    No full text

Secrecy Energy-Efficient Solution in Multi-User NOMA-Enabled Ambient Backscattering

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, we investigate the secrecy energy-efficiency of a multi-user downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system with ambient backscatter communication in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. We formulate the optimization problem as a trade-off between secrecy sum-rate and total power consumption, which is inherently non-convex due to interference and variable coupling. A closed-form solution for the optimal reflection coefficient is derived, transforming the optimization problem into a convex power allocation that has been recently solved in a closed form. The solution can also be utilized to efficiently maximize the ratio between the secrecy sum-rate and power consumption, requiring only a line search. Simulation results show that the proposed approach outperforms conventional NOMA and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes, with or without backscatter, in terms of secrecy energy-efficiency

Terahertz Frequency Comb High-Resolution Heterodyne Spectrometer

    No full text
International audienceWe demonstrate the advantages of THz frequency combs for high-resolution spectroscopy. This benefits from wide spectral coverage and the exact knowledge of the frequency position of each comb component. Heterodyne detection combined with a fast Fourier spectrometer enables rapid and simultaneous measurement of more than 80 frequency comb modes covering a 7.5 GHz bandwidth. A spectrum is obtained in under 20 minutes yielding a uniform resolution of 70 kHz. This new setup has been validated by recording more than 150 lines of methanol around 723 GHz, and represents a new solution to exploit THz frequency combs for high-resolution spectroscopy

    No full text
International audienceThis article examines the role of dialogical negation (DN) in contemporary French-language scientific discourse on cosmopolitanism and global citizenship, two notions that carry a heavy discursive memory but are still exploited in the humanities. Based on the conception of DN as an arena of asymmetrical opposition of discourses, the study shows how DN contributes to delimiting the zones of the (un)speakable in academic texts. The article stresses that DN acts both as an indicator of the evolution of discursive norms and as a tool for it by allowing a form of “distant recognition” of the arguments that speakers are unable to carry, for a variety of reasons. The article also contributes to the study of the internal structure of the ND, by distinguishing the “single” attribution of the utterance subject to negation from the “double” attribution.

Crystallinity in niobium oxides: A pathway to mitigate two-level-system defects in niobium three-dimensional resonators for quantum applications

    No full text
International audienceMaterials imperfections in Nb-based superconducting quantum circuits-in particular, two-levelsystem (TLS) defects-are a major source of decoherence, ultimately limiting the performance of quantum computation and sensing. Thus, identifying and understanding the microscopic origin of possible TLS defects in these devices will help develop strategies that eliminate them, which are key to superconducting qubit performance improvement. In this paper, we demonstrate an order-of-magnitude reduction in two-level system losses in three-dimensional superconducting radio frequency (SRF) niobium resonators by a 10-h high vacuum (HV) heat treatment at 650 °C, even after exposure to air and high-pressure rinsing (HPR). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) reveal an alteration of the native oxide composition regrown after air exposure and HPR and the creation of nanoscale crystalline oxide regions, which correlates with the measured tenfold quality factor enhancement at low fields of the 1.3 GHz niobium resonator. Tunneling spectroscopy measurements show a pronounced proximity effect that further confirms the presence of metallic layers on the niobium surface
