Influence of Occupational Stress, Work-Life Balance, and Gender on Organisational Commitment of Teachers in Public Secondary Schools in Imo State
This study examined the influence of occupational stress, work-life balance, and gender on organisational commitment among teachers in public secondary schools in Imo State, Nigeria. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested. A total of 183 teachers (93 males, 90 females), selected through a convenience sampling technique, participated in the study. Of these, 102 were married and 81 were single, with ages ranging from 28 to 56 years (M = 42.20, SD = 7.28). Participants completed validated measures of occupational stress, work-life balance, and organisational commitment. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, and data were analysed using three-step hierarchical multiple regression. Findings indicated that occupational stress, work-life balance, and gender did not significantly predict organisational commitment. Based on these results, it is recommended that government and school administrators explore more flexible scheduling and supportive policies to help teachers better manage work and personal responsibilities, potentially enhancing overall commitment

Development Of Pumps And Source Of Combustion In Automated Tilting Furnace
The previously used tilting crucible furnace in our foundry workshops are associated with many challenges such as lack of manpower involved in carrying the crucible pot with the tongs or the ladle alongside the with the molten metal at such a high temperature from the crucible furnace. The development and fabrication of automated tilting crucible furnace has a five main components which includes; the furnace shell, the refractory wall(lining) the burner, and its pipe, fuel tank and crucible pot, the furnace is a crucible type of furnace which melt only aluminium scraps. The furnace body is enclosed in a cylindrical metal sheet measuring 355mm diameter and 445mm high and it is lined internally with superior refractory bricks of 50mm thickness. The furnace by calculation has these specifications; circumference of 395mm and 0.395m^3, weight of 30kg. the melting process is done in a crucible rammed externally with fired clay and made from heat resistance sheet at temperature of 700*C to 800*C. An air blast from electrically powered centrifugal blower is atomized with spent engine oil of which flow down by gravity and is controlled by throttle valve in the fuel line and from the heat source when they mixed inside the combustion chamber
Design And Implementation Of Smart Iot Based Plant Irrigation System Using Nodemcu Esp8266 Microcontroller And Blynk Interface Technology
This paper presents the design and implementation of a Smart IoT-based Plant Irrigation System utilizing the NodeMCU (ESP8266) microcontroller, aimed at automating irrigation based on real-time soil moisture data. The proposed system integrates a soil moisture sensor, water pump, and Wi-Fi-enabled NodeMCU to monitor and manage irrigation processes efficiently. When the soil moisture level drops below a defined threshold, the system automatically activates the water pump, ensuring that plants receive adequate water without human intervention. The NodeMCU sends data, monitor soil moisture levels and irrigation activity through a web dashboard. The system include low-cost components, ease of deployment, and real-time remote monitoring capabilities. The use of sensor enhances the functionality by sending mobile notifications to users and enabling remote control of the pump. The system is powered via a 5V power source and is designed to be scalable and energy-efficient, making it suitable for both home gardens and small-scale agricultural applications. The methodology involves setting up the hardware with NodeMCU, DHT11 (for temperature and humidity), soil moisture sensor, relay module, and a submersible water pump. The firmware is programmed using the Arduino IDE. Moisture data is sampled at regular intervals and used to make decisions about irrigation timing and duration. The system also logs environmental parameters to support data-driven analysis of plant growth conditions. The implemented system was tested over a period of two weeks in a controlled garden environment. It successfully maintained optimal soil moisture levels by activating the water pump automatically whenever moisture fell below the 30% threshold. Data was reliably transmitted to the dashboard as expected. Notifications were received in real-time through the system. The system reduced water usage by approximately 40% compared to manual irrigation
Peer Relations and Family Structure As Predictors of Emotional Promiscuity Among Undergraduate Students
The study investigated peer relations and family structure as predictors of emotional promiscuity among undergraduate students. Ninety-five (95) undergraduate students comprising 59 females and 36 males with a mean age of 20.96 and SD of 2.15 were selected using multi-stage (cluster, simple random: by balloting and purposive) sampling techniques as participants from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. Findings shows that peer relation (popularity Stβ= .201, t= 1.214, trust Stβ= -.137, t= -.671, insightfulness Stβ= .148, t= .790 at p< .05) did not predict emotional promiscuity. Family structure Stβ= .159, t= .997 also failed to predict emotional promiscuity at p< .05. hence, future researcher should investigate other variables that can cause or bring about significant prediction of emotional promiscuity
Methodological, Ontological and Epistemological Relevance of Paradigms in Sociological Analysis and Research Development
Research paradigms are the basic belief systems or world views that guide the investigator not only in the choices of methods but in ontologically and epistemologically fundamental ways. Research generally is a process of finding out the answers to problems or the process of arriving at dependable solutions to problems through the planned and systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of data. Research methods and data form only part of the complex process of sociological research. In a research process the investigator is not only concerned with the appropriate methodology to be adopted in the consummation of the research, he also seeks the appropriate already existing theories or a set of theories to base the analysis of the research. It is these theories and their implied methodological approaches that constitute a research paradigm. The major import or primary focus of this paper, therefore, is to identify and discuss the relevance and purposes of paradigms in sociological research in relation with their methodological, ontological and epistemological implications. The study adopted the qualitative method of data collection and analysis, while the theory of knowledge formed its theoretical framework. From these analyses the following conclusions were reached: that as world views or belief systems, research paradigms enable the investigator in sociological research situate his work in its proper context; and that by knowing the specific research paradigms, the investigator will be able to determine, abinitio that it is a study in functionalism
Politics of Revenue Distributive Mechanism in Nigeria: An Evaluation of the Nigerian Federalism
The federal constitution of Nigeria was duly articulated and somewhat adopted to ameliorate the nagging issues emanating from the highly concentrated cultural cum socio-political diversity inherent among the ethnic nationalities formerly enjoying self-method of administration and religion. The British colonial authority that adumbrated the supposed unification modalities, did not out rightly downplay the consequences of this variation but applied certain measures to recognize the need to preserve traditional values in politics, administration and essentially, futuristic objectives of the concerned ethnic nationalities. Application of the principles of federalism, douses tensions in governance, politics, administration, revenue cultivation and distribution of values in the polity. We employed qualitative descriptive analysis in unravelling the abysmal socio-economic and political development which hitherto have been overwhelming the federation of Nigeria from attainment of the millennium developmental goal.
Book Review: African Philosophy, a Historic-Hermeneutical Investigation Of The Conditions Of Its Possibility
The need for this work has arisen as a result of the persistent and honest “search for an African Philosophy" “(p.1), by Black Africa, which is closely identified with and readily traced back to “the ongoing artistic and intellectual renaissance in Black Africa” (Ibid. p.1). The author of this book holds that “Philosophy is a unique cultural form” (Ibid p.1) it should not “be confused with other forms such as myth, weltanschauung and religion” (Ibid. p.1). Instead, some standards or criteria need to be fulfilled if African Philosophy is to be a reality. He buys the view that Philosophy “grows out of a cultural background and depends on it” (Ibid. p.1) and that “discovering and studying this relationship will also be the condition for the development of a Black African Philosophy” (Ibid p.1). The book, is divided into five chapters, with pages numbering up to one hundred and thirty five (135), excluding the introduction which has eight (8) pages. The contents of each of the five chapters are carefully and lucidly epitomized, such that one gets the stuff in the book without having gone through the body of the work. The introduction leaves no reader in doubt as to what conclusive argument the philosophical venture would make. In the conclusion, the reader is reassured of the lesson the work had successfully put across

The reliability of the instrument was tested through the test-retest method and the result was consistent each time. The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to the respondents and collected them on the agreed date. The data collected was analyzed through percentages and the formulated hypotheses were tested with the chi-square (X2) statistical tool. The findings revealed that job satisfaction improves employees’ performance and organizational productivity. As a result of the findings, it was recommended that organizations including the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu should ensure employees’ welfare which will boost their morale and lead to their job satisfaction so as to continue to improve their performance
Burnout and Work-Family Conflict as Predictors of Psychological Well-Being among Paramilitary Officers in Ibadan, Oyo State
This study investigated burnout and work-family conflict as predictors of psychological well-being among paramilitary officers in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey design while using purposive sampling technique to select Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers. Data were conveniently collected from 238 officers using three validated scales: Burnout Scale, Work-to Family Conflict Scale, and Psychological Well-Being Scale. Data were analysed using t-test of independent samples and multiple regression analysis. Three hypotheses were tested and accepted at a p < 0.05 level of significance. The result indicated that burnout significantly influenced psychological well-being among study participants [t (234) = 6.33, p < 0.05] such that participants who reported low burnout reported higher psychological well-being (M =128.30, SD = 13.57) than officers who reported high burnout (M = 115.67, SD= 16.91). Also, the result revealed that work-family conflict significantly influenced psychological well-being [t (234) = 5.63, p < 0.05] such that officers who reported low work-family conflict indicated higher psychological well-being (M = 129.01, SD = 15.90) compared to officers who reported high work-family conflict (M = 117.44, SD = 15.16). The result further showed that burnout and work-family conflict jointly predicted psychological well-being among officers [R2 = .57, F (2, 231) = 154.13, p < 0.05]. The study concluded that burnout and work-family conflict are good predictors of psychological well-being among the NSCDC officers in Ibadan. Therefore, the study recommended that human resource managers should put in place skills training to cope with burnout and work-family conflict among officers.
