Cost-effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination in Colombia: a micro-simulation modelling analysis

    No full text
To model the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic including new VOCs and vaccines and estimate the cost-effectiveness of the vaccination program in Colombia. We developed a SEIARHUDSq micro-simulation model through nine exhaustive and mutually exclusive states: susceptible, exposed, symptomatic-infected, asymptomatic-infected, recovered, hospitalized general ward, Intensive Care Unit, death, and sequela. SEIARHUDSq was run with data reported up to October 21, 2021, and adjusted as a system of differential equations based on epidemiological (cases, deaths, VOCs, vaccine effectiveness, etc.) and economic (vaccines prices and administration, direct medical costs of states, etc.) inputs obtained from national sources and systematic literature reviews. DALYs and ICERs showed the burden of COVID-19 and the cost-effectiveness of the vaccination program. Two scenarios, in addition to do-nothing, were modelled for infection rates (Beta) estimated by an agnostic model: 1) Beta=0.4 and 2) Beta=0.5, for 70 and 90% of vaccination coverages. The effect of the vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Janssen) was assumed 14 after their application. Willingness-to-pay was set as one GDP per capita (US5,376).WereportedcostsinAmericandollars(15,376). We reported costs in American dollars (1US=COP3,702).InDonothingscenariotheDALYsrangesbetween2.3and2.4million.Byvaccinatingthepopulation,theburdenofdiseasedecreasedtounder2.15millionDALYs.If703,702). In Do-nothing scenario the DALYs ranges between 2.3 and 2.4 million. By vaccinating the population, the burden of disease decreased to under 2.15 million DALYs. If 70% of the population were vaccinated, direct medical and vaccination costs (including administration) would be between US2.1-2.4 billion for a Beta of 0.4-0.5, respectively (net costs). Costs would vary between US2.3and2.4billionat902.3 and 2.4 billion at 90% simulated coverage. COVID-19 vaccination in Colombia have been cost-effective for Beta=0.4 scenario (ICER 70% coverage: US995.5; ICER 90% coverage: US1,837)andforBeta=0.5(ICER901,837) and for Beta=0.5 (ICER 90% coverage: US1,792). The scenario for Beta=0,5 (ICER 70% coverage) was dominated. COVID-19 vaccination in Colombia, prioritizing elderly and population with comorbidities, has been highly cost-effective in most of the modeled scenarios

Inventory models in a sustainable supply chain: a bibliometric analysis

    No full text
This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of inventory models in a sustainable supply chain. The methodology contains reviewing previous research with a performance evaluation, network analysis, and science mapping to identify the applications, trends, and future research topics. Scientific mapping examines the periods and volumes of publications, authors, journals, countries, regions, organizations, subject areas, and citation analyses. The dataset was obtained with the Scopus database and analyzed using MS Excel and VOSviewer. The search equation identified 335 research papers, which resulted in 131 significant manuscripts on the subject after being screened and filtered. The most notable countries in developing research were Iran, India, China, the United States, Canada, Taiwan, France, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Denmark. Saha, S., Ajay, S.Y., and Baboli, A. were the most cited authors. The journals that publish the most research were Sustainability, the Journal of Cleaner Production, and the International Journal of Production Economics. Some research focuses on reducing carbon emissions and polluting agents applied in different industries in China, Brazil, India, and others. The main findings were the number of industry sectors researching this topic, increasing the number of publications, and promoting the proper use of resources within a sustainable supply chain. There are many investigations of theoretical models that have applications in real-life cases. There is also evidence of the high importance of promoting sustainable development. The emissions regulations in a green supply chain applied to agricultural products have allowed for more actions to achieve responsible production and consumption, as seen in applied research in the pulp and paper industry

Increasing the efficiency of a control system for detecting the type and amount of oil product passing through pipelines based on gamma-ray attenuation, time domain feature extraction, and artificial neural networks

    No full text
Instantaneously determining the type and amount of oil product passing through pipelines is one of the most critical operations in the oil, polymer and petrochemical industries. In this research, a detection system is proposed in order to monitor oil pipelines. The system uses a dual-energy gamma source of americium-241 and barium-133, a test pipe, and a NaI detector. This structure is implemented in the Monte Carlo N Particle (MCNP) code. It should be noted that the results of this simulation have been validated with a laboratory structure. In the test pipe, four oil products—ethylene glycol, crude oil, gasoil, and gasoline—were simulated two by two at various volume percentages. After receiving the signal from the detector, the feature extraction operation was started in order to provide suitable inputs for training the neural network. Four time characteristics—variance, fourth order moment, skewness, and kurtosis—were extracted from the received signal and used as the inputs of four Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks. The implemented neural networks were able to predict the volume ratio of each product with great accuracy. High accuracy, low cost in implementing the proposed system, and lower computational cost than previous detection methods are among the advantages of this research that increases its applicability in the oil industry. It is worth mentioning that although the presented system in this study is for monitoring of petroleum fluids, it can be easily used for other types of fluids such as polymeric fluids

    No full text
The concept of open innovation has achieved special relevance not only as an object of study in academics, but also as a framework for the development of new models of business management. This article explores the determinants of one of the dimensions of open innovation associated with the use of external knowledge for the development of business innovation processes. The analysis is carried out based on the microdata of the Development and Technological Innovation Survey EDIT 2015 - 2016 carried out by Colombia’s statistical agency (DANE). To this end, a measure that captures the degree of openness of the company in relation to the use of external sources of information for the development of innovation activities is introduced. Variables related to the technological capabilities of the company, barriers to innovation, and appropriability strategy are considered as possible determinants
