Get PDFThe increasing number of multinational companies has added complexity to tasks performed by multicultural teams. While multiculturalism is common in many companies operating globally, it can impact goal achievement both positively and negatively. However, the effective management of multicultural teams offers several benefits, such as access to employees’ unique knowledge and diverse experiences, improved communication with foreign contractors, and the possibility to introduce innovative solutions. This article aims to identify the challenges in managing multicultural teams based on in-depth interviews conducted in 2024 with managers from Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Greece. These challenges are compared to those reported by managers from other European countries in the interviews conducted in 2023. The theoretical section discusses the importance of multicultural teams in contemporary management. The empirical section presents the results of the 2024 interviews and compares them to the 2023 findings. According to managers from Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Greece, the main challenges in managing multicultural teams include the substantive preparation of managers, their level of cultural intelligence, effective communication within multicultural teams, and the continuous development of the knowledge and skills necessary for working in culturally diverse environments.Rosnąca liczba międzynarodowych przedsiębiorstw oznacza większą złożoność zadań, które są realizowane przez wielokulturowe zespoły. Choć dziś wielokulturowość jest powszechnym zjawiskiem w wielu firmach działających na globalnym rynku, może ona wpływać zarówno pozytywnie, jak i negatywnie na realizację ich celów. Jednak skuteczne zarządzanie wielokulturowymi zespołami przynosi szereg korzyści, takich jak dostęp do unikalnej wiedzy pracowników i ich zróżnicowanych doświadczeń, sprawna komunikacja z zagranicznymi kontrahentami czy możliwość wprowadzania nowych, oryginalnych rozwiązań. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie wyzwań w zarządzaniu wielokulturowymi zespołami w oparciu o indywidualne wywiady pogłębione z menedżerami z Niemiec, Austrii, Belgii, Holandii i Grecji, które zostały przeprowadzone w roku 2024 i porównanie ich do wyzwań wymienionych przez menedżerów z innych krajów europejskich w wywiadach z roku 2023. W części teoretycznej artykułu przedstawiono znaczenie wielokulturowych zespołów we współczesnym zarządzaniu. W części badawczej zaprezentowano wyniki wywiadów przeprowadzonych z menedżerami w roku 2024 i porównano je z wynikami wywiadów z menedżerami z innych krajów europejskich z roku 2023. Zdaniem menedżerów z Niemiec, Austrii, Belgii, Holandii i Grecji współczesne wyzwania w zarządzaniu wielokulturowymi zespołami to: przygotowanie merytoryczne menedżerów do zarządzania wielokulturowymi zespołami, poziom inteligencji kulturowej menedżerów, komunikacja w wielokulturowych zespołach i ciągły rozwój wiedzy i umiejętności niezbędnych do pracy w środowisku różnic kulturowych

Get PDFThe study aims to identify the principal circumstances of the digital exclusion of innovative enterprises. A deductive approach was used in the analyses. A leading method was the query of selected literature sources (domestic and foreign) – narrative literature review. Analysis and synthesis were complementary methods. Scientific studies have been chosen from the following full-text databases: EBSCO, Emerald, CEEOL, and BazEkon. The analyses indicated that the primary external circumstances of digital exclusion concerning innovative enterprises include technological, legal, economic, sectoral/cluster, educational, infrastructural, socio-cultural, territorial, and demographic dimensions. On the other hand, the leading internal circumstances for the digital exclusion of innovative enterprises are financial, relational, competence, management, infra-structural, and structural and procedural. In addition, individual circumstances (internal and external) can interact, which further emphasizes the legitimacy of planned and structured management of these circumstances so that they can be used constructively in innovative activities, i.e., aimed at eliminating the phenomenon of digital exclusion.Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja głównych uwarunkowań wykluczenia cyfrowego przedsiębiorstw innowacyjnych. W analizach zastosowano podejście dedukcyjne. Wiodącą metodą była kwerenda wybranych źródeł literaturowych (krajowych i zagranicznych) – narracyjny przegląd literatury przedmiotu . Metodami dopełniającymi były analiza i synteza. Opracowania naukowe zostały wyselekcjonowane z następujących pełnotekstowych baz: EBSCO, Emerald, CEEOL oraz BazEkon. Przeprowadzone analizy wskazały, że do podstawowych zewnętrznych względem przedsiębiorstw innowacyjnych uwarunkowań wykluczenia cyfrowego zaliczyć należy uwarunkowania: technologiczne, prawne, ekonomiczno-gospodarcze, sektorowe/klastrowe, edukacyjne, infrastrukturalne, społeczno-kulturowe, terytorialne, a także demograficzne. Natomiast główne uwarunkowania wewnętrzne wykluczenia cyfrowego przedsiębiorstw innowacyjnych to uwarunkowania: finansowe, relacyjne, kompetencyjne, zarządcze, infrastrukturalne, jak również strukturalno-proceduralne. Ponadto poszczególne uwarunkowania (wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne) mogą na siebie oddziaływać, co dodatkowo podkreśla zasadność planowego i ustrukturyzowanego zarządzania tymi uwarunkowaniami, aby możliwe było ich konstruktywne wykorzystywanie w działalności innowacyjnej, tj. ukierunkowane na niwelowanie zjawiska wykluczenia cyfrowego

Get PDFThe effect of shaping the ethics and culture of modern man is his attitude towards individuals who are different from him and his tolerance for non-uniformity. In connection with the above topic, research on the functioning of people with disabilities requires constant amendment and supplementation. The aim of the research was to learn students\u27 views on the functioning of people with intellectual disabilities. The research was in the form of a diagnostic survey, carried out using an own questionnaire. The research was con-ducted among one hundred students from such fields as: pedagogy, other social sciences, medical sciences, exact and natural sciences, and humanities. The work consists of three main chapters. The first one shows the functions and types of social attitudes and characterizes the concept of social attitudes and stereotypes. The second one presents a description of the own research methodology. The third one presents the results of own research on how a person functions with intellectual disabilities. To get rid of all social barriers, inclusive education must continue to be promoted from an early age. This would eliminate all stereotypes, physical and mental barriers of society towards people with intellectual disabilities.Celem badań było poznanie poglądów studentów na temat funkcjonowania osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Badania miały charakter sondażu diagnostycznego, realizowanego przy pomocy kwestionariusza ankiety własnego autorstwa. Przeprowadzono je wśród stu studentów z takich kierunków jak: pedagogika, inne nauki społeczne, nauki medyczne, nauki ścisłe i przyrodnicze, nauki humanistyczne. Przedstawiono poglądy studentów na ten temat. Artykuł składa się z trzech części. W pierwszej z nich ukazano funkcje i rodzaje postaw społecznych oraz dokonano charakterystyki pojęć postawy społeczne i stereotypy. Przedstawiono pojęcie i klasyfikację niepełnosprawności intelektualnej. Zapoznano ze specyfiką funkcjonowania osoby niepełnosprawnej intelektualnie z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. W drugiej przedstawiono opis metodologii badań własnych. W trzeciej zaprezentowano wyniki badań własnych na temat funkcjonowania osoby z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną.

Get PDFThe occurrence of alcohol consumption has been part of the specificity of human functioning in many different societies for centuries. Its socially undesirable effects have been analysed by many researchers. Alcohol consumption by women, especially those who are pregnant is a significant problem. It has consequences in the form of prenatal exposure of the fetus to alcohol and in the postnatal perspective – it contributes to the development of a number of alcohol-related disorders in children. The article focuses on presenting the emerging spectrum of fetal alcohol-related disorders in the context of the processes of social inclusion and exclusion of people affected by this problem.Zjawisko spożywania alkoholu wpisane jest od wieków w specyfikę funkcjonowania człowieka w wielu różnych społecznościach. Jego niepożądane społecznie skutki analizowane były przez wielu badaczy. Znaczącym problemem jest zjawisko jego spożywania przez kobiety, a w szczególności przez kobiety w ciąży. Fakt ten niesie ze sobą skutki w postaci prenatalnej ekspozycji płodu na alkohol i w perspektywie postnatalnej przyczynia się do powstania szeregu poalkoholowych zaburzeń u dzieci. Get PDFThe aim of this article is to present the significance of documentary films addressing the issue of disability in the context of their use in the education of students in the direction of social work. The issue of disability, which has remained an important social issue in the world for many years, is often addressed in the category of leading film topic, including documentary. In this view, it is possible to look at the situation of an individual experiencing limitations of fitness in the natural context of his daily life. It is often accompanied by an insight into the surroundings of the hero of this authentic image, and thus a look through a wider prism at his family, friends, and neighbours. The theme of disability in the documentary can be considered as an inspiring and valuable material for didactics, and especially in the context of the education of persons predisposed to perform auxiliary professions, for example students in the direction of social work. The text presents an analysis of exemplary documentary films, and then the potential possibilities of their use during teaching classes are proposed.Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie znaczenia filmów dokumentalnych poruszających tematykę niepełnosprawności w kontekście ich wykorzystywania w ramach kształcenia studentów kierunku praca socjalna. Problematyka niepełnosprawności często podejmowana jest w kategorii przewodniego tematu filmu, w tym również dokumentalnego. W takim ujęciu możliwe jest spojrzenie na sytuację jednostki, doświadczającej ograniczeń sprawności w naturalnym kontekście jej codziennego życia. Nierzadko towarzyszy temu również wgląd w otoczenie bohatera tego autentycznego obrazu, a więc spojrzenie przez szerszy pryzmat na jego rodzinę, przyjaciół, sąsiadów. Wątek niepełno-sprawności w filmie dokumentalnym można rozpatrywać jako inspirujący i cenny materiał dla dydaktyki, a szczególnie w kontekście kształcenia osób predestynujących do wykonywania zawodów pomocowych, na przykład studentów kierunku praca socjalna. GENDER IDENTITY IN TRANSLATION: THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF TRANSPOSING NON-BINARY CHARACTERS INTO ROMANIAN
Get PDFThe created world of Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series depicts a future society where gender identity has undergone a process of uniformisation, resulting in the erasure of gendered language. The novels take the form of a confessional (a recounting of the events of the past) which are published in the future society without the express consent of the other characters taking part in the depicted course of events. The narrator, in a motivated show of re bellion against their society’s current ideology (discussed both at the beginning of the series and as they progress with the narration), reinscribes gendered pronouns onto the unknowing characters; however, this is done on an arbitrary basis, which the narrator does not always discuss. The present paper aims to emphasize the growing number of LGBT+ novels published and the impossibility of transposing them into Romanian due to the lack of a gender-neutral pronoun that does not default to the masculine. The paper analyses Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer in order to specify the various nuances that would be lost in the cultural adaptation and translation of the novel into Romanian, a translation which has yet to occur, given the complexity and constraints of the novel and the depicted ideology behind it.
Grotesquely Gothic Textual Overflow: Depictions of Generational Female Trauma in Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s "Mexican Gothic"
Get PDFThis article explores the connection between literary trauma theory and the generational female trauma in Silvia Moreno-Garcia\u27s contemporary novel, Mexican Gothic. This novel, clearly situated in the Female Gothic tradition, expands on common Gothic tropes, and it is argued it presents the Female Gothic genre as one that inherently deals with the trauma of women forced into an oppressive silencing by patriarchal powers. Through the characters of Agnes and Ruth, this paper argues trauma is portrayed as sensory, textual overflow, drawing on the concept from trauma theorist Joshua Pederson. Through sensory, highly detailed and grotesque depictions of women\u27s experiences of trauma, Mexican Gothic demonstrates the power of the Female Gothic genre to explicate trauma while emphasizing the grotesque oppression women face at the hands of manipulative patriarchal power, both in and out of fiction
