The Problematic Reception of Tango by Slawomir Mrožek in Slovenia. The article focuses on the play Tango by t he Polish playwright Sławomir Mrozek and its fate on the Slovenian stage. Although it was staged in Belgrade and Ljubljana as early as in 1965, the same year in which it was first performed in Poland, it was later relegated to the theatrical margins. It re-entered the repertory of the Ljubljanska Drama theatre as late as in 2023. This paper analyses individual productions and critical reactions, and concludes that Josip Vidmar had a significant influence on the fate of its reception.Članek se osredotoča na dramo Tango poljskega dramatika Sławomirja Mrožka in na njeno usodo na slovenskih odrih.

Monolingualism vs. bilingualism: Formants as a personal identification of Slovenian and Italian vowels – absolute values versus ratios

Since the speakers in this research differ in age, gender, emotions, physical condition, etc., the absolute values of the formants are different. Comparing the ratios between the formants shows that the values of the ratios between the formants are much more stable and comparable than the absolute values. The present paper analyses the relationships between formants F1, F2 and F3 on the basis of published formant measurements for Slovene and Italian and determines whether the relationships are constant regardless of the absolute values of the individual formants. The aim of the study was to compare the Italian and Slovenian formant relationships in monolingual and bilingual speakers. The results show, among other things, that descriptive statistical measures for stressed vowels in monolingual Italian-Slovenian speakers display a decrease in the mean value of F2/F1 from front to back vowels, with a minimum value for central and back vowels.

The Ethics of Veiling and Submission of Women in Islam The article focuses on Islamic ethics, the veiling of women in Islam, and the Western criticism of this phenomenon. It describes how Islamic ethics affect interpersonal relationships, whereby religious commandments and principles contribute to establishing orderly coexistence between people. Particular emphasis is placed on the veiling of women in the Islamic religion, where different interpretations and practices are manifested because of a complex cultural and religious framework. It analyses how the veiling of women stems from religious beliefs but, at the same time, faces diverse interpretations and understandings in different societies. The article deals with the free choice of female veiling and how it is defined and conditioned in different societies. The whole discussion raises questions about diversity, culture, gender equality, and freedom of religious choice, which are embedded in the complexity of the relationship between Islam, Western culture, and the veiling of women.Članek se osredotoča na temo islamske etike, zastiranja žensk v islamu ter zahodne kritike tega pojava.

Modalni katapulti in meje modalne logike

I explore modal “catapults,” a variety of closure principles for modal operators. Consider a proposition p that logically implies, entails, strictly implies, modally implies, materially implies, …, a proposition q. According to the appropriate catapult for a modal operator M, if Mp, then also Mq. Modal catapults play a crucial role in the logical analysis of traditional philosophical arguments, such as fatalism and incompatibilism. Additionally, standard deontic paradoxes and moral dilemmas involve a deontic modal catapult in some form. In the realm of deontic logic, I advocate for a solution grounded in actualism and counterfactuals (Jackson, Goble). In considering whether it ought to be that A we should look particularly at what would be the case, were A the case. This approach explains the failures of closure while still acknowledging its central role in modal reasoning. Modal catapults are indispensable to the logic of modalities, but they also delineate the boundaries of this approach.

Tematika NOB v mladinski književnosti Branke Jurca: ob 110. obletnici rojstva Branke Jurca

The Theme of the National Liberation War in Branka Jurca\u27s youth literature : on the 110th anniversary of the birth of Branka Jurca. This paper presents the part of Branka Jurca’s literary oeuvre for young people which thematises the national liberation struggle. The children’s literary characters fall into two groups: the first group includes children who grow up during the war and are not idealised, and the second group includes post-war children who know the national liberation struggle only through narratives and experience it as a fairy tale

Od Girl, Woman, Other do Dekle, ženska, druga_i: spolno nevtralni jezik in literarni prevod

FROM GIRL, WOMAN, OTHER TO DEKLE, ŽENSKA, DRUGA_I: GENDER-NEUTRAL LANGUAGE AND LITERARY TRANSLATION. Linguistic expressions of gender, gender perceptions and identities change along with society; but while there is an international tendency towards developing gender-inclusive/gender neutral as well as nonbinary langu-age, both rhythms of change and grammatical possibilities differ from language to language. Slovenian is a highly-gendered language where cur-rent best gender-neutral practices are as yet very experimental and not generally known, as well as more complex and visible than their English counterpart, the singular »they«. Still, literary translators can’t wait for these linguistic means to become generally established before engaging with contemporary texts including and exploring this aspect of language and/or texts by non-binary authors. After outlining the currently-available means and strategies for gender- -neutral language in Slovenian, including recommendations by relevant advocacy groups and organisations as well as the few linguists who have written on the subject, the paper presents the author’s own process of sha-ping the linguistic depiction of a non-binary character in the Slovenian translation of Bernardine Evaristo’s novel Girl, Woman, Other. Dilemmas and challenges are pointed out (such as the higher visibiliy of gender-ne-utral language in the translation as compared to the original due to the use of the underscore, including in the title Dekle, ženska, druga_i) and the decisions taken are discussed and contextualised. Članek na podlagi trenutnega stanja v slovenščini (jezikovna praksa, priporočila zagovorniških organizacij, prve jezikoslovne obdelave) predstavlja proces prevodnega odločanja o jezikovni upodobitvi nebinarnega lika in nje-gove jezikovne prakse v romanu Bernardine Evaristo Dekle, ženska, druga_i

Using Social Varieties in Slovenian Language Lessons and Broader in Elementary School Education. Spreading globalization and increasing digitization have affected the linguistic situation in Slovenia regarding languages in contact – both English on the one side and languages of immigrants on the other. Consequently, modern social conditions have blurred students’ perception about situational use of either literary or non-literary varieties of language. The Curriculum for Slovene (2018) is dichotomous, as it mainly introduces students merely to what literary and non-literary language varieties are. School is a key factor in the development of Slovenian language identity, and students must be introduced to the theory of language varieties with examples for everyday speech situations. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to raise linguistic consciousness in school practices, i.e. not solely focusing on the attitude towards the literary variety, but also towards regional language types, especially to dialect and slang, which are most often used by students in everyday speech situations.V slovenskem jezikovnem prostoru vse večja globalizacija in približevanje digitalizacije vplivata na jezikovno situacijo z jeziki v stiku – tako angleščino na eni strani kot jeziki priseljencev na drugi.

    Navigating Through Habitual Residence Determination

    No full text
Within the private international law area today, habitual residence seems to be omnipresent. Almost irrespective of the context, there seems to be no more appealing connecting factor than a habitual residence. It makes one wonder what exactly is so appealing about it. Is it the ease of determining habitual residence? Or maybe legal certainty? Uniformity? Flexibility? All these questions are legitimate and require answers in order to grasp the concept, its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, this article provides an overview of the development of the concept, both in theory and in case law, with the aim of consolidating existing knowledge and seeking answers to the remaining questions. Enotnost? Prilagodljivost? Use of Botulinum Toxin for the Treatment of Headache and Facial Pain: Uporaba botulinusnega toksina za zdravljenje glavobolov in bolečin obraza

    No full text
Botulinum toxin (BT) is widely used in cosmetics and clinical practice. This literature review explores the applications of BT for the management of headaches and facial pain. The most widespread, well-reported, and ALIMS and EMA approved application for BT is in preventing chronic migraine at doses between 165–196 IU. After an incidental discovery, BT was validated through several RCTs, including most notably, the PREEMPT study. Following validation, BT was approved for use in treating chronic migraines. According to current guidelines, BT is used for the prevention of chronic migraines in patients who are resistant to other forms of therapy, such as triptans or NSAIDs. The most widely used BT injection protocol was established in the PREEMPT study and recommends 31–39 injection sites. In other primary headaches, such as tension-type headaches, there is little and confounded evidence of the efficacy of BT. However, some small-scale studies reported that BT outperformed placebo and improved pain in trigeminal autonomic headaches. BT is also used to treat chronic facial pain, most notably trigeminal neuralgias, with encouraging results in RCTs. While the primary mechanism of action of BT is the inhibition of acetylcholine release from terminal cholinergic nerves, more specific mechanisms of pain relief are yet to be elucidated, especially for migraine headaches. Our review of relevant published literature indicates that BT therapy is safe, generally well-tolerated and efficacious, and is a viable option for the management of certain primary headaches and chronic facial conditions.
