-isolation, which are hard to comprehend for dementia patients, increasing their feeling of anxiety, loneliness, and frustration. Music therapy has gained popularity amongst other therapy alternatives for dementia for its easy accessibility, previously proven effectiveness to reduce dementia symptoms and its positive impact on the caregivers.Method: A systematic review was performed, searching for randomized controlled trials, according to the PRISMA statement, throughout five international databases with published studies up to 18 April 2021. Critical appraisal was further conducted utilizing the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0.Results: The search yielded eight randomized controlled trials with a total of 534 subjects. The intervention conducted was in individual or group music therapy. The outcomes were measured using various indicators, and significant improvements found in agitated behaviour, behavioural and psychological symptoms, and general mood of the patient. Conclusion: Music therapy is a highly potential alternative therapy for elderly patients with dementia, showing significant and effective improvements to reduce dementia-related symptoms. Further studies in coherence with implementations of the therapy are urgently needed to aid the increasing prevalence of dementia worldwide, especially in Indonesia

    Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders are injuries that Affect the musculoskeletal systemthat can be the caused or aggravated by the working environment. Factors that can causemusculoskeletal disorders are exertion of force, repetition, and awkward posture. Awkwardposture held too long in the same position will cause injuries and complaints , which in turnwill Decrease the productivity for the workers and the company. Purpose: The aim of the study is to examine the correlation between working posture andmusculoskeletal disorders on concrete workers of the production division in PT. X Bali. Method: This study is an observational analytical study with cross-sectional design,participated by 43 concrete workers of production division using consecutive samplingtechnique. The study was held at PT X's concrete plant on Jl. Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra No.2461, Gianyar, Bali from 15th July to 17th July. Working posture was measured with RapidEntire Body Assessment (REBA) and the level of musculoskeletal disorder was measured with Nordic Body Map (NBM). Both variables were Analyzed using Kendall's Tau-C to Determine the correlation between working posture and musculoskeletal disorders. Results: Most workers had moderate risk of working posture measured with REBA (46.5%).Using the NBM method, most workers had moderate levels of musculoskeletal disorders.(46.5%). The distribution of MSDs on the body part are mostly located on the shoulder andhip. Analysis of correlation between working posture and musculoskeletal disorder results in(p < 0.001) and (r = 0.769). Conclusion: that there is a significant correlation between work posture with musculoskeletalcomplaints in concrete factory workers of the production unit at PT. X Bali

    EFFECT OF AFRICAN LEAF EXTRACT (Vernonia amygdalina) ON ALLOXANINDUCED DIABETES MELLITUS LEYDIG CELL MYTOSIS OF WISTAR RATS

    Introduction: Diabetes mellitus can reduce the quality of human life when accompanied bycomplications, one of which is sexual dysfunction. In diabetics, there is an increase in ROSproduction which can cause damage to local Leydig cell proliferation so that Leydig cellactivity and testosterone secretion decrease. African leaves can be used as a control of bloodsugar levels and antioxidants to overcome oxidative stress. Purpose: To determine the effect of administration of African leaf extract (Vernoniaamygdalina) on alloxan-induced Leydig cell mitosis in male rats with diabetes mellitus.Method: This experimental study used 31 male Rattus norvegicus white rats divided into K,P0, P1, P2, and P3 groups. Each group consisting of six rats and one rat outside the study group was used as a reference. Experimental animals will be induced alloxan with a single dose of 150 mg/kgBW for four days. African leaf extract was administered using a probe togroups P1, P2, P3 at a dose of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBW for 14 days. Rats wereanaesthetized and euthanized so that the testes could be used to make preparations with HEstaining and analysis of preparations using a 400x magnification light microscope. Theresearch data were analyzed using One-Way Annova with P<0.05. Results: The administration of African leaf extract affected increasing the number of mitoticLeydig cells (P=0.026). There was a significant increase in the number of mitotic Leydig cellsat a dose of 100 mg/kgBW (P=0.021), but not effective at a dose of 200 mg/kgBW (P=0.188)and 400 mg/kgBW (P=0.823). Conclusion: The administration of African leaf extract at a dose of 100 mg/kgBW has beenshown to increase the number of mitotic Leydig cells so that it can be used to improve sexualfunction in diabetics

    AFRICAN BITTER LEAF EXTRACT EFFECT ON EPITHELIUM THICKNESS OF SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES IN WISTAR RATS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

    Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease that can cause complications in the form of damage to male reproductive organs, such as decreased sperm motility and cell count, impaired spermatogenesis, and erectile dysfunction. A measurement that can be done to detect male reproductive disorders is to measure the thickness of the seminiferous tubule epithelium. Herbal medicines can be used to support treating diabetes. Studies have claimed that African bitter leaf helps in treating DM and its complications.Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of African bitter leaf extract on epithelium thickness of seminiferous tubules in rats with DM.Method: True Experimental with Post-Test Only Control Group Design using Rattus norvegicus. Rats were divided into five groups, with six rats in each group. Rats were administered with a single dose of alloxan 150 mg/kg BW/IP. Group K is diabetic rats given glibenclamide 0,63 mg/kg BW. Group P0 are diabetic rats given CMC 0,1% 0,7 ml. Group P1 are diabetic rats given African bitter leaf extract 100 mg/kg BW. Group P2 are diabetic rats given African bitter leaf extract 200 mg/kg BW. Group P3 are diabetic rats given African bitter leaf extract 400 mg/kg BW. Treatments were given with oral gavage for 14 days. Rats were dissected, and their testis was made as histological slides. Results are statistically tested with ANOVA.Results: The average epithelium thickness from group K are 79,61 μm, group P0 are 59,96 μm, group P1 are 71,87 μm, group P2 are 67,31 μm, group P3 are 63,95 μm showed significant result (p=0,000).Conclusions: African bitter leaf extract affects epithelium thickness of seminiferous tubules, with group K, shows the best result, followed by group P1
