A Historical Assessment of the Economics of Aso-Ebi System among the Yoruba People of South-Western Nigeria
The term Aso-Ebi is a system commonly practised among the Yoruba people of the South-western region of Nigeria. This is a system of the same design/pattern of clothes worn during ceremonies by colleagues, family members and the community, among others. This system of buying, selling, sharing and distribution of clothes initially was restricted to family members alone. However, in contemporary times, this system has been extended to and practicable among the well-wishers and also serves as a means of identifying with family members and friends during celebrations of diverse kinds, such as religious and political affiliations, sporting and cultural activities, courtship and marriage, education, funeral and the like of such occasions that call for celebration. This system has been transformed into a means of economic gain for celebrants, organizers, and every other partaker or participant in the business and ceremony. Hence, this paper examines the economics inherent in this social identity bargaining as well as the co-modification implications of Aso-Ebi (clothes) by celebrants with a view of advocating financial sanctity and networking in such practice. Furthermore, this paper also examines the effects of Aso-Ebi System on the economy of the Yoruba people of South-Western Nigeria. In so doing, it provides more evidence to further the assertion that the economic dependency that resulted from colonialism was not an accident, but rather an intentional outcome. This article explores how current economic and social circumstances about Aso-Ebi cannot be fully understood without substantial knowledge of the past. The use of primary data generated through qualitative techniques, archival records and other secondary data to engage research issues through the lens of a historical approach to data collation and interpretation is adopted for this study. The paper concludes that the economic history of the Aso-ebi system cannot be undermined in the economic development and sustainability of the Yoruba people in the South-western Nigeria
The Impact of Social Media on Sports Marketing and Revenue
Every sports club aims to attract a large number of audience/followers, particularly during sports competitions. There are opportunities for businesses and companies to associate their brand with clubs and athletes to improve their revenue. Social media provides clubs and companies with a means to facilitate sports marketing, improve competition attendance, brand loyalty, fan engagement and Sports sponsorship. This paper reviewed relevant literature on social media\u27s impact on sports marketing, fan engagement, and club revenue. The study highlights several ideas on how clubs and athletes can leverage social media in sports marketing to enhance engagement and establish one-to-one relationships with fans. The study further highlights revenue as the main requirement for the continuity and sustainability of sports clubs and organizers. The study also reveals that social media is the perfect tool to utilize when creating relationships and marketing campaigns. It is also the ideal tool for athletes to brand themselves. While clubs and sports organizers in developed nations have long leveraged the advantages of social media to be financially independent, the situation is different in the third world to which Nigeria belongs. Government is still the major sports financer. Thus, the study recommends that Nigerian sports clubs, athletes, and administrators must make serious efforts to restore the image and standard of sports organizations to attract the attention of fans and corporate organizations. Athletes and clubs must put in place their social media platforms where they will continually establish relationships with fans and portray their images as well

The central problem which the study addressed was assessing the extent to which the N-Power programme impacted on poverty reduction in Kaduna and kano states. The objectives of the study where to examine the extent to which N-Power funding affect youth employment and poverty reduction in Gombe State. The Meta theory of Empowerment developed by Elisheva Seedam and translated by Flanze was adopted as theoretical framework for the study. The research design adopted was mixed method design by John W. Creswell and data were generated from both primary and secondary sources, with questionnaires, interviews, and observations as the instrument for primary data generation and were analyzed using both descriptive and statistical analysis/multiple regression analysis using statistical package for Social Scientist [SPSS] for the test of hypotheses. The study found that funding of N-Power programme has a significant positive effect on youth empowerment and poverty reduction in Gombe State. Consequently, it was therefore recommended that, N-Power funding should be revisited with a view to ensuring prompt payment of monthly stipends to the beneficiaries in the study state

BUREAUCRACY AND THE CRISIS OF DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA
Bureaucrats with their unique characteristics of inflexible adherence to rules in orderedhierarchical arrangements of authority pattern are designed to assist the government topropel development. In relatively “developed” polities, where social discipline andjustice or equal allow for the efficient and effective delivery of public goods and services, bureaucracy, as a system of formal control, order and predictability of publicperformance may be development serving in the sense that it creatively assist in stabilizingan enduring level of development. However, in relatively less stable or developingsocieties as Nigeria, the crisis of development with a formal bureaucratic emphasisbecomes disturbingly manifest with the concomitant effects of policy disconnect andsummersault between policy enacted and its implementation. Thus, instead ofbureaucrats fostering development, they tend to retard or slow down development inNigeria. This study examined how bureaucrats can be properly positioned to involve theindividuals in the collective decision making and their participation in the totaldevelopmental efforts. The study also examined how bureaucrats can be positioned toinvolve the individuals in qualitative movements from the acquisition of individualfreedom from the clutches of feudal institutions, putting the individuals in command overthe economy and the democratic process and towards the rigorous pursuit of collectivewelfare. Data for this study was sourced from content analysis. The study concludes that anew conception of bureaucracy is necessary and desirable. It is advocated that abureaucracy with the capacity to creatively assist government in initiating andimplementing collective decisions capable through conscious efforts of transforming theenvironment in some systematized and collectively desirable ways becomes imperative
A Quantitative Analysis of the Relative Efficiency of Monetary and Fiscal Policy in Macroeconomic Management in Nigerian Economy
The study explores the relative efficiency of monetary and fiscal policy in macroeconomic management in Nigeria. To this end, the paper using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach, examines the relative efficiency of the above macroeconomic policy tools in Nigeria between 1981 and 2020 using annual time series data. The results from the analysis revealed that few of the variable indicators at different lags were negatively signed contrary to theoretical expectation. This was not unexpected as most of the government expenditures do not translate to better output that will enhance improvement in the economic activities. Also, the results further demonstrate a direct relationship of more lagged periods of the variables implying a positive response to economic activities. In the same line of action, the results of the study show that fiscal policy rather than monetary policy exerts a greater impact on economic activities in Nigeria. The emphasis on monetary action on the part of the government has led to bigger distortion in the economy of Nigeria. The study hereby recommends a higher concentration on the use of fiscal policy particularly expansionary fiscal policy to induce the economic activities and complement it with contractionary fiscal policy when the economy is characterized by inflationary issues. The paper further added that the government should also compliment the use of fiscal policy with monetary policy where necessary
Effect of Community Effort on Economic Development in Nasarawa State, Nigeria
This study examined the effect of community effort on economic development in Nasarawa state, Nigeria. To this end, the research used data from primary sources of information. Data were collected by administering questionnaires. The sample size used in this study is 340 individuals drawn from three communities, (one community from each senatorial district Headquarter). The sample size was calculated by using Yamane (1967) formula. The study adopted ordinary least square (OLS) regression method to carry out the investigation. The data were collected from three (3) communities, one from each senatorial districts Headquarters in Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state, Nigeria. The results of the study showed that all the indicators of community efforts (educational development, health facilities, and road network) have positive impact on economic development (level of income) in communities in Nasarawa State. Therefore, it can be concluded that community efforts generally had positive impact on economic development (level of income) in communities in Nasarawa State. The study recommends that provision of more educational facilities by communities will help to develop a resilient population thereby leading to better performance of civil services in communities, and that provision of more health facilities by communities will create in-built resistance among the residents to epidemics caused by air, water, and changes in weather. Therefore, all stakeholders and hands must be on deck in the fight against illiteracy in communities so that Nasarawa state can join her members in enjoying the dividend of development experienced through education
Perceived Threat of Covid-19 and Willingness to Vaccinate amongst Wage Earners in Minna Metropolis: A Qualitative Exposition
The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic threw Nigeria into a state of social disequilibrium. The imposition of lockdowns and new safety protocols did not receive a warm welcome from the people as there were gross violations of the safety protocols. The impetus for this study emanates from the violation of health safety protocols despite the danger of Covid-19 to human life. Therefore, the study assessed the perceived threat of the disease and the willingness to vaccinate among wage earners who, being the study respondents, are highly susceptible to infection. The health belief model was used to anchor the study. In-depth interview and focus group discussions were used to collect qualitative data from thirty six daily wage earners in Minna. Results from the study show a weak threat of covid-19 to the respondents as there is little or no fear for seriousness and susceptibility to the pandemic. Furthermore, the willingness of the respondents to take up the Covid-19 vaccine was poor and marred with suspicion and mistrust. Consequently, the study recommends adoption of more pragmatic approach in handling the Covid-19 cases by the NCDC for its danger to be appreciated; proper enforcement of the covid-19 safety protocols; and adequate incorporation of relevant bodies in the fight against the pandemic
