Analysis of Information Technology Adoption in Polish Agriculture
This study explores the adoption of information technology (IT) in Polish agriculture, focusing on its impact on efficiency, profitability, and farmers’ perceptions of associated costs. A survey conducted among 106 farmers from all Polish provinces assessed their use of IT tools, including farm management software and automatic machine navigation systems. The results highlight the varying degrees of IT adoption based on farm size, with larger farms demonstrating greater integration of these technologies. Farmers’ views on the cost-effectiveness of these systems were mixed, indicating room for improvement in affordability and functionality. The study underscores the potential of IT to enhance agricultural practices but notes the barriers faced by smaller farms in adopting such technologies
Autonomous Navigation for Unmanned Ground Vehicles in Unstructured Terrain
The problem of autonomous navigation for Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) in unstructured environments is both challenging and crucial for their deployment in real-world applications. Perception is important, as it provides the necessary information for terrain traversability and environmental awareness. In this article, the developed manned-unmanned vehicle designed to carry out autonomous missions in unstructured terrain is presented, along with the system requirements essential for such operations. Challenges related to environmental perception and navigation in unstructured environments are discussed. Achievements in developing AI models capable of interpreting sensor data are highlighted, demonstrating significant progress in the field of autonomous navigation. However, several gaps remain, particularly in the areas of sensor fusion, real-time decision-making, and adaptability to highly dynamic conditions. Development in the field of autonomous systems allows for a wider expansion of the potential applications ofUGVs in various fields, including disaster response, environmental monitoring, and exploration of hazardous environments
Daggers, dirks, and short swords in the cultural-historical property repository of the Administration of Cultural Heritage of Kerman. An Introduction
In this paper, the authors have examined 95 unprovenanced bladed weapons that are stored in the cultural-historical property repository of the Administration of Cultural Heritage of Kerman Province (Southeastern Iran). The illegal possessors claimed to have discovered the artefacts via illegal diggings in the Kerman Province. The entire collection consists of double edged items made out of bronze. Most of the examined items were probably designed for combat and are comparable to findings within current borders of Iran. Most of the artefacts have very simple designs and probably date from the 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. Almost all handled examples were cast in one piece and can be dated to 1450-c. 1000 BCE. Only one item was made by the “casting on” technique which probably dates to the 9th-8th centuries BCEIn this paper, the authors have examined 95 unprovenanced bladed weapons that are stored in the cultural-historical property repository of the Administration of Cultural Heritage of Kerman Province (Southeastern Iran). Interests behind the Development of the Hungarian Railway Network During the Habsburg Empire Period Up to 1867
The first steam-powered public railway in the Kingdom of Hungary, then part of the Habsburg Empire, was inaugurated in 1846. Initially connecting Pest and Vác, this line was extended to link the capitals of Vienna and Pest by 1850. The development of this railway was significantly shaped by Austrian imperial objectives, with the primary driving forces rooted in the Empire’s political, economic, and social interests, despite the line being constructed by a private company pursuing its own economic goals. Over time, the motivations behind Hungarian railway development grew increasingly complex, influenced not only by the Empire’s political, economic, and military interests but also by individual ambitions (political and personal prestige) and a range of territorial factors (imperial/Austrian, national/state, regional, county, and local). In the years leading up to the Austro‒Hungarian Compromise of 1867, regional, county, and local interests began to influence the construction and routing of Hungarian railway lines significantly, despite the initial dominance of Vienna’s centralization policies‒particularly after the imperial economic crisis of 1854. However, imperial/Austrian interests, especially military considerations, remained predominant throughout this period, becoming increasinglyinfluential from the 1850s onward. This study seeks to categorize the various interests that shaped the development of Hungarian railway lines leading up to the Compromise and to present the partial development of the Kingdom of Hungary’s main fixed-track railway network. The findings suggest that these developments resulted from a complex interplay of multiple factors rather than any single dominant interest. Given the lack of existing theoretical frameworks from this perspective, the analysis is grounded in Hungarian and Austrian literature, supported by contemporary press sources, relevant published documents, and archival materials
‘Location Dislocation’ in Salman Rushdie’s Novel Quichotte
This article explores how the concept of the Third Space might be applied to discuss the motif of the American road trip in Salman Rushdie’s novel Quichotte (2019). The term Third Space is used by multiple authors within the theory of post-colonialism with reference to the concept of liminal space; the works of post-colonial theorists Edward Soja and Homi Bhabha are taken as a theoretical basis of this work. In Salman Rushdie’s novel Quichotte, two protagonists of the story Quichotte and Sancho embark on a road trip across America in search of the Beloved. The internal struggles of the characters, their encounters of hostile communities along the way and searching for ways to adjust to the world are discusssed through a lens of spatio-temporal transformations they undergo while travelling
Ostatnie pobory, czyli stosunek kadry zawodowej Ludowego Wojska Polskiego do alumnów Wyższych Seminariów Duchownych odbywających zasadniczą służbę wojskową w okresie PRL w końcu lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Zarys problematyki
This article is an attempt to analyse the attitude of professional staff towards alumni doing basicmilitary service during the communist period in the late 1970s. It describes the hardships of soldier’s life, the application of military regulations, which in the case of seminarians were exceptionally strict. At the same time, it presents the methods that were used against the alumni in order to lead them to withdraw from the seminary. Above all, the author presents the massive propaganda conducted mainly by political officers of the Polish People’s Army directed against the Catholic Church in Poland. At the same time, he presents the involvement in this process of the commanding staff, whose methods of dealing with the alumni may have led to a weakening of the authority of the army in society.Artykuł jest próbą analizy stosunku kadry zawodowej do alumnów odbywających zasadniczą służbę wojskową w okresie PRL w końcu lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Opisuje trudy żołnierskiego życia, stosowanie regulaminów wojskowych, które w przypadku kleryków były wyjątkowo surowe. Jednocześnie przedstawia metody, jakie stosowano wobec alumnów, aby doprowadzić do ich wystąpienia z seminarium. Autor prezentuje przede wszystkim zmasowaną propagandę prowadzoną głównie przez oficerów politycznych LWP, kierowaną przeciw Kościołowi katolickiemu w Polsce. Jednocześnie przedstawia zaangażowanie w ten proces kadry dowódczej, której metody postępowania wobec alumnów mogły doprowadzić do osłabienia autorytetu wojska w społeczeństwie
