    No full text
This study examines the effect of bank credits on the manufacturing sector output in Nigeria economy for the period 1981 to 2019 with data from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletin (2020) and World Bank Report (2020). In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the study employs Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares techniques, Error Correction Model as well as subjecting the data to various diagnostic and pre-regression tests. The results revealed that bank loans to manufacturing sector and government expenditure on economic services exhibit a direct and significant relationship with manufacturing output while lending interest rate exhibits an inverse and significant relationship with manufacturing sector output. The speed of adjustment of the manufacturing sector output to equilibrium in the event of a distortion is 51%. The recommendation of this study is the necessity for promoting bank credits to support manufacturing sector of the country while keeping lending interest rate as minimal as possible

Marketing scholars have acknowledged the pivotal role of marketing principles in facilitating relationships. To be specific, soliciting and securing electoral votes is an exchange relationship where marketing principles can be applied. This paper sought to investigate the extent of APC and PDP adoption of marketing principles in the 2016 gubernatorial elections in Edo state, Nigeria. This study adapted the Ex post facto as its research design. Primary data were obtained from political parties materials and through semi structured interview. Oral interviews were conducted for two hundred forty (240) conveniently selected respondents. This consist of forty (40) from each political party in the three (3) senatorial districts in the state. Campaign materials, manifestoes among other literature collected were content analysed and oral responses obtained from the respondents were transcribed. This study found that political parties unconsciously organize their activities around the marketing mix variables of product, place, price and promotion. Also this research reports among others vote buying, political behaviour, past and present performance of political parties as critical success factors. However, this study was unable to establish the role of incumbency in electoral victory. This paper recognized that political parties unintentionally embrace marketing tenets in managing their activities. This is evident as majority of their activities incorporates strategic marketing, services marketing and marketing research principles. This paper recommends that political parties should incorporate new product development techniques as well as master the acts of brand management in their quest for electoral success

    No full text
The low level of participation of women in both elective and appointive positions since the return of Democratic Rule in 1999 has been a source of growing concern to many Nigerians. However, concerted efforts have been made by government and non-governmental organizations to increase the level of participation of women in politics in line with the declaration made at the fourth World Conference on women in Beijing, which advocated 30% affirmative action. The National Gender Policy (NGP) of Nigeria recommended 35% affirmative action seeking more representation of women in both elective political and appointive public service positions. The under representation of women in political participation gained root due to the patriarchal practice inherent in our society, much of which were obvious from pre-colonial era till date. However, with the return of democratic governance, there has been a marginal increase in women political participation both in elective and appointive offices. The national average of women\u27s political participation in Nigeria has remained 6.7 percent in elective and appointive positions, which is far below the Global Average of 22.5 percent, Africa Regional Average of 23.4 percent and West African Sub Regional Average of 15 percent. For instance, out of the 43 recently confirmed ministerial appointments by the senate, only seven (7) are women. Of the 1,487 total available elective positions in the 2019 general elections, there were 26,137 candidates of which women were only 2,970, representing 11.36% and of this number only 62 won representing just 4.17%. Against a historical background of women political marginalization, this paper seeks to examine the level of participation of women on the Nigeria political scene since 1999 with a particular focus on their performance or lack of it in the 2019 general elections. What is responsible for their less participation or parochialism for instance, patriarchy, stigmatization, meeting schedules, low level of education, financing capability, political violence, religious and cultural barriers and how do we chart the way forward. These include a review of discriminatory practices, economic empowerment of women, support from family, fellow women, and media, equal representation in governance, and proper perception of women in politics

    No full text
A feeding trial was conducted to assess the effect of aflatoxin contaminated diet on the growth and feed utilization of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings. A combination of moldy feed and good feed was done to obtain 5 treatments: I (0% moldy feed and 100% good feed), II (25% moldy feed and 75% good feed), III (50% moldy feed and 50% good feed), IV (75% moldy feed and 25% good feed) and V (100% moldy feed and 0% good feed). The lowest specific growth rate (1.61± 0.09), protein efficiency ratio (0.11± 0.01) and feed conversion efficiency (59.1±3.90) was recorded in treatment V. The lowest survival rate (65%) was recorded in treatment III. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the specific growth rate and feed conversion efficiency of the fish fed the different diets. There was significant difference (P≤0.05) in the protein efficiency ratio and survival of the fish. Proximate composition values of fish carcass analysed indicate ash ranged between 7.64±0.58 (Treatment IV) and 7.80±0.78 (Treatment V). The highest (2.77±0.52) for crude fibre was in Treatment II. The range of crude protein variation was between 54.31±1.62 (Treatment II) and 69.13±2.03 (Treatment III). Treatment II and III moisture content were the lowest (11.23±1.03) and highest (15.78±1.01) respectively. Crude protein and ash in the fish varied significantly (P<0.05). There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the crude fibre and moisture content of the fish. In order to safe guard fish growth and health, deliberate measures should be employed to ensure fish feed protected from conditions that favours the growth of fungi

    No full text
Malnutrition is a scourging health challenge in Nigeria. Its persistence has profound negative implications to the society and the future it upholds. However to combat malnutrition, the population needs to be made aware of the nutritional composition of the locally consumed foods/diets which are usually grown, harvested and processed by the consumers themselves. Also, data on dietary intake of micronutrients in these foods including the essential trace elements needed for their vital roles in the human body metabolism, though when appropriately consumed is of indispensable value to the population. The deficiency of any of these essential trace elements has been investigated to cause adverse health effect. Hence, an appropriate measurement of dietary intake by using an adequate food data base is mandatory. This review appraises the essentiality of the trace elements, iodine, iron, cobalt, chromium, selenium, manganese, magnesium and zinc which have all been investigated to exhibit great metabolic processes in the human body system. Most importantly, there is need for Nigeria to develop a country specific food composition data base that would be detailed for commonly consumed foods from its diverse cultures

    No full text
Guidance and counselling service plays a significant role in every child development and if effectively utilized can inculcate in the youths the spirit of consciousness that promote peace, conflict resolutions and national security. Since the return of civil rule in 1999, Nigeria has witnessed unprecedented series of attacks by armed group such as Boko Haram, bandits, cattle rustler, militants, kidnappers among other. The activities of these groups has brought widespread insecurity in most community in Nigeria especially in the north leading to loss of life, properties, means of livelihood and disruption of children education and national unity. The criminal armed groups have significantly undermined the country\u27s internal security and mostly use young men as foot soldiers. It is against this backdrop that this paper examined the different causes of insecurity in Nigeria and suggested the use of guidance and counselling services in curbing insecurity in Nigeria. The concept of guidance and counselling, insecurity, and guidance services were also discussed in this paper

External Debt Overhang and Crowding Out Effect on Investment in Nigeria Economy

    No full text
This study examines the impact of debt overhang and crowding out effects hypotheses on investment in Nigeria for the period of 1981 to 2018. A three–stage least squares (3SLS) estimation technique was used after the identification condition was carried out. Simulation was also conducted on the macroeconomic model. The coefficient of the National Income (GDP) is in line with the apriori expectation and also the other explanatory variables. From the results obtained, the variables were stationary at first difference I(1). From the estimated model, all the variable became significant at the 0.05 per cent level. There was no autocorrelation in the estimated model. The simulated results indicate that 10 per cent reduction in the external debt overhang show a negligible impact on investment. When the 50 per cent reduction of external debt overhang was tested, it indicates a higher level impact of 34.18 per cent. Based on these findings, it is therefore recommended that, the government should ensure that external loans are optimally deployed into investment in order to increase the volume of export goods and our National Income so as to enable debt repayment and use the balance to increase the productive investments in the economy
