Addressing Urban Inequality Through Innovative Social Housing Strategies: A Comparative Analysis of Approaches and Outcomes

    No full text
This article presents a detailed examination of how social housing is approached in three major South African cities: Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. These cities serve as unique examples, each dealing with different issues and finding creative solutions. The study conducts this comparative analysis through document analysis namely the City of Johannesburg Housing Policy, Durban Metropolitan Housing Strategy, the City of Cape Town Integrated Development Plan, and the National Department of Human Settlements Annual Report. Community involvement, and sustainable practices related to social housing emerge as critical components in all these cities seeking to achieve adequate urban development through social housing. In Johannesburg, there is a strong focus on addressing the ongoing effects of apartheid through „restorative housing” and encouraging diverse communities through mixed-income housing. Durban stands out for its „cultural inclusivity” approach, which views diversity as an advantage in urban development. In Cape Town, they have adopted „ecological urbanism” to harmonize nature and urban life, overcoming geographical challenges. One common theme in these cities is the involvement of the community, empowering residents to be active participants in shaping their living spaces. Sustainability is not just about the environment but also about connecting housing projects with economic and social systems. This analysis highlights how social housing can transform urban areas into fair, inclusive, and sustainable places, not only in South Africa but worldwide

Covid-19 had its critical effects on each aspect of life, especially on tourism sector. Both domestic and international tourism have suffered from the consequences to confront this pandemic, but the recovery and the adoption was not at the same level. This study aimed to give a closer view of both domestic and international tourism performance regarding covid-19 based on touristic accommodation facilities data of Hungary. The SPSS program was adopted to conduct the necessary statistical analysis, where the paired Student\u27s t test was applied to analyse the data. The P-values of the test were significant for almost all of hypotheses. This study revealed that: (i) Covid had its bad effect on tourism, but it has changed tourists’ preferences; (ii) Domestic tourism had a better performance comparing with the international tourism except the revenue before and after covid era; and (iii) both, domestic and international tourism still need more time to recover and return to the previous situation

Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam in the Context of Global Integration

    No full text
This study is conducted to find out the determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam, especially focusing on the roles of economic growth, financial stability, trade openness, debt, inflation, and impacts of FTAs. We apply a multiple linear regression model and analyze these enablers\u27 impacts on FDI inflows. Further, we try to analyze the impacts that Vietnam\u27s becoming a part of the WTO and different FTAs has, in particular: ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), Vietnam-Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA), and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), by using them as the dummies in our model. Moreover, the study outlines the comparison of models with and without the dummy variables in order to have a clearly look at global integration when it comes to attracting FDI. Each dummy variable is also considered both simultaneously and separately, so as to clarify its role. The results highlight that lagged FDI, infrastructure, and natural resources are significant positive factors for FDI, whereas inflation has a negative impact. Trade openness and market size, however, do not show consistent significance. The WTO\u27s significance, particularly in models with FTAs, underscores the importance of global trade norms and reduced trade barriers in attracting FDI.This study is conducted to find out the determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam, especially focusing on the roles of economic growth, financial stability, trade openness, debt, inflation, and impacts of FTAs. The Impact of Foreign Employment in Szeklerland in the Early 2020’s

In the course of the research, the effects of foreign guest work, both in the narrower and broader sense, in Csíkszentkirály and its surroundings are investigated. The subject is very topical and of great importance today, but despite this, little information is available. This phenomenon has grown into a rapidly developing and important industry with a very significant impact on the population, which is why we believe it is important to record, monitor and analyse data on it. The reasons for going abroad are mostly economic, with the main objective being to earn as much income as possible. However, we suspect (and this is confirmed in the paper) that labour migration abroad has a significant and often surprising economic, emotional and social impact on the daily life of an individual, a family or a community. This impact may be direct or even indirect, but it affects the financial, emotional, social and community situation of an individual or community. It was also essential to examine whether working abroad is, in fact, essential to achieving a decent standard of living. After examining the results, it seems that, although not easy and much more challenging, working at home can help achieve these goals, but going abroad offers a much simpler, shorter and more spectacular result.

Mapping the Scholarly Landscape: A Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Kenya\u27s Dairy Sector and its Alignment with Sustainable Development Goal

    No full text
Kenya is an agriculture-based economy and dairy farming is a major contributor to the national revenue. As production intensifies, the negative effect on the climate becomes more evident. Therefore, there is a need to align production with sustainable development goals. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to map the scholarly research landscape on Kenya\u27s dairy sector and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 33 studies published from 2015 were obtained from the SCOPUS and analysed using R (Bibliometrix package) and VoS Viewer (1.6.19). The research established that since the enactment and ratification of the SDGs, there has been a marked increase in research on dairy farming sustainability in Kenya, though with significant yearly variations. Further, the study noted the predominance of small-scale dairy farming in Kenya, where the focus has traditionally been on increasing milk production, often at the expense of sustainable practices. Agriculture and sustainable intensification are the central themes reflecting efforts to balance increased food production and long-term sustainability, particularly in the face of climate change impacts such as droughts and heavy rainfall. The study underscores the critical role of both global and local collaborations in advancing research and addressing the sustainability challenges in Kenya’s dairy sector. The findings advocate for a multidisciplinary research approach to achieve a balanced emphasis on productivity and environmental sustainability, ensuring the sector\u27s alignment with the SDGs for long-term growth and resilience

Components of the Earth System – atmosphere, oceans, land and ice cover, biosphere – interact with each otheron several different scales. This paper presents the mostimportant recent environmental changes caused mainlyby anthropogenic activity. The key role of the water cycleis emphasized on both global and regional scales, having dominant effects on the state of the environment and any human activities.

A tájépítészeti tervezés elmúlt negyven éve : (1984–2024)

The chapter discusses the distinct branches of landscape architecture: landscape design of gardens, parks, urban open spaces, design of registered historic gardens, landscape planning, planning of local green space networks and spatial planning. Landscape design and planning, like architecture, responds to and is fundamentally dependent on the needs and expectations of society. It is therefore important to outline the main social processes of the last forty years. The chapter focuses on the landscape projects realised rather than on the plans, since it is the result of the design process, the completed project, that is most important. It tells us almost everything, about the times in which it was conceived and in which the designer, the client, the constructor and the users existed. The results and social impact of landscape design can be seen mainly in the completed work. There is usually a narrow professional interest in the plans that remain in the drawer. The results of landscape planning and green space planning at local level and spatial planning are only visible many years later, making it more difficult to follow the social impact. Therefore, in the case of landscape planning and green space planning at local and regional level, the chapter is limited to outlining only the trends over four decades.A fejezet a tájépítészeti tervezés egymástól jól elkülönült ágait tárgyalja: a szabadterek (kertek, parkok, városi terek), kertépítészeti műemlékek, tájrendezés, településrendezési tervezéshez kapcsolódó zöldfelületek és a területrendezési tervezés témaköreit. Legfeljebb szűk szakmai érdeklődés kíséri figyelemmel a fiókban maradt terveket.A településrendezési és a tájrendezési tervezéshez kapcsolódó zöldfelületi tervezés és a területrendezés eredményei csak hosszú évek múlva érzékelhetők, így a társadalmi hatások is nehezebben követhetők. Ezért a településrendezéshez kapcsolódó tájépítészeti tervezéssel, a tájrendezési tervezéssel és a területrendezési tervezést illetően a fejezet mindössze a négy évtized folyamatainak felvázolására szorítkozik
