    Get PDF
In the past few years, much research has been conducted on edible mushrooms, among which Pleurotus ostreatus (PO)—also known as oyster mushrooms—has received attention due to its many health and medicinal benefts. Some research has shown that PO and its active compounds, such as lectins, polysaccharides, primarily β-glucans, phenols, polyphenols, terpenoids, ergosterols, and glycoproteins, are strong immune system modulators, have anti-infammatory properties, and have potentially positive efects on the cardiovascular system and athletic performance. In this narrative review, an extensive search (academic databases from inception to April 25, 2024) was conducted in the scientifc literature, and various aspects of PO and its efects on health and athletic performance were investigated. Tis narrative review article thereby demonstrates the potential benefts of PO for improving the overall baseline health and concomitant athletic sports performance, recovery, and cardiovascular system function. In addition to potential enhancements in antioxidant defense, substrate metabolism, and being a rich source of many essential nutrients, we describe a possible positive relationship between PO intake and improved athletic performance and recovery in athletes after intense exercise by reducing infammation, modulating the microbiome, neutralizing free radicals, and strengthening the cardiovascular system. However, more research in basic studies and clinical trials is needed to investigate PO’s clinical applications, mechanisms, and efects on athletes

This study investigates parents’ perceptions of the impact of cultural diversity on their children and their role in facilitating their children’s navigation through diverse cultural landscapes. A questionnaire, part of the Erasmus+ REACT project (the reciprocal maieutic approach), was distributed among 243 parents of secondary school children in Bulgaria, Italy, Greece, and Spain. It aimed to shed light on the effects of cultural diversity on young individuals and the influence of parents in fostering intercultural competences and critical thinking. The findings reveal a strong positive perception among parents regarding cultural diversity, with a significant majority acknowledging its beneficial impact on their children’s development. Parents identify themselves as crucial educators and role models, emphasizing the importance of open dialogue, positive exemplification, and the teaching of tolerance and respect. Despite recognizing the general adeptness of their children in interacting with cultural diversity, parents perceive challenges, particularly related to differences in beliefs, religions, and social classes. Parents favor experiential and participatory activities over traditional academic methods for fostering intercultural competence, suggesting a shift toward more inclusive educational practices that involve family and community. This study calls for educational initiatives that promote active participation, connection with the community, critical thinking, and empathy toward cultural differences. This research formed part of the European project “Reciprocal maieutic Approach pathways enhancing Critical Thinking (REACT)”, Erasmus+ K3 EACEA/38/2019, number 621522-EPP-1-2020-1-IT-EPPKA3-IPI-SOC-IN, funded by the European Union

With this study, we aim to emphasize the heritage of Jaén through the graphic production of architect Luis Berges Roldán. Throughout his professional career, Berges has employed a distinctive and personal system of expression that grants him a recognizable identity. Drawing has always been the lens through which he filters his approach to time and space. The local culture that sparked his vocation as an architect and upon which his executed work unfolds, along with the historical, familial, and personal circumstances he has had to respond to, have been the substrate where his production, both graphic and architectural, has germinated. In this research, we address two complementary perspectives. Firstly, we assess the significance of graphic representation as a substantial asset for understanding his personal universe. Secondly, we focus on comprehending the value of his graphic and architectural production as an inseparable unit, giving rise to his creative thinking

Análisis del rendimiento en corredores por montaña

    No full text

Leveraging Phylogenetics in Software Product Families:The Case of Latent Content Generation in Video Games

    No full text
A family of software products comprises similar products within a defined scope that share common characteristics, often due to reuse techniques applied during development. This paper introduces an approach that applies biological insights to map the landscape of a software product family, identifying potential gaps within its scope. Phylogenetics studies the gene similarity among groups of organisms to understand ancestry among species. Leveraging Phylogenetics in software, our approach offers a structured view of a product family, aiding in the discovery of unexplored areas fitting the scope of the family. Our approach creates a phylogenetic tree that enables to easily identify latent products (ancestors) that did not exist in the original family. Those ancestors can then be reconstructed from existing products (descendants). The product family evaluated is a set of industry-scale video game non-playable characters. We assess this approach through video game simulations and scope metrics to determine how closely the reconstructed products align with the family’s scope. The results confirm that the content generated with phylogenetics aligns better with the family scope than the state-of-the-art procedural content generation techniques using evolutionary algorithms. Phylogenetics enhances content generation by providing a framework to understand and expand the product family with new content

Migration and Sustainable Development Goals in the Spanish press (2014-2021): topics, sources, and frames

    No full text
One of the biggest global challenges is the international movement of people. For this reason, the 2030 Agenda recognises the importance of migration for development within its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their respective targets. The objective of our analysis is to investigate the new situation introduced by the 2030 Agenda in relation to migration processes in the media, in this case based on eight leading Spanish newspapers between 2014 and 2021. This study uses the quantitative content analysis methodology and the framing approach. As frames, it uses the five themes proposed by the 2030 Agenda: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, and Partnerships. It is interesting to note that seven years after the 2030 Agenda was launched, the SDGs are not often cited by the Spanish press to analyse and discuss the migration phenomenon from a sustainability perspective. Moreover, it is observed that discourses on migration in terms of sustainability present a clear political approach that emphasises the framework of international partnerships and agreements in economic terms, a fact that can contribute to a change in audiences’ perception of the migration phenomenon. On the other hand, it should be noted that the frames chosen by newspapers to talk about the migration phenomenon coincide with each other, although slight differences can be observed in the themes and use of sources

Descriptive Analysis of Carrier and Affected Hereditary Fructose Intolerance in Women during Pregnancy

    No full text
Background: Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder resulting from aldolase B deficiency, requiring a fructose, sorbitol and sucrose (FSS)-free diet. Limited information exists on the relationship between pregnancy outcomes and HFI. This study aims to analyze pregnancy-related factors in a cohort of thirty Spanish women, with twenty-three being carriers and seven being HFI-affected (45 pregnancies). (2) Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study utilized an anonymous questionnaire. (3) Results: Findings encompassed physical and emotional states, nutritional habits, pathology development and baby information. Notable results include improved physical and emotional states compared to the general population, with conventional analyses mostly within normal ranges. Persistent issues after pregnancy included hepatic steatosis, liver adenomas and hemangiomas. Carrier mothers’ babies exhibited higher weight than those of patient mothers, while the weights of carrier children born with HFI were similar to disease-affected children. (4) Conclusions: Pregnant women with HFI did not significantly differ in physical and emotional states, except for nausea, vomiting, and cravings. Post-pregnancy, HFI patients and carriers exhibited persistent hepatic issues. Significantly, babies born to HFI-affected mothers had lower weights. This study sheds light on pregnancy outcomes in HFI, emphasizing potential complications and the need for ongoing monitoring and care
