The diet of the population is a sufficiently relevant aspect to allocate resources to teaching what proper nutrition should be like to enjoy good health. Dietitians, as part of the group involved in promoting healthy eating habits among citizens, must be responsible for their dissemination. Consequently, they must be competent in the preparation of health education information taking into account the objectives, content and characteristics of the recipients. With the aim of putting this competence into practice, the second-year CFGS dietetics students designed a nutritional education workshop for a group of young people with intellectual disabilities. The activity aimed to raise awareness of healthy eating and how to create healthy diets in the daily routine. All of this with the aim of providing them with tools that improve their autonomy and teach them how to prepare and prepare their daily meals.
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in the world in women. The side effects of oncological treatments can persist long-term, necessitating appropriate rehabilitation. Telerehabilitation could be a beneficial solution, benefiting both patients by allowing better autonomy and the saturated healthcare system. Objective: To analyze whether telerehabilitation improves the quality of life, functionality of the upper limb, level of physical activity, and endurance of breast cancer patients, as well as promoting long-term adherence to therapeutic exercise. Methods: This study is a multicenter controlled and randomized clinical trial. Patients with breast cancer will be recruited from 3 centers in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France. Patients are
randomized into 2 groups: a control group with autonomous rehabilitation using an exercise booklet, and an intervention group receiving telerehabilitation. The study will last 19 months. Quality of life will be assessed as the primary outcome using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast. Secondary variables are physical activity measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire, upper limb functionality measured by the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire, endurance measured by the Six-Minute Walk Test, and treatment satisfaction measured by an Ad-hoc questionnaire. Expected Results: Improvement in all variables is expected in both groups, with a more significant difference in the telerehabilitation group and relative maintenance of these results at one year for the intervention group. Conclusion: A telerehabilitation program is more beneficial for breast cancer patients than autonomous rehabilitation with an exercise booklet. By increasing patient autonomy in therapeutic exercise practice, results are visible for a longer duration
When government’s economic ideology shapes income Redistribution. Empirical evidence from the OECD
This paper studies the relationship between Government´s economic ideology and income redistribution, using a panel of OECD countries spanning the years 2004–2020.Our results point to the existence of a partisan effect, showing that taxes and transfer policies implemented by parties on the left reduce income inequality more than those of parties on the right. Other political and electoral factors (the proximity of the elections, the number of years for which the chief executive has been in office, and the presence of coalitional and minority governments) do not seem to be as relevant. We also analyze the role that the Great Recession and the globalization process have played in the relationship between Government´s economic ideology and income redistribution, finding that they have significantly altered it
Introduction: one of the main disabling causes in people with multiple sclerosis is spasticity. Spasticity is described as a motor condition characterized by an increase in tonic stretch reflexes and increased excitability in the stretch reflex, which is part of the upper motor neuron syndrome. Percussion therapy has a multitude of purposes: it improves muscle recovery after overload, reduces muscle stiffness, increases range of motion, improves flexibility, improves neuromuscular activation of lower limbs. Objective: to determine if the use of the massage gun can reduce spastic hyperresistance in the quadriceps in patients with multiple sclerosis through the modified Ashworth scale and the Tardieu scale in a period of 2 months. Methodology: It consists of a block-randomized clinical trial stratified according to the level on the EDSS Kurtzke scale. There are two groups, control (they will be treated with static and functional stretching) and experimental (treated with static and functional stretching and a massage gun). The treatment lasts 2 months and 2 evaluations were carried out, one before the intervention and another just after the intervention ended. As a tool to evaluate spasticity, the modified Ashworth scale and the Tardieu scale are used. In addition, the variables: strength, flexibility and functional capacity were measured with isokinetic dynamometry, the Thomas test and the TUG scale, respectively. Conclusion: In this study we aim to determine if the massage gun could reduce spastic hyperresistance in the quadriceps of patients with multiple sclerosis. There is evidence that the massage gun reduces muscle stiffness, increases ROM and improves flexibility, in this way it could prepare the muscle to gain strength and decrease spastic hyperresistance. However, this treatment method is poorly studied, and the few studies that have been found deal with patients with musculoskeletal dysfunctions. In these studies, patients increase flexibility and their perceived pain decreases, and contradictions appear regarding strength gains. More studies are needed to find out if the massage gun could reduce spastic hyperresistance in patients with multiple sclerosis
Artificial intelligence and other technologies as allies in the enjoyment of art and museums
Introduction: Cultural heritage, defined as the set of tangible and intangible assets that constitute the legacy of a community, is invaluable to society. This legacy includes both tangible and intangible assets and forms the basis of cultural identity and social and economic development. Artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies emerge as powerful tools for the management of cultural heritage, offering extensive possibilities for its preservation, promotion, dissemination, and accessibility. Methodolog: This research is based on the review and critical analysis of scientific and grey literature on the use of AI in museums and museological projects. Despite the still limited scientific contributions in this field, various applications and projects incorporating new technologies and AI in the management of cultural heritage were explored. Results: The literature review revealed several promising opportunities for AI in cultural heritage. A key use is AI's ability to analyze large amounts of data, which can uncover patterns and relationships not evident at first glance. Another significant use is the identification and classification of objects, where machine learning algorithms can be trained to recognize different types of objects with specific characteristics. Additionally, AI can be combined with other technologies to innovate the museum experience, providing interactive and personalized experiences for visitors. Discussion: Although the implementation of AI in cultural heritage management is in its early stages, its potential is considerable. AI's ability to handle large volumes of data and perform identification and classification tasks can significantly transform the management and exhibition of cultural heritage. Conclusion: A combined program of intrinsic motor imagery and virtual reality may be effective in reducing pain and improving clinical characteristics of frozen shoulder. However, further studies are needed to confirm the findings
External Load Evaluation in Elite Futsal: Influence of Match Results and Game Location with IMU Technology
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the external load demands in futsal, considering both home and away matches and their outcomes, in order to plan microcycles throughout the season based on the external load of each match. The external load of 10 players from a First Division team in the Spanish Futsal League was recorded throughout 15 official matches in the first half of the league championship. The players’ external load was monitored using OLIVER devices. To analyse the influence of the match outcome and location on the external load, a univariate general linear model (GLM) analysis was conducted with Bonferroni post hoc. There are no differences between the variables neither comparing results nor location factors, except for accelerations of 2 to 3 m/s2 (m) per minute and the number of accelerations of 2 to 3 m/s2 per minute, reporting higher value winnings at home than away (p < 0.05). The location and results are not factors that influence on external load in futsal matches, except the number and distance performed in accelerations and distance covered at a low to medium speed. These findings are important for planning microcycles and providing the appropriate dosage to each player to achieve optimal performance in matches. This work was supported by the research project “Optimización del proceso de dirección del entrenamiento en deportes de cooperación-oposición (Code: Acta CES-PROMETE0-007-2013)”
Effects of different strength and velocity training programs on physical performance in youth futsal players
Futsal is a high intensity team sport with intermittent actions of short duration, so it is necessary to include different training strategies to improve explosive actions. There is a gap in the scientific literature regarding training programs that improve the performance of young futsal players. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different strength and velocity training programs on lower body physical performance in youth futsal players. Forty-two youth futsal players were divided into control group (CG, n=14) and a strength intervention group (SG, n=14), which included a weekly session for 8 weeks of eccentric strength training, plyometrics and core strengthening, and a velocity intervention group (VG, n=14), which included a weekly session during 8 weeks of training with linear speed exercises and with change of direction, accelerations with resistance bands and core strengthening. SG significantly improved horizontal jump (HJ) (p:0.02), V-CUT (p:0.91) and change of direction deficit (CODD)(p:0.01). VG showed significant improvements in HJ (p:0.01), in 25m sprint (p:0.01), in total repeated sprint ability time (p:0.01), in V-CUT (p:0.01) and in CODD (p:0.01). SG showed significant intergroup differences (p:0.01) in COD variables with respect to CG and VG. In conclusion, SG and VG showed significant improvements in lower body performance variables in youth futsal players. In addition, the SG has substantial changes in COD compared to the other two groups, so it has a greater effect. This work was supported by Universidad San Jorge (Internal Research Project 2023–2024) and Departamento de Ciencia, Universidad y Sociedad del Conocimiento from the Gobierno de Aragon (Spain) (Research Group ValorA No. S08_20R)
Impact of Pharmacogenetic Testing on Clozapine Treatment Efficacy in Patients with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia
Managing schizophrenia with clozapine poses a significant challenge due to prevalent therapeutic failures. The increasing interest in personalized medicine underscores the importance of integrating pharmacogenetic information for effective pharmacotherapeutic monitoring in patients. The objective of this study was to explore the correlation between DRD2, HTR2A, SLC6A4, CYP1A2, and ABCB1 polymorphisms and clozapine response in 100 patients with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia. Different scales such as the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWBS), the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAF), the Brief Negative Symptom Scale (BNSS), and pharmacokinetic parameters were used to analyse the efficacy of the treatment. Patients who exclusively responded to clozapine compared to the patients with augmentation strategies exhibited distinctive features, such as lower doses, plasma levels, and presented less-pronounced symptomatology. Genetic associations were explored, highlighting SLC6A4, HTR2A, and the *1F/*1F polymorphism for the CYP1A2 gene
Perceived Experiences of Families of Children with Unilateral Cerebral Palsy in the Implementation of a Task-Specific Intervention in the Home Environment with an Upper Limb Splint: A Qualitative Study
Introduction: Specific home tasks and the use of splints seem to positively affect altered structures and functions, as well as the activities and participation, of children with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP). However, how did families experience the implementation of these therapies? Objective: To describe the experiences as they were perceived by the families of children with UCP before, during, and after a specific task intervention in the home environment, either with or without upper limb splinting. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive, phenomenological study was conducted in a natural environment. Fourteen families caring for children with UCP who participated in a previous randomized controlled trial were included. Data from unstructured and semi-structured interviews were analyzed through a thematic analysis. Results: Fourteen families (17 parents, age 37–47 years) caring for children with UCP (14 children, ages 6–10 years, 64% female) were interviewed. The following three themes emerged: “The project itself”, in which families explained that they enrolled because of their trust in therapists; “Results obtained”, where the main improvement was the integration of the assisting hand in the body schema; and “Lights and shadows”, where families showed what they learned as positive points and some negative aspects related to the assessments and splints. Conclusions: The perceptions of the parents after the specific task intervention in the home environment showed a greater integration of the most affected side. Nevertheless, although the support of a splint on the hand can have beneficial results in terms of performance, other drawbacks leading to the disuse of the splint were highlighted
