    No full text
This study aims to characterize the film consumption habits of young people belonging to the Colombian Association of Faculties and Programs of Social Communication (AFACOM) in the Caribbean region and explore how social media influences these habits. To do so, a survey instrument with 200 participants from the different universities was used to identify the film consumption habits of young people and analyze the relationship between social media and film consumption in them. In addition, a second data analytics instrument was used to examine the advertising on Instagram and TikTok of the streaming platforms Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max and analyze how active film fans are on these social media channels. This study is relevant insofar as social media has significantly changed in the last decade, which implies that production studios must investigate where their target audience is located to develop communication strategies based on the use of multiple digital spaces to reach the largest possible audience. As a result, it was found that through these platforms, young people can interact with other users, learn opinions and recommendations about films and series, discover new productions, and stay up to date on what is trending. Although young people follow accounts dedicated to film, they prefer to refrain from actively participating in the online conversation. However, a high percentage of participants in the study said they have seen movies thanks to social media advertising. In summary, social media is an important space for film consumption and discovery, but not the only one.

    Symptomatic dissolution an eating disorders

    No full text
This article attempts to make a historical description of the stories that orbit eating disorders(ED), these being sustained by context, ethics, religion, morals, customs, beliefs among many. These discourses are often so plausible, rational, and coherent causing the diagnosis to be delayed overtime by the professionals involved and covertly the ED is hypertrophied in such away that the physical, emotional, and social impact is of such magnitude that therapeutic interventions must be incisive and decisive in order to avoid a fatal outcome. It will be seen in the course of the article how in different times and contexts the discourse with rational explanations loaded with emotions may vary, but the objective and purpose remain intact. The term symptomatic dissolution refers to the fading of the symptom in the context that unfolds going unnoticed, mimicking the environmen

Adsorptive desulfurization properties of refractory sulfur compounds onto Al2O3-Ga2O3 nanomaterials

    No full text
The impact of the synthesis method on the structural, textural, and surface properties of the Al2O3-Ga2O3 sample was investigated, and the adsorbents were evaluated for their adsorptive desulfurization properties. The incorporation of Ga atoms into the Al2O3 framework (via SGM) resulted in an increase in specific surface area and pore volume, but a decrease in average pore size. XRF analysis confirmed Ga loading, while SEM-EDS and STEM-EDS techniques revealed well-distributed elements with irregular spherical morphologies. XRD diffractograms confirmed the formation of γ-Al2O3, with a slight shift of diffraction peaks due to the presence of Ga (via SGM), suggesting that Ga atoms are part of the structure. The obtained solids exhibit values in the Freundlich equation that indicate a degree of nonlinearity in adsorption for Al2O3, while Al2O3-Ga2O3(SGM) and Al2O3-Ga2O3(IM) suggest a possible chemical process and favorable adsorption. The small KF values demonstrate weak adsorption on the adsorbents, which can be explained by sulfur-to-metal interaction, π-complexation, and non-specific interactions such as Van der Waals forces. The adsorbent showed the greatest affinity for BT and the least for DBT. The selectivity order from strongest to weakest adsorption was BT: Al2O3-Ga2O3(SGM) > Al2O3-Ga2O3(IM) > Al2O3, and DBT: Al2O3-Ga2O3(IM) > Al2O3-Ga2O3(SGM) > Al2O3

Computer data analysis: an approach to identify the effect of remittances on household consumption in Latin America (2010-2021)

    No full text
This study delves into the intricate relationship between remittances and public expenditure on household consumption in Latin America. Remittances have emerged as a vital source of foreign income for developing economies, and prior research has established their positive impact on regional economic growth. However, the reliance on this income source exposes certain vulnerabilities, necessitating a closer examination of institutional factors and recent economic contexts within the region. To conduct this analysis, data on household consumption, received remittances, and public expenditure as a percentage of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) were collected from the World Bank for 15 Latin American countries over a span of 12 years. The findings indicate significant and favorable effects of received remittances and public spending on household consumption. Notably, an increase in received remittances is expected to exert a greater influence on household consumption as a percentage of GDP in Latin American countries compared to public spending

Exergy and environmental analysis of a novel turbine inlet air cooling technique for power augmentation in a CCPP based on waste energy

    No full text
Combined cycle power plant (CCPP) play a crucial role in providing electricity worldwide. Therefore, researchers and industrialists always focus on developing and improving its performance. One of the factors that affect the performance of CCPPs is weather conditions. As weather conditions change, the air density of the environment changes, which ultimately affects the production power of the gas turbine (GT) and consequently the CCPP. To mitigate the effects of weather on CCPPs' performance, power augmentation methods are developed. In the present research, a novel technique is proposed to reduce the air temperature entering the GT by recovering waste heat from the exhaust gas. The heat content of the exhaust gas is used as the heat source of an ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC), and the produced cooling capacity is used to cool down the air entering the GT. Exergy and environmental analyses are performed to investigate the proposed method's effect on exergy efficiency, environmental factors, and sustainability index. The results indicate that by the proposed method the power production of the CCPP is increased 6.26%

Implementation of lean six sigma to improve the quality and productivity in textile sector: a case study

    No full text
The textile industry represents one of the most important economic links worldwide due to its essential generation of direct and indirect jobs, its contribution to the economy, and its ability to reinvent itself and adapt to market trends, government regulations, and the demands of interest groups. However, the textile industry is called upon to continuously improve its capacity to develop efficient, sustainable, and profitable processes in the current complex and volatile environments such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which has generated new challenges for this industry derived from confinement, restrictions trade and the slowdown of the supply chain worldwide and the subsequent reactivation of the economy. In this sense, e-commerce, the design of sustainable products and business models, the optimization of processes, and the improvement of quality have become resilience strategies to face the present and future demands of the market. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) has been proposed to address the challenge of improving productivity and quality since it allows managers to identify the factors that contribute to prolonged lead time throughout the production process. The suggested methodology follows the DMAIC cycle that began with the definition of the Project charter and the mapping of the process through a SIPOC diagram with which the manufacturing process was analyzed, and the critical variables of the process were identified. Then, the measurement system's performance was studied by analyzing essential quality and production indicators, the initial Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and capacity analysis to determine how well the process meets the requirements. Next, the potential causes that affect the performance of the process in terms of process times and quality were identified. As the next step, improvement strategies focused on reducing lead time and improving quality were designed and implemented. Subsequently, a comparative analysis was carried out with the before and after to verify the improvements’ effectiveness. Finally, a control plan was established to maintain the upgrades obtained after implementing Lean Six Sigma. The proposed framework was validated through a case study of a company in the textile sector with an export profile. The results revealed that the company's average CT went from 62.5 min to 53.1 min, while the long-term sigma level increased from -3.36 to 0.41 and a decrease in the percentage of non-conforming products of 19.43% to 12.38

Latin American initiative for lifestyle intervention to prevent cognitive decline (LatAm-FINGERS): study design and harmonization

    No full text
Introuction Latin American Initiative for Lifestyle Intervention to Prevent Cognitive Decline (LatAm-FINGERS) is the first non-pharmacological multicenter randomized clinical trial (RCT) to prevent cognitive impairment in Latin America (LA). Our aim is to present the study design and discuss the strategies used for multicultural harmonization. Methodls This 1-year RCT (working on a 1-year extension) investigates the feasibility of a multi-domain lifestyle intervention in LA and the efficacy of the intervention, primarily on cognitive function. An external harmonization process was carried out to follow the FINGER model, and an internal harmonization was performed to ensure this study was feasible and comparable across the 12 participating LA countries. Results Currently, 1549 participants have been screened, and 815 randomized. Participants are ethnically diverse (56% are Nestizo) and have high cardiovascular risk (39% have metabolic syndrome). Discussiojn LatAm-FINGERS overcame a significant challenge to combine the region's diversity into a multi-domain risk reduction intervention feasible across LA while preserving the original FINGER desig

SME modes of innovation in European catching-up countries: The impact of STI and DUI drivers on technological innovation

    Get PDF
At the intersection of SME innovation and innovation systems, this study investigates the characteristics of SME innovation modes in catching-up European countries (Southern, and Central and Eastern European) and compare it with selected among the most advanced countries in Europe as a mean to show key differences. Distinguishing between STI (Science, Technology and Innovation) and DUI (learning-by-Doing, Using and Interacting) innovation drivers, and analyzing their impact on technological innovation we study 29,834 SMEs innovation in 15 countries. We argue that the most effective SME innovation modes in catching-up countries are peculiar vis-à-vis other types of countries (e.g. advanced economies). Results show how their economic, institutional and innovation context influence SME forms of knowledge and learning. In general, catching-up countries show effective DUI-type collaborations for process innovations, while showing more limited returns than advanced countries from the STI mode of innovation.HERVAS-OLIVER, JOSE LUIS-will be generated-orcid-0000-0001-6438-5497-600Parrilli, M. New exact solutions for a generalised Burgers-Fisher equation

    Get PDF
New travelling wave solutions for a generalised Burgers-Fisher (GBF) equation are obtained. They arise from the solutions of nonlinear second-order equations that can be linearised by a generalised Sundman transformation. The reconstruction problem involves a one-parameter family of first-order equations of Chini type. Firstly we obtain a unified expression of a one-parameter family of exact solutions, few of which have been reported in the recent literature by using hitherto not interrelated procedures, such as the tanh method, the modified tanh-coth method, the Exp-function method, the first integral method, or the improved expansion method. Upon certain condition on the coefficients of the GBF equation, the procedure successes in finding all the possible travelling wave solutions, given through a single expression depending on two arbitrary parameters, and expressed in terms of the Lerch Transcendent function. Finally, the case is completely solved, classifying all the admitted travelling wave solutions into either a one-parameter family of exponential solutions, or into a two-parameter family of solutions that involve Bessel functions and modified Bessel functions. For particular subclasses of the GBF equation new families of solutions, depending on one or two arbitrary parameters and given in terms of the exponential, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions, are also reported.Mendoza, J.Muriel, C
