Cronbach Alpha coefficient of reliability was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and Pearson Moment Correlation (PPMC). The results revealed that there exists significance relationship between orientation, information counselling and referral services and academic achievement of senior secondary school students of public schools in Kwara state with r=.026* for orientation service, r=.015* for information service, r=.036* for counselling service and r=.035* for referral service respectively. Based on the findings, it was recommended that guidance and counselling programmes should be strengthened in order to improve the academic achievement of secondary school students in public schools of Kwara state. No full text
Development has phases and occurs not just through putting and pushing necessary policies and programmes. The agricultural value chains as a Century programme aims to rebrand farmers\u27 access to the markets and resources they need to produce and sell their crops at a higher price. This helps to increase their income, which can then be used to improve their living conditions and reduce poverty. On this note, the study investigated the impact of the agricultural value chains on poverty reduction in Nigeria from 1990 to 2022. The study employed the Autoregressive Distributive Lag model (ARDL). The empirical findings revealed that the agricultural value chains have inversely impacted poverty reduction in Nigeria in the short and long run. As a stop-gap measure, the government should promote agricultural value chain development to achieve organisational and institutional innovations that will empower people. Providing more inputs, technical training, and financial service to the farmers to increase the production outlet should be encouraged

    No full text
This study examines the sustainability of pension fund managers in emerging economy, specifically focusing on data from Nigeria\u27s National Pension Commission. A mixed-methods approach is utilized, combining secondary data analysis with primary data collected through a survey questionnaire distributed to stakeholders within the pension industry. Descriptive statistics and an Independent Samples T-Test are used to analyze the data, and ARDL regression is employed to test the research hypotheses. The findings indicate that higher costs in areas unrelated to pensions result in lower benefit payouts in both the short and long term. Additionally, administrative costs incurred by pension fund managers have a positive and statistically significant relationship with benefits paid. Several factors, including investments in federal government securities, total contributions to pension funds, and inflation, contribute to increased investment income. The survey responses from industry stakeholders highlight various obstacles that hinder the long-term sustainability of pension fund managers\u27 performance. These barriers include insufficient skills, a lack of innovation, and inadequate processes. However, the respondents also recognize the importance of good governance, operational efficiency, and effective planning and management in sustaining the performance of pension funds. Based on the findings, the study recommends that pension fund managers diversify their investment portfolios by including federal bonds and other securities. Furthermore, they should focus on developing skills, improving processes, and fostering innovative solutions to overcome the barriers to performance

Successive governments in Nigeria had invested billions of dollars in different projects especially road infrastructural projects to develop the economy and improve the living conditions of Nigerians. However, it is disheartening to see that very few of these road projects have achieved the desired objectives despite all efforts made by succeeding administrations in the country. In the current fourth republic, Nigeria\u27s landscape is littered with thousands of abandoned projects, especially road projects which are either uncompleted or abandoned due to inability of succeeding administrations to learn from the past project failures. This ugly trend is making several road projects not able to deliver their intended goals for which they were initiated. The study examines the causes and negative effects of road project abandonments on the economy. The study was conducted using qualitative research based content analysis method and data were generated from personal interviews, observatory works and from the archival records. Findings of the study revealed several causative factors for road project abandonment especially the abandoned Kishi-Kaima road project which is selected as case study.Such factors includes inadequate funding, inflationary trend, variations of the project costs, political factor occasioned by change of government and due process problem among others. The study concluded by recommending workable solutions for the completion of the abandoned road project such as strict application of Public Procurement Act and prompt payment of valuation certificates due to contractors to facilitate seamless execution of works, thereby reducing and eliminating the menace of road project abandonment in Nigeria
