The Correlation Between Total Calories And Protein Intake With Serum Albumin Level Of Post-Surgical Patients

    No full text
Introduction: Post-surgery diet is a set of foods that are given to patients after surgery. Nutritional management in post-surgical patients are often neglected despite the fact that patients require additional calories due to metabolic stress. Nutritional deficiency can impair wound healing since it is a process that requires protein to form collagen tissue. Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between total calories and protein intake with serum albumin level of post-surgical patients. Methods: This study used an observational analytic design with cross-sectional approach. The sample was gathered using consecutive sampling technique. Study population were all post-surgical patients of Dr. Mohammad Soewandhie Hospital Surabaya aged 30-64 years whose medical records taken in June 2016. There are 32 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Result: There was a significant correlation between the total calories intake with serum albumin level (r = 0.354; p = 0.047) and between total protein intake with serum albumin level (r = 0.545; p = 0.001). Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between total calories and protein intake with serum albumin level in post-surgical patients

Background: Gallbladder adhesion is a complication which causes difficulty in cholecystectomy. The author aims to seek for a test that could be used as a predictor factor for gallbladder adhesion. In this research, the elevated white blood cell (leukocyte) count is the factor studied. Aim: This study aims to seek for correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion on cholecystectomy patients. Method: This research is an observational analytic study using cross sectional design. The independent variable in this research is leukocytosis, and the dependent variable is gallbladder adhesion. Analysis in this research is carried out with Chi-Square test, using a total sampling of 45 medical records of cholecystectomy patients at X Hospital. Result: The majority of cholelithiasis patients in this research were between 50-59 years old (33,3%), with a mean of 51 years old. The number of cholelithiasis patient was dominated by female (62,2%). According to the cholecystectomy procedure, 26 patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (58,8%). According to clinical presentation, pain in the upper right of the abdomen was experienced by 25 patients (55,6%). Complication suffered by patients was mostly cholecystitis (n=44), yielding the number of 97,8%, followed by gallbladder adhesion in 34 patients (75,6%). Leukocytosis, which is assumed to be the predictor factor of gallbladder adhesion, was found in 15 patients (33,3%). The Chi-Square test showed no significant correlation between the two variable studied (p=0,62). Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion in cholecystectomy patients

Introduction: Treatment for allergic rhinitis as a disease that can impact on the quality of life, work productivity, school performance, and disturbances in the physiological function of the nose with recurring symptoms need more effective treatment. Nasal wash solution with isotonic saline in nasal spray method (Saline Nasal Spray) is known to reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis by clearing secretions, reduces edema, and remove harmful ingredients that go along with breathing air. The purpose of this study ledge used for the effectiveness of Saline Nasal Spray to changes in nasal mucociliary transport time patients with allergic rhinitis. Methods: Experimental research of pre-post test with control group design. Mucociliary transport time was measured using the saccharine test 20 samples in the group treated with saline nasal spray treatment and 20 samples in the control group without saline nasal spray. Result: Based on the analysis, Mann-Whitney for the treatment group and the control group obtained significant results p = 0.000 (

Introduction: The increased number of the elderly dominates the improvement of lifeexpectancy of age in Indonesia. This condition is caused by a variety of health problems, including the decline of cognitive function. One of the risk factors for cognitive decline is social engagement. Social disengagement was associated with lower cognitive function. Aim: The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between social engagement and cognitive function in the elderly at Posyandu Lanjut Usia Mekar Sari, RW V, Mojo, Surabaya. Method: This research is an observational analysis with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this research is all elderly in Posyandu Lanjut Usia Mekar Sari, RW V, Mojo, Surabaya. The sample of this study is the elderly aged above 60 years old. The sampling research in this report is Consecutive Sampling Result: The result of the Rank Spearman correlation test hold the probability value as (Sig.) 0.201. The test showed a result of p > α (α = 0.05) Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between social engagement and cognitive function in the elderly at Posyandu Lansia Mekar Sari, RW V, Mojo, Surabay
