Histoire et sémiologie narrative des albums concepts : les exemples des corpus québécois et français de 1968 à 1987
This thesis examines French and Québécois concept albums from 1967 to 1987. It approaches the concept album both as a pluri-medial narrative work, in which the components are organized around a central semantic thread, and as a phonographic product in the popular music market, sometimes evolving into a transmedia franchise. The study focuses on two processes, the album sequencing and the album release strategy, in order to understand their forms, objectives, and deployment in French and Québécois music during the studied period. Employing a narratological approach, this work aims to identify how the narrativity of concept albums manifests at all levels : lyrics, music, vocal performance, sound engineering, cover art and album packaging, promotional narrative, the artist’s public persona, live performances, and transmedia adaptations. Additionally, a cantological perspective is used to characterize the aesthetics of French and Québécois concept albums within chanson Francophone and Western popular music in general, particularly in comparison to the Anglophone corpus of the same period.Cette thèse examine des albums concepts français et québécois de 1967 à 1987. Elle aborde l’album concept à la fois comme une œuvre narrative plurimédiale, dont les composants sont organisés autour d’un fil conducteur sémantique, et comme une production phonographique sur le marché musical, évoluant parfois en franchise transmédiatique. L’étude se concentre sur deux processus clés, la mise en album et la mise en marché, en analysant leurs formes, leurs objectifs et leur déploiement dans la musique française et québécoise de la période étudiée. Avec une approche narratologique, ce travail vise à identifier comment la narrativité des albums se manifeste à tous les niveaux : paroles, musique, performance vocale, ingénierie du son, images et structure de la pochette, récit promotionnel, spectacles et adaptations transmédiales. Par ailleurs, une perspective cantologique est utilisée pour caractériser l’esthétique des albums concepts français et québécois au sein de la chanson francophone et de la musique populaire occidentale en général, notamment par rapport au corpus anglophone de la même période
Effet de réel, effet du réel : la littérature médiévale au miroir des histoires
International audienceRéflexions sur la stratification idéologique à l’œuvre dans la Geste des Loherains et notamment Girbert de Metz. L’article reprend tout d’abord de manière synthétique la question des différentes idéologies à l’œuvre dans les textes tardifs de la Geste des Loherains : Hervis de Metz, Yonnet de Metz, La Vengeance Fromondin et Anseÿs de Gascogne. Pour ces textes, dont la composition est davantage unifiée, les différents enjeux politiques semblent aisés à appréhender (notamment dans le cas d’Anseÿs de Gascogne). La question est en revanche plus délicate pour Garin et Girbert, deux œuvres à la composition plus complexe. Sans prétendre résoudre toutes les difficultés qu’offrent des textes à la tradition si riche (une quarantaine de manuscrits, certains proposant des remaniements complets de l’œuvre), nous montrons qu’il n’existe pas une seule idéologie à l’ensemble Garin-Girbert, mais que nous pouvons, au contraire, opposer différents « effets de réel » selon les strates qui semblent constituer ce cycle. L’étude des contradictions internes à l’ensemble (voire aux œuvres prises individuellement) ne doit cependant pas empêcher une relecture globale de la Geste telle qu’elle fut transmise dès le XIIe siècle
Pacification and Reconciliation in the Spanish Habsburg Worlds
International audienceThis is the first volume to analyze pacification strategies within the Spanish Monarchy on a global level. It deals with the development and aftermath of the many early modern modern revolts in Europa and America. These comparative studies uncover the different ways in which the Spanish Monarchy dealt with rebellion from cities and constituencies, ranging from military responses and repression to offers for negociation and reconciliation. They also point out common characteristics of these pacification processes, such as the promises of pardon, the granting of grace and the institution of peace negociators. The different chapters, each accompagnated by an edition of sources, show how the reconciliation and reincorporation into the Spanish Habsburg orbit proved to be a painstaking process with an unpredictable outcome
Theoretical study of randomly distributed gold nanoparticles as potential plasmonic physically unclonable functions
International audienceWe theoretically study a random arrangement of cylindrical gold nanoparticles (NPs) deposited on a dielectric/gold substrate as a potential plasmonic physically unclonable function (PUF). We use the coupled dipole approximation (CDA) method in order to reduce the computation time and memory demand. Each NP is modeled as a single electric dipole through the polarizability tensor of a spheroidal-shaped NP, while the interparticle coupling is described by Green’s tensors. The concept of plasmonic PUF considered here consists of transforming the electric field maps obtained by the CDA into 2D-binary matrices using a key generation algorithm. A PUF must satisfy different criteria to be efficient, including uniqueness that is evaluated by the distributions of Hamming inter-distances. In this work, we propose to evaluate the uniqueness property of different PUFs characterized by substrates whose dielectric layer thickness is variable. We also test the ability to generate unique keys when the challenges to which our PUF concept is subjected change, namely, the wavelength, angle, and plane of incidence

The ‘very moment’ when UDG recognizes a flipped-out uracil base in dsDNA
International audienceAbstract Uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) is the first enzyme in the base-excision repair (BER) pathway, acting on uracil bases in DNA. How UDG finds its targets has not been conclusively resolved yet. Based on available structural and other experimental evidence, two possible pathways are under discussion. In one, the action of UDG on the DNA bases is believed to follow a ‘pinch-push-pull’ model, in which UDG generates the base-flip in an active manner. A second scenario is based on the exploitation of bases flipping out thermally from the DNA. Recent molecular dynamics (MD) studies of DNA in trinucleosome arrays have shown that base-flipping can be readily induced by the action of mechanical forces on DNA alone. This alternative mechanism could possibly enhance the probability for the second scenario of UDG-uracil interaction via the formation of a recognition complex of UDG with flipped-out base. In this work, we describe DNA structures with flipped-out uracil bases generated by MD simulations which we then subject to docking simulations with the UDG enzyme. Our results for the UDG-uracil recognition complex support the view that base-flipping induced by DNA mechanics can be a relevant mechanism of uracil base recognition by the UDG glycosylase in chromatin

Improving mechanical stability of SBA-15 monoliths prepared from polymeric scaffolds replication using bentonite clay
International audienceThe preparation of porous yet mechanically stable centimetric monoliths remains challenging using traditional methods. Herein, hierarchical SBA-15-based porous monoliths, with three levels of porosity (micro- and mesopores from the pores arrangement of the silica structure, and macropores from the replication of polymer beads), were prepared by simple inverse-opal technique. Though the addition of bentonite and proper thermal treatment, solids with specific surface areas above 300 m2/g and resistance toward compression above 50 N were obtained, which is coherent with a use as heterogeneous catalyst supports
Electrocatalytic upcycling of polyethylene terephthalate to formic acid and hydrogen fuels using CoCuO /MXene catalyst
International audienceA promising way to address environmental problems caused by plastic waste is through its upcycling into renewable energy and resources. With annual production reaching millions of tons, one of the most widely single-use daily plastics, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), has recently been investigated in terms of chemical recycling to reduce its environmental impact and generate renewable fuels. This study introduces an innovative electrochemical method for the specific conversion of PET hydrolysate into high-value compounds utilizing CoCuOx@MXene/NF catalyst. Our findings revealed that the electrocatalyst was capable of facilitating the conversion of water into hydrogen (H2), while simultaneously oxidizing ethylene glycol (EG), obtained from PET plastic waste hydrolysis, into formate with a high selectivity and lower initial potential compared to water oxidation. Notably, the exceptional performance was attributed to the synergistic interfacial electronic coupling effect between CoCuOx and MXene, which results in a low overpotential (1.24 V@10 mA cm−2) and a high yield of formate product (87.6%). In addition, the electrolyzer could be operated using solar energy panel for upcycling of PET to formic acid and hydrogen fuels by using CoCuOx@MXene catalyst
