Development of an online optical prototype for the simultaneous analysis of defects or gels in industrially synthesized polypropylene films. Part 1: Comparison with ASTM D 3351–93 methods
Polypropylene (PP) films are crucial in various industrial applications, from packaging to medical products. However, a common challenge in PP manufacturing is the presence of gel-like defects. These gels are minor defects on the surface of the films that significantly affect the physicochemical, mechanical, and organoleptic properties of the films, compromising the quality of the final product. This first research focuses on developing and validating an in-line optical method to replace the international method ASTM D 3351–93. The main objective was to create a methodology that has the same scope and analytical performance as those reported by ASTM D 3351–93 in such a way that it can compete with it in terms of precision and accuracy, thus allowing end users to this ASTM, such as PP producers, PP marketers, PP film producers, among others internationally, can use this new methodology with necessary analytical support. This analytical methodology integrates the PP extrusion zones, the film processing stages, and the optical zone for reading and processing analytical data. Additionally, it has the advantage of working with a sample size that is even more representative of the population and has less human error since only one operator is required to carry out the test; this method also has much shorter response times. The developed prototype had 14 online stages that allowed representative quantities of samples to be taken and processed thermally and mechanically for ideal optical measurement. For the online method, a 6-point calibration curve is carried out at concentrations of 40, 10, 5, 2, 1 and 0 ppm for the gel or defect sizes of 200, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900 µm, showing excellent linearity where the correlation coefficient varied between 0.997 and 0.999, the limits of detection (LOD) varied between 0.85 and 2.61 and the limits of quantification (LOQ) ranged between 2.82 and 8.71. The statistical analyzes by ANOVA of the comparison between the ASTM D 3351–93 method and the proposed simultaneous method indicate that the p value of the evaluation of the means was 0.946, which suggests that the means are not statistically different. To complement, the Tukey test was carried out at 95 %, indicating that the methods have statistical equivalence

Application of statistical physical, DFT computation and molecular dynamics simulation for enhanced removal of crystal violet and basic fuchsin dyes utilizing biosorbent derived from residual watermelon seeds (Citrullus lanatus)
This study investigates the use of watermelon seeds (Citrullus lanatus), a plentiful and cost-effective biosorbent, for the removal of basic fuchsin (BF) and crystal violet (CV) dyes from aqueous solutions. Characterization of the biosorbent was conducted using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), while Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis revealed a specific surface area (SBET) of 54.50 m² g−1, highlighting its mesoporous structure advantageous for adsorption. Adsorption isotherms were best described by the Langmuir model, indicating monolayer adsorption with high correlation coefficients (R² values of 0.9959 for CV and 0.9978 for BF) and notable adsorption capacities of 139.2493 mg g−1 for CV and 238.80501 mg g−1 for BF. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption, driven by molecular interactions. To elucidate the adsorption mechanism at the molecular level, we employed Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, and Non-Covalent Interaction (NCI) analysis. These computational methods provided insights that closely aligned with experimental data, establishing a robust theoretical-experimental framework for understanding dye adsorption by watermelon seed biosorbent. The practical implications of our findings are significant, suggesting that watermelon seed biosorbent can be effectively scaled up for industrial effluent treatment in continuous systems. The study underscores the potential of utilizing this sustainable and economically viable biosorbent for environmental remediation, offering a promising alternative to conventional adsorbents with its high efficiency and lower sensitivity to environmental conditions such as pH and temperature

Design of photovoltaic systems in Industrial electrical systems considering power quality
This paper presents a comprehensive design methodology for photovoltaic systems (PVS) integrated into industrial electrical systems (IES), with a specific focus on preserving power quality (PQ). The 10-step methodology, ranging from initial interviews to detailed technical, energy, and economic assessments, is novel for its multi-factorial approach that combines an Excel application with ETAP software, prioritizing considerations for PQ. Evaluation across four scenarios demonstrated varying outcomes. In the worst-case technical and energy scenario, PVS installation on Point of Common Connection without PQ mitigation led to significant increases in harmonics and no reduction in energy consumption. Conversely, the best technical and energy scenario involved distributing PVS across load buses with PQ mitigation, resulting in a 5% reduction in energy consumption and 27% lower energy losses. The economic evaluation indicated a 3-year payback period in all scenarios, primarily attributed to increased costs for PQ problem mitigation equipment. It was also observed that reducing losses and energy consumption limits the economic benefits of installing PVS in IES. This methodology serves as a valuable guide for designing PVS in IES, incorporating technical, energy, economic, and PQ considerations
In a rapidly transforming market, where competitiveness is driven by the arrival of new competitors and the rise of e-commerce, understanding consumer perception of brand image and purchase intention is crucial. This research aims to analyze the correlation between brand image and purchase intention in a furniture company in Colombia. The study is based on a case study that collected quantitative data through a survey applied to 152 people in Barranquilla and its metropolitan area. The results show that the company's reputation is the highest-rated dimension of the brand image, highlighting its reliability and well-established presence in the market. However, aspects such as social commitment and the perception of high prices represent areas for improvement, as they negatively impact consumers' emotional connection with the brand and their willingness to buy. In terms of the functional dimension, while it received a positive rating, it was perceived as less relevant compared to reputation and the affective dimension. Purchase intention shows a moderate probability, though limited by the perception that the products are expensive. Consumers express a favorable willingness to buy but indicate that price and long financing terms affect their final decision. Additionally, the research reveals that brand perception is moderately influenced by reputation, but emotional and functional factors also play an important role in purchase intention. The relationship between brand image and purchase intention is positive and moderate, suggesting that improving brand perception could increase purchase intention, provided that areas such as perceived value for the offered price and social commitment are addressed. Therefore, the company must adjust its strategy, particularly regarding the high perceived prices and financing terms, to improve purchase intention. Moreover, it is recommended that future studies expand the analysis to other regions of the country to obtain a more complete and representative view of the impact of brand image in different markets and segments. It is concluded that, although reputation is a key pillar, the company must optimize its pricing strategy and strengthen its social responsibility to attract more buyers and improve its competitiveness across the country. It is essential to work on the functional dimension to enhance the perceived value of the products, ensuring that the brand remains competitive in light of new market trendsLista de tablas y figuras 9 -- Introducción 10 -- Capítulo I: Problema De Investigación 12 -- Planteamiento Del Problema 12 -- Formulación Del Interrogante De Investigación 15 -- Objetivos De La Investigación 16 -- Objetivo General 16 -- Objetivo Específicos 16 -- Justificación De La Investigación 17 -- Delimitación De La Investigación 18 -- Capítulo II: Perspectiva Teórica 18 -- Estudios Previos 18 -- Desarrollo Teórico De Conceptos Clave 27 -- Imagen De Marca 28 -- Intención De Compra 33 -- Capítulo III: Metodología Del Proyecto 42 -- Método De Investigación 42 -- Tipo De Investigación Según El Alcance 42 -- Diseño De Investigación 43 -- Población Objeto De Estudio 43 -- Muestra Seleccionada 44 -- Técnicas De Recolección De Información 45 -- Técnica De Procesamiento De Datos 46 -- Capítulo IV: Resultados De La Investigación 48 -- Caracterización De Los Participantes: 48 -- Resultados De La Percepción Frente A La Imagen De Marca De La Empresa De Muebles 51 -- Resultados De La Intención De Compra Mostrada Por El Público 60 -- Correlación Entre La Imagen De Marca E Intención De Compra Con Base En Una Empresa De Muebles 67 -- Conclusiones 71 -- Recomendaciones 73 -- Referencias 76Magíster en Gestión de MercadeoMaestrí

Effect of incorporation of recycled polypropylene plastic on mechanical properties of concrete
The use of recyclable materials in construction has become a key factor for cost reduction, the improvement of some mechanical conditions in materials, and, at the same time, has represented a major contribution to the solution of environmental problems related to pollution generated by solid waste. Polypropylene plastic has undoubtedly been one of the most studied materials to be used as a substitute for the aggregates of concrete mixtures. The main objective of this study is to analyze in a general way the impact of the addition of this material on the compression and flexion resistance of manufactured concrete samples, and in turn, to be able to verify the feasibility of adding this residue and to be used in the construction of non-structural concrete elements. To verify the hypothesis raised, mixtures with partial PP substitution were formulated in coarse and fine aggregates in a range between 20% and 70%, and these samples were subjected to compressive and flexural strength tests to assess the behavior of concrete according to the degree of substitution of the aggregate. After finishing the study, it was found that the addition of PP significantly affects the compressive strength of concrete, reducing it up to 70% in some cases, which generates a great limitation for the use of this material as a substitute in concrete mixtures used to perform structural functions. However, the flexion strength of these specimens with PP replacement shows a rather favorable behavior where it is appreciated that the resistance remains at the same level as a normal concrete sample, which would favor the application of PP replacement in the construction of non-structural elements subjected to bending stress such as pedestrian trails, urban furniture and flooring
