    EFICACIA DE INTERVENCIÓN ENFERMERA EN ADHERENCIA TERAPÉUTICA DEL SEGUIMIENTO MÉDICO CONDUCTUAL EN PERSONAS CON HIPERTENSIÓN SISTÉMICA

    Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia de intervención educativa en adherencia terapêutica (AT) enfocada al seguimento médico conductual (SMC) para la regulación emocional (RE) del sistema conductual (SC) en personas con hipertensión arterial sistémica (HAS) de comunidades rurales de Taxco, México em 2022.   Marco Teórico: La intervención de enfermería en el SMC es esencial en el desarrollo de programas de salud, ejerce acciones prioritarias en la gestión de enfermedades crónicas, proporciona cuidados directos y progreso a los pacientes; referente teórico Dorothy E. Johnson y la regulación emocional de Goleman.   Método: Ensayo comunitário pretest-postest de intervenciones de enfermería encaminadas al SMC, estudiandose cuatro comunidades de Taxco, México, durante 2022, muestra tipo censo com n=293 personas com HAS, se utilizó la escala de AT con valores de 0-100.   Resultados y Discusión: La AT de las personas con HAS el SMC pretest en todas sus vertientes estuvo abajo de 82 hasta 60.38; con variabilidad alta; representa bajo deterioro del SC y déficit de RE de personas con HS hacia el SMC. En el postest el valor más alto AT fue de 89.9 prácticamente en el limite de AT óptima, se presentó una diferencia positiva de 6.01 com efecto pequeno de las intervenciones.   Implicaciones de la investigación: Efectividad de una intervención proactiva, cognitiva conductual de enfermería con abordaje del SMC de personas con HAS de comunidades rurales.   Originalidad/Valor: Contribucion significativa en cuidado, muestra relevancia impacto, aplicabilidad para enfermeria, instituciones y tomadores de decisiones

    Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the concept of literacy as a fundamental human right, with the aim of analysing its role in fostering equity, sustainability, and socio-economic progress while interrogating Eurocentric conceptualisations and integrating Global South perspectives.   Theoretical Framework: This research is grounded in the rights-based and development-oriented frameworks espoused by UNESCO, alongside theories of multiliteracies and translanguaging. These provide a foundation for understanding literacy's cultural, historical, and socio-economic dimensions, particularly in contexts like South Africa.   Method: The study employs a qualitative literature review approach, synthesising global frameworks, declarations, and indigenous critiques. Key texts from UNESCO, the United Nations, and scholars such as Prinsloo (1999) and Guzula (2019) were analysed to uncover themes related to literacy's evolving definitions and applications.   Results and Discussion: The findings reveal that while global frameworks prioritise literacy, their operationalised definitions often exclude culturally specific practices. Indigenous perspectives highlight the embeddedness of literacy in social and historical contexts, challenging dominant Eurocentric views. The study also underscores literacy’s role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4.   Research Implications: The study provides practical and theoretical insights for policymakers and educators by advocating for pluralistic, contextually grounded literacy frameworks. This includes addressing multilingualism, cultural integrity, and accessibility in literacy initiatives.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the discourse by critically examining literacy from a Global South perspective, offering a more inclusive understanding that challenges universalist norms. Its focus on sustainability and equity underscores its relevance in advancing education and human rights globally

    Objectives: This study examines the systemic challenges hindering agricultural policy implementation and their implications for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2, which focus on eradicating poverty and hunger.   Theoretical Framework: The study is anchored in governance theory and stakeholder engagement perspectives, emphasizing the interplay between institutional structures, policy actors, and sustainable agricultural outcomes.   Method: The study employs a qualitative research methodoldy. The study utilises pieces of literature and in-depth interview as its mode of data collection.   Results and Discussion: The findings reveal key barriers to effective agricultural policy implementation, including political interference, inadequate stakeholder engagement, and weak governance structures. These challenges contribute to inefficiencies in agricultural interventions, limiting progress toward food security and poverty alleviation.   Research Implications: The study introduces the Sustainable Agriculture and Governance Integration Model (SAGIM), a conceptual framework synthesizing human capital development, inclusive stakeholder practices, and robust governance mechanisms. SAGIM provides actionable pathways for policymakers to address systemic inefficiencies, strengthen institutional capacity, and enhance agricultural policy outcomes.   Originality/Value: This research contributes to global discussions on sustainable development by offering a governance-driven approach to agricultural policy implementation. It highlights the need for capacity-building initiatives, participatory governance models, and targeted stakeholder collaboration to promote sustainable agricultural outcomes in developing countries

    RESEARCHER DEVELOPMENT AT A PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN SOUTH AFRICA: EXPERIENCES OF NEW RESEARCHERS

    Objective: This study aims to explore how researchers at a Private Higher Education Institution (PHEI) in South Africa have experienced researcher development. Understanding researcher development is crucial for a PHEI aiming to increase its research output. It is essential to grasp the experiences of researchers tasked with this goal, especially since some researchers at the PHEI are incorporating research into their roles for the first time (‘new researchers’). The study is underpinned by Evans' Componential Structure to examine Researcher Development among new researchers at the PHEI.   Method: Employing qualitative research with a phenomenological design, individual, semi-structured, online interviews were conducted with eight 'new researchers'. Data analysis followed Braun and Clarke’s (2013) six-step thematic analysis, guided by Evans’ (2011) Componential Structure of Researcher Development.   Results and Discussion: The study confirmed the validity of Evans' model as behavioural, attitudinal, and intellectual changes were observed. In addition, the findings revealed several enablers and barriers to Researcher Development in the PHEI. Enablers included dedicated research time, skills development opportunities, supportive leadership, peer collaboration and a research-supportive culture. On the other hand, barriers comprised ethical clearance complexities, administrative bottlenecks, interrupted research time, and a fledgling research culture.   Research Implications: Understanding new researchers' perspectives on Researcher Development can inform the development of developmental strategies. Furthermore, it provides institutional leadership within the PHEI with valuable insights into how Researcher Development occurs within their context. This can aid in the negotiating and catering to the individual needs of new researchers with the PHEI

    AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE VIABILITY OF BLOCKCHAIN INTEGRATION TO FACILITATE AN AFRICAN CURRENCY UNION

    Objectives: The objective of this study is to conduct a thought-experiment on a pan-African cryptocurrency union. It assesses the feasibility and potential impact by analysing related economic data and cryptocurrency usage statistics. It proposes a novel model for economic valuation for the hypothetical cryptocurrency, leveraging Metcalfe's Law and Zipf's Law. The methodology adopted for this study primarily comprises correlation and regression analyses over a 10-year timespan. Key findings suggest significant economic benefits, including enhanced financial inclusion and reduced trade barriers. Policy implications and limitations are presented, providing a comprehensive framework for future research and practical implementation.   Theoretical Framework: The theoretical underpinnings of this study include a pan-African cryptocurrency ecosystem (cross-border regulation for trust, integration, collaboration, interopearbility and articulation. A framework composed from Metacalfe’s Law and Fiptz’s Law for economic valuation is a central theme.   Method: The methodology is essentially a literature review to buttress a thought-experiment on the feasibility and efficacy of a hypothetical pan-African cryptocurrency union. A quantitative feasibility analysis is presented for the economic valuation, using a hybrid method.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed that despite the need for major antecedents in regulations, infrastructure, and digital-cryptocurrency enculturation, the incipient cross-border formal structures for a pan-African cryptocurrency union already exist. The rudimentary tool provided for economic valuation provides a point-of-departure for evolving the ecosystem.   Research Implications: This study has practical implications for the economic valuation of cryptocurrency blockchains. It also propogates research avenues into cross-border use of cryptocurrency where fiat currency poses seamless-interoperability issues.   Originality/Value: In the light of the creation of The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the ubiquity of the digital technologies, including mobile communication devices, articifial intelligence, and cryptocurrency, the foundations are being laid for further research into cryptocurrency collaboration at various tiers of a multi-national ecosystem

    Objective: This study aims to examine the parliamentary system by presenting  its concept  and highlighting  its  characteristics, in  addition to  addressing  the  formation of the ministry in the parliamentary  political  system and its competencies, as well as the composition of the parliament in  this  system and its competencies, and  finally showing  the mutual  influence  between  the legislative  and  executive  authorities  in  this  system.   Theoretical Framework: The study is based on the principle of  relative  or  flexible  separation  of  powers, especially the legislative and executive authorities, and  this  is  achieved  through cooperation  between  these two authorities, which is characterized by balance, that  is, it  is  equal cooperation, and  at the same time, it is  cooperation that does  not  cancel the  organic  separation between these two powers.   Method: The inductive analytical method as well as the historical documentary method will be used, considering that the emergence of the parliamentary system was not the result of jurisprudential theories, but rather the result of historical circumstances and customary precedents.   Results and discussion: This study reached the conclusion that the existence and sustainability of the parliamentary system depends largely on the flexible separation between the legislative and executive powers and the existence of means and tools of control between them, so that one of them cannot extend its hegemony and influence over the other, as long as each of the legislative and executive authorities has been granted a set of oversight means to influence the other authority.   Research Implications: The results of this research have a significant impact on activating the principle of separation of powers and relegating it on the ground, in addition to its contribution to the stability of government systems and constitutional law.   Originality/Value: This study is one of the most important recent works dealing with the parliamentary democratic political system, in order to help governments, understand the principle of flexible separation of powers and the independence of each One authority over the other, and its activation on the ground

    Intoduction: This paper examines the ethical implications of using AI in hologram technology, focusing on issues of privacy, consent, cultural impact, and intellectual property rights. As hologram technology becomes more advanced and accessible, it raises significant concerns regarding individual freedoms and societal welfare. Key ethical challenges include privacy violations, the unauthorized creation and use of holograms, and the potential for emotional and psychological harm. The paper advocates robust legal frameworks and ethical standards to protect human dignity and privacy rights. Additionally, it explores the consent and posthumous use of holograms, emphasizing the need for systematic consent mechanisms and ethical guidelines. The cultural and social implications of hologram technology are discussed, highlighting the potential disruption to traditional concepts of self, reality, and authenticity. Legal challenges related to intellectual property rights are also addressed. The paper proposes a collaborative approach involving businesses, policymakers, ethicists, and the public to develop and implement ethical guidelines for the responsible use of hologram technology, ensuring that its benefits are enjoyed while safeguarding individual and societal values.   Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the ethical challenges posed by the integration of artificial intelligence in hologram technology. It critically examines key concerns including privacy violations, consent—both during life and posthumously—emotional and psychological impacts, cultural sensitivities, and intellectual property rights. By highlighting the potential risks of misuse, the study underscores the urgency of developing robust ethical frameworks and regulatory safeguards. The paper aims to promote a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach that includes policymakers, technologists, ethicists, and the public to ensure responsible development and deployment of holographic technologies that uphold individual rights and societal values.   Design/methodology/approach: This paper adopts a qualitative, interdisciplinary approach to examine the ethical dimensions of AI-powered hologram technology. Drawing on academic literature, real-world use cases, and regulatory discussions, it analyzes key themes including privacy, consent, psychological impact, cultural sensitivity, and intellectual property. The study uses a conceptual framework to explore the societal consequences of emerging technologies and proposes ethical and legal safeguards. Through critical analysis and synthesis of diverse perspectives, the paper develops policy recommendations aimed at guiding responsible innovation and stakeholder engagement. This approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of the ethical landscape surrounding hologram technology.   Findings: The study finds that AI-driven hologram technology presents significant ethical risks related to privacy invasion, consent, posthumous representation, emotional harm, cultural sensitivity, and intellectual property. It reveals that the unregulated use of holograms can lead to exploitation, misinformation, and social disruption. The paper identifies a lack of legal safeguards and public awareness as key challenges. It emphasizes the necessity for ethical guidelines, transparent consent mechanisms, and collaborative governance. The findings suggest that proactive regulation and multidisciplinary dialogue are essential to ensure hologram technology is used responsibly, preserving individual dignity and aligning innovation with societal values.   Originality/value - This paper provides a novel ethical analysis of AI-powered hologram technology, a subject that has received limited academic attention despite its growing societal impact. By integrating perspectives from law, ethics, psychology, and cultural studies, the paper offers an interdisciplinary framework to address ethical dilemmas posed by holographic innovation. It highlights previously underexplored areas such as posthumous consent, emotional manipulation, and cultural disruption. The value lies in its forward-looking approach, offering actionable recommendations for policymakers, technologists, and ethicists.     Objectives: The International Law for Sustainable Development (ILSD) and the Declarations on Sustainability in Higher Education (SHE) hold significant potential to act as influential tools in achieving Global Recognition (GR), particularly in the sustainability realm. It can accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ILSD establishes a legal framework to steer and bolster global sustainability endeavors, while the SHE Declarations ensures that upcoming generations possess the necessary skills and competencies to effectively tackle global academic recognition challenges. This study aims to investigate the impact of the commitment to the ILSD and the SHE Declarations on attaining Global Recognition, especially within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) region. It aims to ascertain the approaches through which International Law for Sustainable Development can secure Global Academic Recognition. The study delves into the potential opportunities and challenges of the ILSD and the SHE Declarations in the UAE's higher education market.   Theoretical Framework: The study is grounded in the 'Principles of International Law for Sustainable Development (ISDL)' established by the United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development and various legal experts, specifically the International Law Association Committee on the Legal Aspects of Sustainable Development. Emphasizing the significance of harmonizing development and the SHE Declarations is essential in implementing the ISDL practically. The need to coordinate development and SHE is deeply embedded in international law. Examining recent progress in the ISDL and the SHE Declarations for achieving SDGs and Global Recognition. Moreover, the framework is informed by benchmarking institutional performance with specific application to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) globally accredited, that are committed to the ILSD and the SHE Declarations.   Method: A descriptive-analytical method was employed to evaluate the current International Law frameworks for Sustainable Development, the most important of the SHE Declarations and global academic recognition. A concise bibliometric analysis was conducted. The multidisciplinary Web of Science database was used as the preeminent resource, offering invaluable insights for evaluating scholarly outputs. This approach involves examining national and international legal frameworks for sustainable development, pinpointing areas of weakness, and proposing tactics for developing advanced legal standards that align with international sustainable development agreements and goals for global academic accreditation in the international higher education sector.   Results and Discussion: Abu Dhabi University has made significant strides in recent years, yet it still lags in achieving top global rankings. Our evaluation emphasizes the crucial role of commitment to the ILSD and the SHE Declarations in attaining global academic recognition. The pursuit of global academic accreditation has led universities along diverse paths in recent decades. Collaborations between governments and institutions have intensified efforts towards sustainability for safeguarding the environment. Three noteworthy outcomes have arisen from attaining a global academic recognition. Firstly, the ILSD has fostered consensus on the vital role universities play in developing sustainable solutions. Secondly, various higher education bodies have issued the SHE Declarations to promote sustainability in their operations and curricula. Lastly, a friendly competition has emerged among campus communities vying to showcase environmental stewardship through innovative initiatives and physical enhancements. Research Implications: This study enhances our understanding of how committed to the ILSD and the SHE Declarations can achieve a Global Recognition in the countries moving towards internationalization of higher education. Additionally, it illuminates approaches to addressing complex sustainable development issues in the Middle East and Asia region. Policymakers and legal experts can use this study to create a framework for aligning national higher education strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting lasting resilience in tackling sustainable development challenges.   Originality/Value: This research presents a fresh approach by merging international law reform, sustainable development, the SHE Declarations and global recognition in the specific socio-political and economic landscape of the Middle East and Asia. It offers a comprehensive viewpoint crucial for crafting sustainable development policies that are both effective and inclusive. What set this study apart are several key aspects. Firstly, it unfolds in a new framework of global recognition within the domain of International Law for Sustainable Development literature. Secondly, it analyzes the evolution of the SHE Declarations toward Global Academic Accreditation, encompassing diverse strategies for countries transitioning towards internationalizing higher education. Thirdly, it delves into global academic recognition as a consequence of a commitment to the ILSD & the SHE Declarations. Lastly, the study concentrates on the Emirati higher education market, an area where research on the ILSD& the SHE Declarations and Global Academic Accreditation remains scarce

    BUILDING PERFORMANCE SIMULATION AS EDUCATIONAL TOOL FOR ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGN

    Objective: This article explores the effectiveness of using buinding performance simulation as teaching tool to help students design more energy-efficient buildings.   Theoretical Framework: As building performance simulation tools play a critical role in carbon emissions reduction, advanced tools are already available and will continue to grow in number and complexity. A review of existing literature indicates that using these tools during the design phase can significantly enhance building’s energy efficiency and its overall performance. Therefore, equipping students—future architects—with the skills to apply building peformance simulation tools is essential for promoting sustainable design practices.   Method: This experimental study evaluates the effectiveness of building performance simulation as an instructional tool for improving building design. The participants included nine students from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), enrolled in the course Building Utilities II: Illumination, Acoustics, and Electrical Building Services during the Spring 2025 semester. The experiment was structured in three phases: Initial building design assessment and energy performance simulation; design improvements through acoustic enhancements of selected spaces, followed by a second round of energy performance simulation. The study concludes with a comparative analysis of building energy performance before and after the design improvements.   Results and Discussion: Findings indicate that integration of  building performance simulation tools into the design process leads to improvements in building energy performance and motivate students’ interactive learning.   Research Implications: Although some academic programs have already incorporated simulation tools into their curricula, this research encourages broader adoption of them as design teaching tools among institutions that have yet to do so.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the advancement of teaching methodologies in architectural design education by aligning them with the growing emphasis on energy-efficient building design
