    AUDIENCE KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE ON THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING COVID-19 VACCINATION

    The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been producing, approving, and distributing COVID-19 vaccines since early 2021. Despite this, the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to negatively impact the socioeconomic standard and healthcare systems of African countries and other parts of the world. This review seeks to document audience knowledge and attitude on the controversy surrounding Covid-19 vaccination. The problem was that Covid-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc which has created academic gap for public school and the trauma caused by the pandemic will be a major concern for all students, the disease has no permanent cure yet. Thus, some of the objectives of this study includes; to ascertain the audience knowledge and attitude on the controversy surrounding covid-19 vaccination and to evaluate the audience knowledge and attitude on the controversy surrounding covid-19 vaccination. The population of the study was 36 of Masters of Art, mass communication departmental student 2020/2021 set of UNN. Purposive sampling was utilized to pick participants for this study since it is typically the most favored method for qualitative research because it gives individuals a platform to express themselves virtually unrestrictedly. The survey research design was employed to conduct this investigation. The finding from the study revealed that vaccine uptake isthe only way to restore weak human immunity but the audiences were scared because of the after effect of taking the vaccine which is as a result of misinformation, this has led to apathy in vaccination. The study recommends that, the general public be given access to enough knowledge and reliable information regarding COVID-19 vaccines via a variety of media

    Armed conflicts within states and regions continue to lead to significant movements of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Africa. Examples include the Biafra War in Nigeria (1967-1970), Guinea-Bissau\u27s liberation struggle (1963-1973), Senegal\u27sCasamance Independence Movement, Boko haram insurgency in north east Nigeria and Banditry in north west and central Nigeria. The research focused on crisis management and humanitarian services: Analysing the impact of International Organizations in the management of the IDP camp in Durumi, Abuja. This study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative interviews with key stakeholders, camp residents, and quantitative data analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the situation. Findings showed that the displaced person are faced with challenges such as inadequate shelter, poor health care facilities, food insecurity as well as lack of adequate resources to provide basic needs of the IDP\u27s by international organisations. The study recommends that international organisations needs to develop a research-based master plan for IDP rehabilitation, considering their socio-demographic composition, preferences, and priority needs. This comprehensive plan should address their problems and offer sustainable solutions, enhancing government and international support

    Mate selection is one of the most important events in the lives of persons worldwide. This is because the process may invariably culminate into marriage which is the beginning and foundation of all social relations in the entire society. In the light of above assertion, this study examines factors that influenced mate selection among youths in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, samaru campus. The study employs quantitative techniques and administered survey questionnaires to 120 students in the campus. The finding from the study reveals that love, age, religion, parental influence, character, physical attraction and educational background significantly influenced mate selection among youths in Nigeria. Thus, the study recommend that factor of character should generally be consider first in the selection of mate among youths along with other important factors disclosed in this study. And this will result in peaceful matrimonial home and the nation at large

    Subsidy Removal and Job Performance of Academic Staff of Niger State College of Education, Minna

    Fuel subsidy removal has come with a diverse impact on the job performance of academic staff. The main objective of this study is to investigate whether there is difference between fuel subsidy removal and job performance of Academic Staff at Niger State College of Education, Minna. A survey research design was adopted on the population comprised of 47 academic staff from all the six Departments in the School of Arts and Social Sciences of the College of Education, Minna. The entire population was maintained as the sample size for the study due to the small nature of the number. A self-developed questionnaire titled ‘Subsidy Removal and Lecturers Job Performance Questionnaire (SRJPQ)’ consisting eight item statements structured on a 4-point Likert scale validated by two senior lecturers in economics department, COE, MX was used to collect data from respondents. A reliability coefficient of the instrument was obtained using Cronbach\u27s alpha at 0.82 level of significance. The data collected were analysed using inferential statistics such as weighted mean to determine the research question at 2.5 level of significance. The result reveals that there is no significant difference in the mean rating of male and female gender concerning difficulty caused by fuel subsidy removal and job performance of Academic Staff at Niger State College of Education, Minna. This is because the degree of freedom is 45 and the level of significance is 0.05.  The study concludes that lecturers condition worsened after the removal of subsidy irrespective of gender. Thus, the research recommends that the institution executives should provide viable means to motivate lecturers through service motivated incentives

    Determinants of Users’ Acceptance of Electronic Banking among Small Business Owners in Lapai Metropolis of Niger State-Nigeria

    The inconclusiveness of the existing literature underscores the need for further research to better understand the determinants of SMEs adoption of e-banking. The main objective of the study is to investigates factors influencing users’ acceptance of e-banking in Lapai metropolis, Niger State-Nigeria.  The study employed a survey research design and the population is 237 small business owners in Lapai metropolis. The sample of the study is 148 small business owners selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analysed using multiple linear regression analysis. The findings reveal that perceived ease of use and perceived accessibility have positive and significant effects on users’ acceptance of e-banking. But perceived credibility has a negative and significant effect on users’ acceptance of e-banking users’ acceptance of e-banking in Lapai metropolis, Niger State. The study concludes that SMEs accept e-banking services significantly. Based on the findings, the study recommends that policymakers and financial institutions should prioritize user-friendly interfaces and accessibility features in e-banking platforms to promote greater acceptance and usage among small business owners. Additionally, efforts should be made to enhance the credibility of e-banking systems through robust security measures and transparent communication to address concerns and build trust among users

    Attitude of Street Children towards Acquiring Basic Education in Selected Local Government Areas of Niger State, Nigeria

    This study examines the attitude of street children towards attending basic education inNiger State. The study drew 228 sample respondents from the population. Data wascollected using an attitude scale. The study\u27s findings reveal that a good number of thechildren showed interest in going to school if there is school situated in their community.Also, a substantial number agreed they would be willing to quit begging and go to school ifall their financial needs were met. The study concludes that if the government can extendits attention to the rural areas other than concentrating only on the towns and cities byproviding access to education and giving some palliatives to these street children, there is alikelihood that the majority of them would quit the street and embrace basic education. Thestudy recommends that the Niger State and local governments should create a special fundto prosecute the education of these street children. There is also the need to conduct a surveyof the street children population through a synergy by both the local and state governments.This would assist in determining where schools should be locate

    This study explores the evolution of female education within the Hambali family in Katsina, from pre-colonial times to the present. It emphasizes the cultural and religious motivations behind the family\u27s commitment to both Islamic and Western education for women. The study explores the initial reluctance and eventual acceptance of Western education during the colonial period. Adopting a historical methodology, the study utilizes primary sources such as interviews with family members, archival materials, and educational records. Secondary sources include relevant literature and previous studies on female education in Northern Nigeria. The study highlights significant milestones like the establishment of Katsina Girls Centre. The article chronicles the increasing educational achievements and professional contributions of Hambali women, reflecting a broader socio-cultural shift towards valuing female education in Northern Nigeria. The study argues that the Hambali family\u27s dedication to female education serves as a model for other families in Katsina and beyond. It showcases the transformative impact of education on women\u27s roles in society

    The Nexus between Oil Activities and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises: An Experience from Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State

    This study examines the nexus between oil activities and small and medium scale enterprises with particular reference to Eket Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom State. Since the discovery of oil in Nigeria particularly in the Niger Delta, the region has been facing high rate of deforestation, gas flaring, aquatic life disturbance, air pollution and other associated problems. Petroleum discovery no doubt became a predominant source of Nigeria’s revenue and foreign exchange. It has also been playing a dominant role and occupies a strategic position in the small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SMEs). Study research design was adopted which involves the use of questionnaires, in-debt oral interview and focus group discussion. The study also adopted industrial relations theory, an ideology which binds the industrial relations system together and the body of rules created to govern actors at the work place and work community.Using Taro Yamanne formular, the study made use of 352 sample size out of 198,168 people from the three local government areas of Eket Senatorial District. Findings of this study revealed that oil activities impacted positively and adversely on the small and medium scale enterprises within which oil wells are exploited. The study recommended that government at all levels should as a matter of priority endeavor to effectively implement and enforce existing laws to control issues of environmental problems by putting necessary environmental enforcement structures in place to curb the spate of environmental pollution in Nigeria

    THE ROLE OF THE NATIONAL DIRECTORATE OF EMPLOYMENT IN CURBING UNEMPLOYMENT IN ENUGU STATE 2012 - 2022

    The study examined the role of the national directorate of employment in curbing unemployment in Nigeria with particular reference to Enugu State within the time frame of 2012 to 2022. The objectives of the study were to examine if the National Directorate of Employment (NDC) has wellarticulated programmes able to curd unemployment rate in Enugu State; ascertain if the NDE is able to maintain data bank on employment in view of reducing the rate of unemployment in Enugu State; investigate if there exist any collaboration between NDE and the Bank of Industry (BIO) in a bid to curbing the rate of unemployment in Enugu State; examine the challenges facing the NDE in its bid to curb the unemployment rate in Enugu State; and proffer viable recommendations to the challenges facing NDE in cubing unemployment in Enugu State. This study adopted the survey research design. The population of the study include the total number of persons living of Enugu state which according to the National Population Commission (2006) is 3,233,366, which comprises both officials of NDE and beneficiaries of NDE programmes and schemes. From the 17 local government areas in Enugu state 20 beneficiaries of NDE programmes was selected as sampled respondents making a total of 340 while 20 staff (senior and junior staff) was also selected from the NDE, Enugu State, making the study sample size to be 360. The method of data analysis used for the purpose of this study was the simple percentage (%) and the Pearson\u27s Correlation Coefficient. The study discovered amongst others that there is a significant relationship between the NDE programmes and unemployment rate in Enugu State. It was also revealed by the study findings that there exist a positive significant relationship between NDE data bank on employment and reduction in the rate of unemployment in Enugu State. Thus, based on the aforementioned findings the following recommendations amongst others were given; NDE should imbibe the culture of maintaining an up to data repository on unemployment and NDE should engage in rigorous public sensitization of its plans and programs
